This is standard on Chinese video: there are a lot of different pronunciations across China for characters that are the same all over the place (there are actually two different set of characters since the communists imposed the "simplified" set in the PRC but it is still way more unified on the written language). However, English subtitles are also very common if the author is willing to share with non-Chinese speakers, which does not seem to be the case here.
Cantonese is a phonetically challenge language, many spoken sounds do not have written equivalent. A standard traditional Chinese subtitles here are for the benefits of a Hong Kong audience. Yes, English subtitles will broaden the knowledge of what these people went through when their livelihoods was taken away. Thanks for the explanation given by the previous reviewer.
nee hao - if they speak CANTONESE they often put MANDARIN in SUB-TITLES, - - the people are CHINESE they speak - Mandarin , or Cantonese = = why put just english , there are plenty of other languages
@@lesleygeorge4132 it would be easier for the people from outside of hong kong to understand, also most mainlanders wouldn't understand the subtitles because it is in traditional chinese whereas the mainland uses simplified chinese.
