Hey y'all, even though we didn't hit the like goal within the first week, I do still want to release the Iron Lung discussion. So, whenever this video hits 100 likes, that video will be the next thing I do
I love that motor spirit uses the witchcraft lick on (I think) octave up and chorus’d guitars, and then has this little push off bit that sounds like witches casting a spell to disappear into a cloud of smoke
See, I was like that with Rat's Nest at first too, and now it's one of my favorite of their albums. I'll probably give changes another listen at some point, maybe it'll change my mind
@@iamtuesday9502 My all-time favourite Giz track is from Changes....Exploding Suns. It's a great example of how giving a song space can work so well, it seems simple and a bit empty at first but the space given between each beat gives every note more impact. It's such a groove and is constantly giving you an anticipation and release. The Middle is pure psychedelica too and all put together the track is a pure trip.
@@iamtuesday9502changes has to be my favorite album ever. a good chunk of it is just me being a music nerd and how over-engineered the connections are between the main song, Change, and how it acts as a blueprint for the rest of the songs. plus all the themes are pretty cool and it sounds better every time I listen, and I must've listened to it about 150+ times fully according to apple music.
At Red Rocks 2022, Balrog leads into Trapdoor, kind of implying that the Balrog is the creature that "everybody knows what's under the door." Another little Gizzverse bit.
Lots of rookie gizzfan mistakes here, the albums are MADE IN TIMELAND and LAMINATED DEMIN, which are anagrams for one another. MADE IN TIMELAND's two songs are TIMELAND and SMOKE AND MIRRORS. LAMINATED DENIM'S two songs are THE LAND BEFORE TIMELAND and HYPERTENSION. Both albums are pretty unique on their own merits. Made In Timeland was Vinyl-only until Laminated Denim released last year. Both are supposedly just intended to be used as interlude music for Red Rocks (Both albums are exactly 30 mins long) but Laminated Denim has lyrics that callback Polygondwanaland, Timeland to a lesser degree, as well as PDA/TSC and Changes to a lesser degree. From what I understand, there was a lot of hype around MADE IN TIMELAND when it was originally about to release (it was leaked in the UK), and fans weren't super happy with the largely instrumental sound. There's a theory that Laminated Denim was written to make up for the apparent disappointment about Timeland when it originally released. Additionally, can you call yourself a true gizzhead if you don't listen to the new album so much it makes you spew chunky shrapnel the day it releases? Probably. Will I care if you don't? Probably not. Anyway, love hearing people's thoughts as they grapple with the mysterious Gizzverse and all the secrets she may hold. I wonder when Mother Nature is going to make a return.
Yeah, for whatever reason my brain kept wanting to say The Land Before Timeland whenever I was referring to Made in Timeland for a lot of that discussion, lol. I would absolutely love to hear Made in Timeland as a show interlude though; lotta chaotic energy there, but in a good way
I made a theorie about him I think he’s one the universe faces like yeah and he has multiple forms like physical and lighting form and something in between? Also i don’t remember im in your mind fuzz very well but i tried to connect it with invisible face man and i got nothing? Idk its still confusing
8:00 I made it all the way through in one night, it was awesome. But also I was peaking on Acid through the whole thing, so the whole thing is a blur. I just kept having my mind blown repeatedly by how many musical motifs and callbacks they used through their first several albums, and how it all ties together in MOTU and Polygondwanaland.
I mean... yeah, that'll do it. It doesn't help that the Gizzverse Movie is kind of a blur in and of itself Kinda reminds me of how I first found the band: I was listening to The Claypool Lennon Delirium one night and the KEXP The River video got recommended to me. This led to the Flying Microtonal Banana KEXP vids, then Fishing for Fishies, then the MOTU music vids It was a long strange night
This video was great. The combination of casual banter, carefree editing, and just the fun from talking about music really got to me. Also, the Eric Andre Morpheus transition was absolutely gold. I sure hope we can get the video on Iron Lung, because the music video was kind of the precursor to Gizztober, which is now a total blur to me in retrospect. Thanks for the chaotic rant 😸
I feel like chaotic rants are part of the brand at this point, lol. They're definitely the most fun to produce. Hearing Iron Lung for the first time was definitely an experience, and it almost feels entirely like a lifetime ago. October 2022 was a fun month
Also in the last song of motu Exploding sun was mentioned which is one change songs I tried to connect it but it didn’t really made sense either people lived on mars and left earth and it got “digital black” so when the sun actually exploded because of han-tyumi vomiting people on mars knew? Man the gizzverse is killing my brain
I knew it had something to do with the lore, just because Hypertension has that line, "Harbinger of changes Destiny exchanges" I suspected that before Changes came out, it would be some kind of serious addition to the Gizzverse. The lyrics of the various songs definitely scream "Prelude to PDA", too. It's like the inbetween album that should go before ITRN and Fishing For Fishies. Then after Fishing For, you've got PDA, followed by TSC, followed by ITRN.@@Mightyset
tbh i listened to laminated denim multiple times this week it was amazing but the only connected was the part de-railed from iron lung and rerailed in time before timeland and the one u said @@ahealthkit2745
whats your opinion on and interpretation of The Silver Cords story? i loved it, i see it as "Oh Everything is Fucked! Might as well have fun!" as opposed to Petrogragonic's "Oh Everything is FUcked Oh fuck God Shit is that a dragon"
I just finished listening to Theia/The Silver Cord/Set and it kinda felt like a personal discovery type of story from my initial impressions. I'm drawn to the point where Joey talks about "breaking through" leading to a lyrical and tonal shift in the music and, despite it being bonkers to witness, the more grounded parts with Stu and Amby at the end. Theia really feels like the narrator is disconnected from either themselves, not having a concrete grasp on who they are, or from the world around them which is supported visually in the music video by everything melding together - there is no separation between the narrators and the setting. This of course changes gradually by witnessing the cosmic awesomeness of creation in the world around, and putting oneself in it, leading to the "break through". The rest of Joey's lyrics then address his characters own place in the world by acknowledging the roles of image and perception, before leading to the more party vibes of Set. This is all just my initial reaction though. I'll need more time to come to any concrete conclusions. If this stuff is the sound of their next album though, I'm all for it.
@@iamtuesday9502 I really love that take on the album, its not one i've heard before! theres a lot of different vibes in TSC, bouncing between party vibes, chaos, & the beauty but also finality of life(?) imo it mirrors both PDA & Polygondwanaland's themes in ways while being its own identity. Also maybe one of Gizz's most complex things. Its hard to dislike even though its not something i'd typically listen too.
