Another epic professional narration. I never took a good look at the penal legions. But now I understand. There more desperate then other guardsmen because they want to be redeemed. It's TRUE 40k is about the humans.
"Just one more reason sir!" The corporal spun around on his heel, his eye brow raised jn question. For a moment, I paused, before saying, "I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of seeing me dead, yet!" Finally, as if I haven't seen horror enough yet, a full smile broke upon his face, and without word, he turned and walked off.
This is why I love The Guard, no Demi-God Space Marines in sight, just normal Humans against an army of Genetically-Perfect Apex Predators, a Las-Gun in one hand and Grenades in the other and they hold the line.
That's my favourite 'vibe' for Sci-fi.. same reason Firefly and parts of Mandalorian felt so cool and familiar. It's that smooth, western'y cool vibe. Nothing like it !
(Swarm lord sees colonel waving power sword like a lunatic) Swarm lord: that's one angry chicken nugget... I'll leave him for last. Colonel: damn, the swarm lord ran away, I was going to skin it and wear it as steel toe boots...
Love the rumour that Shaefer practices unaliveing himself in his spare time. I know the official canon explanation for this too: some Navy ensign walked into Shaefer's room without knocking and caught him in the middle of a vicious autoerotic asphyxiation session. Luckily nobody believed the story and everyone just assumed he was practicing suey side.
That carnifex description really dates this story. That description was of, what is know as the screamer killer, carnifex pre third edition. Fantastic narration.
@@UCannotDefeatMyShmeat true the base concept never left the tyranid line, but this description here is exactly for the pre third edition codex carnifex. The carnifex model was changed in 3rd and continued to be changed.
@@AVoxintheVoid another one I love this one he talks about a guardsman that broke the rules and now and it in a penal Legion group for one last breath this one hit the spot
All I can spare right now - going through a bit of a rough patch, but I just wanted to add to the appreciation we all have for your work. You pouring so much time, love and sweat into this means many of us can find much-needed solace after a shitty day, week or month, and, I mean, thank you brother.
Last chancers favorite regiment. Can't get enough of them Loved lieutenant Cage's near death religious experience the way he accepts his fate and doesn't immediately think how he's make excuses. Willing to accept any judgement like a true servant of the Emperor.
"I was taking a big risk, coz if they didn't follow me I'd be standing at the gate alone when whatever was big enough to batter 3 feet of plasteel came through. But then I heard the thud of boots behind me, so I guess the suckers fell for it." Brilliant story and QUALITY narration I can't wait to check out the rest of your content.
last chancers are one of the most UNDEREPRESENTED units or factions in 40k and deserve FAR more lore then they have gotten. they are the SUICIDE SQUAD of 40k. edit: and we got that ONE entry in the 3rd ed imperial Codex for these guys and then... nothing?

It's a shame there aren't more stories about penal guard legions, and I don't say that simply because I both find Cadians tedious or because the Savlar Chemdogs are my favorite legion. I just find the concepts and techniques of asymmetric warfare that such units specialize in to be more interesting than the whole "stand in this trench and die like rats" theme that the IG prevalently holds.
I would love to read more stories about that side of the guard. Have you heard of Sven Hassel? His stories about a German penal legion in ww2 were a direct influence on the last chancers
@@AVoxintheVoid I have not, although I guess now I should. I had just figured the Last Chancers we're a tongue in cheek nod to Hogan's Heroes, but I guess I have another book for my backlog now.
Mate, you have something good going on here. I just binged the lot, and one of my favorite bits is the Plague Marine in Redemption saying "For de peoble" in slightly Jamaican fashion. Something about those three little words just captured the Nurgle followers perfectly, aswell as your talent as a voice actor, and I dont even like Chaos factions. I hope Majorkill or Balders get you on their radar, both do wacky and good shit when it comes to 40k, and co-operation would be amazing. Even if you just want to do you, I think you are a great addition to the community. Subbed. In perpetuity.
Absolutely phenomenal. I read this years ago as a teenager but having this read out in such an exceptional narration is remarkable. Thank you for posting this, keep up the awesome work!
I definitely will sprinkle in the longer ones here and there, it takes so long to record and edit but I know they're worth it in the end. Thankyou for the support Dakota! Vox
Shit man I'm totally gobsmacked. How do you do it? You do it everytime! The southern music suits this. Its so good my imagination goes mad. You've got this shit sussed keep it up! Im thinkn youve worked in audio perhaps tv music....your formulas great
Hey Chris! Thanks my friend. Means a lot to know how my work is perceived by others. I thought so too about the southern music..it was a risk, but one I was willing to take! I used to be a singer in a band and have acted my whole life but no professional experience really, just a lot of trial and error.
@@AVoxintheVoid curious about the band thing a local thing or something bigger? What sort of music also? I'll take a guess.......perhaps something rock similar to the stones!!!??
