its interesting how youtube breaks the first LAW in commerce . Truth is Sovereign in Commerce ! And as the Specie is being controlled by sub conscious Primal forces. Its conscious behavior is mostly destructive and delusional.....generational indoctrinated moronic Primates .
This was filmed in 2007.....so 15 or so years ago....I wonder where these scientist and researchers are now and how the climate crisis and ice shelf breakage has affected them and their base......a follow program would be a great catch up and companion to this great documentary.......
You'd think they'd make the sensors for the seals a bit more hydrodynamic. Seems a bit tight gluing a rectangle on the head of an animal that needs to glide through the water.
@@Lex-Hawthorn you really think the complaint is about the way the seals LOOK?! The poster is clearly concerned about them not being able to swim as well and thus possibly be easier food for the killer whales
They don’t know it’s there & therefore probably won’t fit into area’s they did before so when they “hit” anything solid, it most likely will take a chunk of their skin or worse when it comes off because you know they plan on it “staying” on as long as possible & like everything else done in the name of Science, humans and animals seem to be only collateral damage any longer.
40:11 The blue in the light is actually from the light in the oxygen molecules in the frozen ice. This is your chemistry moment here in science youtube land.
Wow, for once so proud to be a South African. In our broken and pillaged country, I didn't realise we were still capable of this. Beautiful video, thank you.
Absolutely interesting and intriguing...The vastness and desolation of the Great Antarctica Continent is overwhelming...Thank you for this episode Spark...🌍🌎🌏
Breathtaking and stunning episode of one the most mysterious continent The Antarctica . The brave ventures of the scientists in all their numerous field's are constantly monitoring to see this environment. Hoping fervently that a solution for the monstrous Climate Change can be round. Thanks to Spark and its team for this great team effort.
Same stuffs been going on there for millions of years. Climate isn't changing cause of us. It's changing cause of the malenkovitch cycle and the solar min / max and clouds.
Oh My! Thanks for producing this brief documentary. Watching it brought back unforgettable memories from the years 2007/8/9/10 when I had the good fortune of flying personnel around Queen Maud Land. The BT67 is even briefly shown. To see the familiar faces of Dr. Ross Hofmeyer, Rene Boehler and Ken Pederson was a delight. Such fine dedicated men and women.
To everyone who reads this: Everything is good in this very moment. Think about that. In this second, there is nothing to worry or think about. It's the perfect time to relax and enjoy how comfortable your bed is. 😊
All people hear is negativity and propaganda--everyday. This is now the norm for Americans and we have become numb/comfortable with chaos. It is nice to know, that there is plenty of good in the world. This video is proof. Keep up the great work of tending to our marble and those who inhabit it. You are appreciated by MANY!
Ohh no stay where you at your good.i was on EXPEDITION SHIP SAILING TO ANTARTICA AND VISIT THE DIFFERENT BASES,FIRST IT WAS EXCITING BYE 3YRS I FIND IT BORING,LONELY AND DRAKE PASSAGES IT WORST OCEAN TO CROSS.
Or bring the kids and leave them there for at least one entire season lol. You could even make a contest out of it by not leaving any food. You would see who becomes a cannibal and who becomes a snack lol. My sons motto is “If it doesn’t talk it’s food”. Pretty straight forward lol. Whenever he’s around I make certain to say something every few minutes just in case he’s hungry lol
Well, I hope you know that the staff in Antarctica frequently run out of condoms, which is one of the dark facts these documentaries don't usually tell you, so "a break from the kids" might just be you moving from one hell to another.
Flat earthers: "there's an ice wall" Literally everybody: "that's crazy, there's no ice wall, that a conspiracy theory" This documentary: literally shows an ice wall
I could be a helper for sure or aka support staff... This would be amazing and would love the opportunity to experience the vastness of the unknown land.
They won't just let any joe shmoo out there, they screen candidates very carefully. You have to be the best in your field. They do a lot of psychological testing and you have to be in peak physical conditioning.
