Around 1943, the situation began to change in favor of the Soviet Union on all fronts. From the counterattack on Stalingrad until March of the same year, the Red Army had defeated around one hundred enemy divisions.
In July, Operation Citadel took place, this German offensive that aimed to capture the city of Kursk became known as the largest armored battle in history, which took place on the fields of Prokhorovka. This would be Hitler's last major offensive in the Soviet Union and would mark the end of the German initiative on the Eastern Front.
