***** Definitely, the Danes are more likeable in this series because they are so brutal and they love it. Ragnar is just too soft and merciful while all the chieftains in this series are just a joy to watch
+Charlie62104 the entire series is about Uhtred. The books are all written in first person and he is the one telling the story. They have destroyed Uhtred. the Uhtred of the books make a Ubba look like a pansy!
@@Nords55 it’s a different tone. In the books it’s heavily implied Ivar is in good faith and ready to renounce Odin in case Edmund survives. Here is played more like a joke, since show Ubba has a more wicked sense of humor compared to the cold Ivar of the book
This Ubba is faaar more badass than the one in Vikings, and they are both sons of ragnar lodbrok, actually when Ubba leaves to ireland to avenge his brother, it was Ivar the Boneless the one who died, I wish that they had included him aswell :'(
This is when I knew The Last Kingdom was going to be a great show. A pulsating historical drama but one that isn't afraid to put in a bit of comedy at the right time.
It never fails to amuse me how he just immediately switches topic after that guy dies. It's like 'Meh, that was underwhelming. Now to other business!'.
When I heard they a gonna make a film of Bernards Cornwell' Last Kingdom I really hoped that they show this scene in their movie.I laughed much when I read it
@TheNikolatesla34 as I already said your just a tit..ragnar is the best character in any show so ya viking is one of the best in not knocking last kingdom great show just not better then vikings
I'd say The Last Kingdom Seasons 1 to 3 are equal to or better than Vikings. It fell off hard after Season 3 in my opinion. I got more frustrated and annoyed with 4 and 5 than anything. Only Edward, Eadith, Finan and Uhtred made it worth watching. Vikings meanwhile was incredible Seasons 1-4. 5 Was trash, 6 was okay ish but nothing great. Overall, I'd say the two are pretty close, but Vikings 1-4 was legendary. Only rare moments with Alfred touched on the level of atmosphere and emotion early Vikings had.
@@x-shapedscar1832 Also in the books who had all this conversation with Edmund is Ivar, he is also who orders to shoot him. Shame they cut Ivar from the show :/
After that ubba helped guthrum in his invation of wessex were his army would die to a storm and what was left...defeated by a random earl of wessex. Ubba should have taken the offer.....instead he just died in the battlefield and guthrum was defeated later.
Yes it is meant to do so, though the king in Bernard Cornwell’s book is portrayed as a cowardly man who nearly abandons his faith in order to avoid death. He comes off better in this version. If you’re looking for a story that mocks Christianity whenever it can, this is the show for you. Because of Cornwell’s personal experience being raised by fundamentalist Christians, he has no love for the religion.
The armors and clothing were really bad in the first few seasons, but it's gotten much better in the later ones. Saxons are actually wearing chainmail instead of some weird Xena leather armor like in Vikings.
Eilton Ribeiro i watched it for the lolz.. the main protagonist makes the most idiot decisions, i cant wait to see what stupid shit he will do next hahaha
such a disgusting depiction of the death of a Catholic saint. No evidence to suggest he acted like this when faced with death yet producers just _had_ to make a mockery out of it
I didn't get the feeling that the character was built as a saint of the church but more a greedy ruler/king. Anyone can claim to be a follower of god doesn't mean they do not fear death since that's by human nature is what our brain is built to avoid. Also it's fiction. If you feel attacked by something that do not align with your belief don't watch it. But it makes for a boring story. This scene wouldn't have resonated with people as much if all the dude did went "oh yeah kill me i'm cool with it". It doesn't add the drama. The fear that all of humanity can relate to. He comes off more as a human by the way he acted since it makes more logical sense to people. Sometimes people seem to forget that to create the drama you first need to create the villain. For this scene to be more of a heroic stand and be like "oh yeah kill me" they would have needed to build up the character with more background than the short time he was shown. Nobody cares of a random dude getting killed in a story thats been on screen for less than 5min showing little to none human emotions.
I did really like Vikings but its actually gone downhill after Ragnar's death. Ive started The last kingdom quite recently and I like it so far. This version of Ubba just looks and acts like a crazy huge beast. Brilliant casting.
