This is like a bad mix of Banished, Frostpunk, and Surviving the Aftermath and it's been in Early Access since March 2020. Yes, March 2020. I misspoke in the video.

Update: After finishing this review, I realized that the developers used Jeremy Soule's "The Northerner Diaries" album as the soundtrack for this game. It's technically free to use if you credit him, but I'm not sure if he is mentioned anywhere.

Yes, I know the game is out of Early Access now and is considered "finished". I'll return to it at some point in the future because as of the time of this comment (March 6, 2023) they're still patching it. Some shit is still broken so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt to fix things.

Okay, okay, but "Total Conflict: Resistance" is very promising. and unlike this game, it gets updated ALMOST DAILY. So yes, pretty sad this game is left unfinished, but the game they are actively working on is pretty cool. You should try that one too. Also, pretty interesting arguement going on a comment under, I'm just not gonna get into that...

I'll take a look. I see that there's a demo out for it, and of course if this game ever gets updated and/or finished I'll revisit it. As for that guy, yea he's a total clown lmao.

Been playing it recently, it has a certain charm and I have been having fun, Still has issues. I read that the dev who was lead on this game got called up to fight in the Ukrainian conflict and hopes to return someday to carry on patching it. The rest of the team is working on their new game.

I'm not watching the video. I just saw your comment on Steam. Your first statement about rushing greenhouse II and house I is incorrect. In fact, I take my sweet time on Housing and make them live in shacks for a couple of winters. Build a hospital and get heating and all the cold folks will go warm themselves up in the tent. I never have folks die from cold. As far as Greenhouses, I usually get Greenhouse II earlier than some other techs, but I have also played without it. You can easily do Greenhouse 1 and use scavengers to supplement the food in the first winter. I have also bought food from the dealer when I'm short. The reason why I go to Greenhouse II on the early side is to save on metal. I'd rather build lots of Greenhouse II instead of I.

Thanks for the comment. You could have left it on the Steam page since you don't plan on watching this video. I'm pretty sure it would be visible to more people as well as this is a tiny, tiny channel. I'm glad you found another way to play the game, but I'm pretty sure rushing greenhouse 2 + house 2 is easier and more efficient than your method, especially since no resources are being spent on the trader (unless you've researched commerce by then). I never found a reason to use him until I had boatloads of "free" cash. It would have helped if the game had a tutorial that would explain how to play the game or possibly provide the player with some ideas to survive the perpetual winter (I know the temp starts going back up after it hits -50C). Even when I set the zombie amount to the highest possible, my soldiers are still able to clear the entire map and survive all the hordes with no research into combat and by leaving them in their default "patrol" state. This allows me to quickly rush greenhouse 2 + house 2, then start dabbling with the other research trees. That aside, it still doesn't absolve the game from the plethora of other problems it has such as awful civilian AI that runs face-first into death, the inability to put soldiers back into patrol after grouping them or giving them a move order, missing the basic gameplay element that every other game of this genre has regarding setting limits on manufacturing and resource production, and the boring unfun gameplay loop of defending from marauders/invading marauders.

@@PvtHudson I could have left it on steam, but I couldn't reply directly to your comment. You provided me with an avenue to reply directly to you. You said it is broke because you had to research these specific techs right off the bat in order to survive the first winter, which is by far an incorrect statement. Now you are saying it's about efficiency. Which is it? Efficiency or life or death tech? I wouldn't be commenting if you started with the efficiency. That's subjective. How far have you gotten in the game? Have you gotten into the 100+? I do not find the game to be a repetitive cycle. It get progressively more difficult over time. You start interacting with the world instead of just your small haven. Sure it would be nice if there were more guides and such. Maybe I'll write one. I just found your negative comment to be incorrect and had to address it. I don't need to watch your video because I know you are way off base on the first point you made on Steam.

I got to day 92 at the time of this review. Played it for a little longer to day 97. The gameplay loop now is to defend yourself against increasingly difficult marauder attacks while then going out and taking over their bases on the world map. Is this what you mean by "interacting with the world"? Is there anything else that I'm missing? And yes, I've _ONLY_ put 13 hours into the game. How many hours must I continue to put into it until it gets good? All right buddy, if you're not going to watch the video that addresses multiple issues that the game has, then don't bother commenting anymore. My Steam "comment" is public with commenting allowed. It was also a brief summary with just SOME of the points that I made in this 20-minute-long video. Feel free to enjoy your shitty game.

@@PvtHudson All right Pal, I'm already here so I'll stay. If you only have 13 hours in, then you don't have an understanding of the game. Which is obvious with your initial Steam comments about having to have House I and Greenhouse II in order to survive the first winter. If you are completely wrong about that, then 13 hours obviously isn't enough time. At 97 days, maybe you are in mid game? And it's probably your first time, so you don't know what you are doing. It takes me a few hours to get to midgame and I know what I'm doing. There is a lot more to it than 97 days. I hate crapping on your RU-vid career, but you seem to be crapping on a game that you haven't played. This isn't EA that you are crapping on, but an independent developer. I don't care about your comment on Steam, and would disregard it completely based on your hours. However, you are trying to launch your RU-vid career on crapping on what you don't know. That's the sad part. People should probably disregard you. If I were you, I'd scrap this video, go play the game a lot more, then come back and give an honest critique of the game. Right now you are complaining about the football game even though the first quarter isn't over.
