Matt. I'm a fellow middle aged mechanical engineer and I absolutely love your videos. After 3 years of struggling with my SimpliSafe system I feel the exact opposite about it. Both their hardware and software are trash. I was on the phone troubleshooting with them more than once a month. It was a gigantic waste of time and energy. My parents have a system as well and it's effectively useless for them since they can't constantly troubleshoot it. I finally gave up and replaced it with Ring and it's infinitely better. I'm glad you're getting paid to do cool stuff, but be aware you're pushing a very crappy product with this one.

As a wireless system, it's also simply jammed, and thieves know this. Hard wired, with the wires embedded as deeply and as difficult to get at as possible (yes, it's a pain - but that's the point; it's also a pain for the thieves) is really the only way to go.

11:46 Hey matt just so you know, if you save your cad files as STEP instead of STL before printing, you get actual round holes and curvy curves instead of approximations with straight lines as you get now. It is also a little bit faster to print because the printer does a smooth continuous curve instead of a bunch of straight lines where it has to accelerate and decelerate all the time.

Matt, a boat building tip - look into fillets. If you are joining two panels at right angles, then adding a fillet before the glass or carbon makes the weave much easier to deal with. And you may not even need the fabric as fillets are often made with micro fibers (and epoxy) or another filler which has enough strength on its own.
