This is Abby ("A"luminum-"B"lue-"B"lack-"Y"ellow). She is less than 4 months old, and one of the only Akikiki to fledge in 2021. The part of Kauai where she is from -- once thought to be the final stronghold for the species -- has suffered a 95% drop in breeding birds in the past two (2!!!!!) years. There may be only a few dozen Akikiki left in the wild, and it seems possible they will all be gone in a year or two. This is what extinction looks like.