It was always more metal, a few bands that were a bit lighter but definitely had to be rock. If you look back through my community feed you'll find a link to one of songs. We did pretty well in the UK, toured a bit with well known bands but members just wanted to move away and it all fizzled out.
@@AVoxintheVoid that's cool you've got the voice for rock or metal man. I'm a metal fan and a fan of southern metal mostly..... but im obsessed with mushroomhead i grew up on rock stones aero gunz metallica etc.i Cheers for the chat vox youre the man! Keep up the amazing work bro! You'll hear from me again no doubt take it easy man.
The music kicked in when he said the title after the short intro while I was skating with the sun climbing over the mtns to the east and I am just flying - just was synchronistic and badass as hell
@@AVoxintheVoid am glad you enjoyed yourself mate, and I hope you can do some more last chancers stuff at some point, you put me right there with Cage and the others 😊👍
Every video I see more and more traction I love the passion I can feel from each video keep up the amazing work Paul you blow my mind with every video and now I get a perfect look at the mindset of a deadman pushing with every ounce of strength he has
only experience with the Imperial Guard is here on youtube, mostly through you, so I say, I greatly appreciate it, that was an awesome story, can't wait to play as these guys in Darktide
One of the most gripping 40k narrations I've heard ever. The music and sounds were great, but the narration - just phenomenal. Been a while since I've lost myself in a story like this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you're doing the lord emperor's work.
I actually found the song on epidemic sound (my royalty free music subscription). It was so good I had to use it! Obviously that company had the same idea!
Man, I love the Last Chancers! After Gaunt and his Ghosts, they are my favourite named characters in the Imperium of Men. Currently reading the Omnibus and planning out an Astra Militarum Kill Team in their honor. Your Kage voice is almost exactly how I envisioned Kage myself when reading the stories and the western music and ambient sounds fit perfectly. Great job!
Man I've always loved penal legion stories, have you heard of Sven hassel? Author who wrote from a German penal legion point of view in ww2. Can't recommend those books enough, especially as they were cited as one of the biggest influences for the last Chancers. Thanks for the compliment and the comment!
The part about Ichar was a nice touch.. We had Titans there and Space Marines and even Eldar .... Millions of men and guns and we just won... Thats just crazy
Love this vid, the last chancers was one of the first books i read 10 -15 years ago. Love the western music, and this story as 10th ed with nids coming out is just so right.
I must admit I am not a fan of Gav Thorpe. His writing does not feel like it belongs in warhammer 40k. I can not place the exact reason why as it he just doesn’t work for me. That being said your delivery of this work was excellent. I really enjoyed this and hope you’re able to continue with other works such as this.
Keep up the good work! Thank you for listening to the fan requests. Maybe some Soul Drinkers next. Always loved the story about doing the right thing but getting screwed in the end. It is a Very relatable story.
I've become a raving fan. Your choice of music and sfx sets so good a scene, atmosphere and immersion on-top of already amazing voice-work. I wish everyone made this effort.
You are one of the BEST as to the lore & Master Puzzle Piecer-(MUCH is inverted/entirely different as to polarities, just as "Real" life can be/appear)- to be ~I call em Face-Erasers & ScramblerScarabs. Those that obscure the truth(s).... Used to have a "Big5" of Lorekeepers/Remembrancers/Participants, now its getting so very much higher! Impressive narration/story telling!
@@AVoxintheVoid You are very welcome friend. As a fellow artist I understand the ridiculous amount of TIME that the final draft results from... This 40K material isnt as "Fictitious" as is read, written & expressed...;)
IM SPEECHLESS……. 😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶 VOX….. I know you have thought about being a producer…… talent of your caliber is not made overnight … your seasoned production has years of passion in your work …. If I were blindfolded I would of swore I was hearing a movie playing…… please pursue a direction towards producing a movie ….. this video was beyond anything I’ve come across… this and your FLESH NOOSE vid. Man I enjoyed em both.
Never thought about seriously going into movie sound production personally. Would be an amazing job though! I really appreciate your kind words sir, gives me confidence that what I'm doing is on the right track.
Your Are professional RU-vid content creator in any regards, capturing my imagination like no other 40k content creators. Anymore Tyranid or Orc shorts lined up ?
The music at 4 minutes was a fantastic addition, combined with the voices you chose, went together like peanut butter and jelly. Great way to introduce the Last Chancers. Music throughout the video was also great. Who knew banjo cold work so well in W40K. Only thing I would recommend is adding in music credits in the description. Found the first song using AHA Music, but the rest sadly allude me. Overall got to be one of my favorite videos of yours so far. Great job as always.
Cheers Mc chicken! I loved making this! What a cool bunch of characters. I use epidemic music so I don't need to credit the songs but I will do in future!!
