During World War 2, as Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany conquered nation after nation, European Jews were stripped of their rights, forced into ghettos, deported to concentration camps, and murdered. Even in 1944, when it became clear that Germany would lose the war, Hitler and his supporters didn’t give up their war against the Jews. His forces urgently pursued the killing of the largest remaining Jewish population in Europe - the Jews of Hungary. This is the story of five Hungarian survivors during the last year of World War 2 - a grandmother, a teacher, a businessman, an artist, and a U.S. congressman - as they return from the United States to their hometowns and to the ghettos and concentration camps that once imprisoned them.
The Last Days is a 1998 American documentary film Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, directed by James Moll, produced by June Beallor and Ken Lipper and music by Hans Zimmer. Steven Spielberg also Founder of USC Shoah Foundation, said: “My sincere hope is this beautifully re-mastered version will serve as a catalyst to continued conversations around the consequences of anti-Semitism and hatred.” This is a powerful film and a strong reminder to global audiences about the importance of kindness, compassion, empathy, civility, and democratic values and what it means to be stronger than hate. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 71st Academy Awards. It was re-mastered and currently available on Netflix.
