I absolutely love house #3, it’s like an enchanted dream, the surrounding scenery is so pleasant and calming, and I loved the interior. Lots of light. The 4th one seems dark, it would be nice to add more light inside. But the most important thing is that you both love the house the best~
I bought a 1450sqft 2bd cottage surrounded by farmland in 2020 because I had the same revelation. Instead of using my hard earned income to pay a mortgage, I have more conservative expenses and plenty of income to do things I really care about (take care of many animals). None of my friends or family understand, but it’s so nice to see someone in the same headspace. Even if you didn’t pick the 1st one in this video, it was just nice to see.

In australia and england (where im from and where partner and I are moving) because of land and houce prices no matter how small, you kinda have to be stuck in the race just to afford a small house w small garden. We basically just spend on food to cook from scratch and medical bills or essentials and still going trying to buy a little place. Like the first house she shows on this video is 350k??? 1450! That is a full blown home where I am from!!! A cottage (the typical cottage you would think) is much smaller than that! Obviously different perspectives but damn, 1450 is a large home! not a mansion by any means but I grew up with 6 people and a dog in a 3 bedroom 1300 sq ft home and it had a second floor and a huge basement. Plus 2 bathrooms and a decent backyard. I would never consider that a “cottage” but I am curious if you only used that term because of the location you are in?
@@madisyncampbell5112 I think is based on countries. What people in Canada/ United Stated consider small is medium to big in Australia or many countries in Europe. And they can get something much bigger with more land for so much cheaper than a small place in australia/europe. Some of us are stuck on the rat race just to keep a humble roof over our head.

I think you saved the best for last and chose house #4. you were smiling the whole time and talking about how it has a lot of things you would have wanted to do to the other houses. it just seems like it has space and also the charm of the older houses. plus big closet hahaha you also left a few hints in other recent videos ;) my guess for date for closing is going to be June 21 just because that’s the day we closed on our home last year!! Consumerism is definitely a thing and attaining that "American Dream" is really just shoved down our throats from when we're young kids which does make us think that anything other than that is not good enough. With that said, I really do appreciate you touching on that first thing, especially as a content creator and with this house hunting journey
Alana I hope you feel better soon! I’ve been thinking about writing to you for a while and just tell you that you need to protect your assets. Tim seems like an amazing guy and I am sure your marriage will thrive. You’ve worked way too hard for all that you have and you need to protect it all in some way. You never know what life can throw at you. I’m a few years older than you and I got married at your age. I’ve learned to protect what I have because people do change and sometimes not for the better. Please don’t take this the wrong way I love you and I see myself in you so much. Protect you is all I can say. Wishing you all the best.
I hope you don’t find this offensive, I have to share my thoughts on your comment, When you go into marriage it should be a forever commitment. There is no “plan B” As a Christian we pray snd ask God to guide our steps, open and close doors, we allow Him to guide our paths. Going into a marriage, which is an institution established by God Himself, we don’t enter that serious commitment lightly, we don’t plan our escape route “just in case” To tell a young bride to protect herself from the man God gave her to protect her is not good marriage advice. It’s not sound counsel to “warn her about her husband” We don’t know a lot about Tim. He maybe 5. Xs wealthier then Alana. Let’s trust her and believe she’s sensible. She’s done a fine job with her life financially so far. Let’s support them and the family they have become, instead of throwing doubt at her. Let’s encourage her to continue to seek God who is ants her yo have His very best, after all God loves her more then anyone else does.

I am not saying hers will but she can’t live in a fairy tale. I respect your views and I wish the world truly operated as you described. I was her now I’ve learned and if I can teach a younger women something I learned the hard way I will. I’m sorry that it’s doesn’t jive with you. It’s important to be rooted at reality. I always say I want a tiny house thats easy to mantain and keep super clean and nice and I think not a lot of people get it, bu I love that you are also making the decision to be authentic and have a smaller house, its s refreshing

I honestly liked the other two houses more, but I liked the outside space in this las ones better; my favorite house was the second one, but the noisy street is quite bothersome so honestly, I don't know what you chose.

It’s crazy how people’s definition of small or downsizing are so different to who you ask. These homes are huge compared to mine and lots of land. Nothing “downsized” about it! Someone in a previous comment was talking about their small 1450 sq ft house and I’m sitting here thinking…that is huge! Nothing small about that. I want to see a series of RU-vidrs in actual small homes (less than 1000 square feet). This comment isn’t from a bad vibe perspective, I am truly shocked anyone thinks these are small homes!

I think you went with house #3 because the background seemed similar to the background of the video you posted 5 days ago and also you mentioned the price being lower meaning you could put more into fixing it up.