Anyone knows where does that bog baloon fall? Somewhere in the ocean or do they have a way to land in at a desired location? Sucks if they puttting all thay crap in the water.
bro and even now with the endurance22 and SA Agulhas II captained and crewed by majority black south africans, so flippen proud and happy man! What a fantastic image being put out to the world, The exploration crew put up a sign board on the spot where shackletons ship 'endurance' sank, with a message from all the crew and all the respective countries flags at the top, and the SA flag is first in line. Considering all the kak going on all over the world, we are truly the most privileged people on earth to be born in the motherland
There’s a possible 2nd outcome(?), to an ice-ramp with a bulldozer that weighed over 100,000kilos on it , collapsing with nothing but about 30’- 40’ of air then frigid saltwater below ,,, besides the operator being brutally dragged down with it? I’ve tried to imagine a scenario where he didn’t get wet. Even if there’d been a zodiac with rescue swimmers at the ready , would’ve been terrifying. But there wouldn’t have been. So…? Because 15 seconds in that water and he wouldn’t have been able to hold on to a line thrown to him. The look in his face, though …
Antarctica is cooling, not warming!! The sea ice is growing. Last winther was the coldest ever recorded, -61 mean temp. The coldest recorded place was -98 C!!
I'm not 100% technical about ships & stuff but I should think a South Pole Polar Research Ship should be equipped with giant wheels or skis on the bottom, for getting around and stuff.
when you feel the need to start an opinion with "im not 100% technicalblabla..." you should rather refrain from having any opinion at all until you better educated about the topic
I guess with zero CO2 emissions by 2050 they'll be going back to dogs sleds! Not only that Table Mountain will be like a slalom course trying to dodge all the solar panels and wind turbines!
Could or rather should a population of polar bears be re-located in the Antarctic - if the species becomes near-extinction in the Arctic? And could this population survive the conditions, find enough food and find enough suitable den building locations?
I just love it when I get that pop up saying "Someone has liked your comment" or "Someone has subscribed!"😍 Make somebody's day better! Have a good day❤ PEOPLE!😃🥴
If they dropped the adverts plagiarising other peoples work to line their own pockets I’d like and subscribe in a flash… ! A couple of not so clever edits and poor narration doesn’t cut it… if you want to argue your part of the problem ! Go and hire a crew and film your own shit and earn your right to make your money then you get my respect. That doesn’t include playing PS4 games or the such like… get a real story- get the money- get the crew let’s go from there….
I wonder if there is a remote possibility tge other elephant seals realiZe a big computer growing up out his head, and shun them or maybe it reflects light and scares prey away, has there been any research into these possibilities,or do we have a right to get the data.
I'm absolutely gobsmacked that the weather balloons are still the same as 50 years ago. Ocean turtles die from ingesting floating things just like those balloons, not to mention whales and any other marine animal that eat squid or related marine animals. Surely the technology has advanced enough that there must be an alternative to for the balloon material to be made from. Any other material or even maybe a drone would be better than something that WILL kill any animal that ingests the balloon thinking it's a squid. Please don't use rubber or synthetics as your balloon material
Yeah I was shocked at that too. And they do it every 12 hours for weeks on end not counting all the other ships on similar expeditions doing the same. I thought scientists knew better.
I believe I watched this with a different narration. Less climate change since it's all backfired since filming and currently Antarctica has more ice than it's ever had
@@dickfitswell3437 Global warming is increasing du to the Sun cycles of change + many other Cosmic rays . Nothing has backfired at all as u mentioned . You probably watched too much Disney movies .
Kite based wind generator would work. Not light fabric of course. The benefit is a conical kite would have a venturi effect accelerating the wind and increasing the energy produced. You'd just have to set up a suspension system to support it. When it's not windy, it just hangs vertically. You could run lines and lines of them all producing more power than a conventional wind farm. Would work. :)
Sadly to produce enough heat via electricity that wind sail would have to be absolutely massive (and it wouldn't survive icing or snow buildup in winter) I'm assuming the turbines must have some sort of de-icing capabilities built in, but producing hydrogen may be a more realistic form of heat, and that's pretty outlandish and energy intensive, but could theoretically be done year round... Geothermal heat would only be a theoretical option in a couple of very limited Antarctic regions as far as I know, so realistically Antarctica I'd probably the last place on earth that will stop using Fossil Fuels (especially when considering dependability/reliability) Well maybe besides China... They'll still be burning coal unfiltered when the Antarctic is diesel free 🤦♂️ (I think nuclear is banned per updated on the treaty if I remember, although not until after the US had a couple of early incidents in Antarctica at the start of the atomic age 🙄 They were mostly concerned with saving diesel expenditures for longer expedition times, but the early compact reactor design was not the safest or most environmentally redundant... A story worth checking out if you like Antarctic history 👍
It also had a small camera. So they could see whatever the seal was looking at. It’s also the safest place to put the device as the seals don’t bump their heads on stuff but quite often they rub their bodies on rocks and things. Its the same with birds of prey. The back of their head is the one place that the device is safe.
