@@iceicejay9569 After the amount of harassment she got from that guy and his viewers I doubt she wants to even remember he exists, much less have a debate with him
The point about "it was only 30 years" would make more sense if there wasn't like 20 years between World War I and World War II, with more or less the same antagonists.
I have to say, I love Scott´s passion, always have. I saw Jenny, I thought ´who is this? Where´s the passion? She´s got no chance.´ Then she came up with some of the best arguments I´ve ever heard on MF. She was cool, calm, collected, the perfect antithesis of Scott´s OTT arguments... my new fav fighter! Good work JEN!
Round 1 might be the biggest slam dunk of an argument that I have ever seen on movie fights. Jenny absolutely killed it, and did it respectfully and eloquently.
LOL, I feel like Mantz was completely flabbergasted and confused by Jenny's sense of humor. She's so tongue-in-cheek that he had such a hard time deciphering when she was being serious and when she was messing around. It completely baffled him (especially at 29:58). I'd love to see a Jenny vs Mike Carlson matchup... that show would be 100% dry humor hilarious.
Yeah it seems like he can’t keep up. He keeps trying to joke about her name and it falls flat or seems ill-mannered every time. She runs circles around him
Ok i made a timestamp list of the times jenny does a bit and commits so fiercely and delivers it so deadpan people might actually think shes serious, and sometimes she is serious. Heres the journey this video takes you to into jennys sense of humour 3:40 "whats seinfeld" 21:25 "now you have to change your opinion, its been decided" 24:20 i mean all this debate is kinda that but im putting in specific timestamps 27:00 "you also picked justice league?" 29:00 "we all know what hes like" 29:28 this is the peak scott confusion point 43:50 jenny fully talking in detail about the book fifty shades of grey and scott trying to 'get' jenny by pointing out she read it 48:59 "look at mother the best film of the year" 53:20 now scott got into her rythm and they are both going full fifty layers of sarcasm humour 56:56 the whole dont wake daddy bit is the full cyrcle we went from doing a bit to commiting to the bit, to believing in the bit, to it is no longer a bit its just an ideia so wacky it might actually work... the way she pitched that on the spot: amazing, ugh her mind
wow, Scott seems such a grumpy grandpa with his Star Wars 'arguments'. Jenny's actually thought about her views and argues them beautifully. Scott's just whining how the new movies aren't his old SW and is unable to see how all the new material might be adding to the richness - the depth - of the saga.
No it's not these are the same straw man argument she made in her own RU-vid this movie was a complete step back from any previous star wars movie and it's the sole reason people have a problem with Disney star wars
Can’t fight Jenny on Star Wars man. Her arguments are so fleshed out. I want to agree with Mantz but every time Jenny throws a rebuttal, I find myself nodding along
Round 1: Jenny is so smart and articulate. She's gonna destroy Mantz. Beginning of Round 2: Oh. Never mind. Later in round 2: I take that back, she's a genius.
Here super late, but that first fight was a perfect representation of the argument surrounding TLJ (in my opinion). Scott kept bringing up the OT and TFA and kept trying to paint TLJ into a small box of where the film "should have" gone, and Jenny kept proving that all of those differences with TLJ and the ST are all valid, interesting directions to go. Needless to say, I think Jenny owned that first fight.
It seemed like some weird, condescending power move thing. Of course, he wasn't ready for her to act like she needed to read his name off his podium to remember it. Come for the king, you best not miss, my dude.
While I don't think he's actually a creep, I agree. It got annoying. Either he was genuinely trying to be cute, or he was attempting to get in her head. Either way, it failed hard. Plus, Scott can't pull a power play to save his life. He's just not the type of intellectual he thinks he can be.
as an after effects compositor and designer I'm really touched by jenny's choice for justice league. some people just don't get how challenging it is to get really bad materials and turning them into something that's OK.
What a one sided fight. Everything Scott says it's either so obvious it doesn't need to be said, or is just ripped from the RU-vid comments section. Jenny is creative and thoughtful, and is exactly what a critic should be, not someone who just tells us what we already saw, but helps us process the film, and at times reframe it to appreciate it for what it is. Scott, just saying whether or not YOU liked it is NOT an argument on the film's quality. You're a schill. Quit your day job.
I think TLJ is a good but flawed movie and I don't quite share Jenny's complete enthusiastic love for it. That said, seeing her calmly and logically lay out the things she appreciated about it and pick apart why the criticisms of the movie are not as severe, damning, or even relevant as the accompanying vitriol would imply was just... refreshing.
He keeps saying her full name like a father trying to bring his daughter to heel. Condescending power plays like are what motivates millenials to retaliate with age discrimination.
I like new movies fights and old movie fights. The addition of three judges is great , Hal is great , new look is great. But would love three fighters , it makes the debates more interesting
Dan Collins three fighters forces the action like bigger blinds in poker. Also, you really can see into the fighters personality trying to get a word in
As someone who didn't like the movie and who came out of the theathre deeply disappointed, I have never felt more compelled to like it than by listening to that guy argue against it. I disagreed with almost everything he said to the point that I wondered if I had actually dislked it at all...
Yeah, sometimes we feel shitty after a movie it's actually because it challenges us. Have you watched Jenny's own videos about TLJ? They're pretty strong
When you’ve already seen Jenny’s video on The Last Jedi, listening to Scott’s arguments against it are painful, cause you already know her opinions on the people who think that.
Tbh jenny is a great fighter lol like she picks things that are hard to argue and does a great job doing it if she was just more assertive i think she could compete for the championship
Scott never really tries to rebuke Jenny's points, he just brings up other subjective issues he had with the movie instead. Basically he just changes the subject.
I thought the Last Jedi was absolutely great. That being said, I was worried about hearing more arguing about this movie, yet I was pleasantly surprised that it was a calm, fact-based, friendly debate. good for you.
Am I the only one that got really annoyed by the way that Mantz kept referring to Jenny by her full name? It felt like he was constantly talking down to her and was almost arrogantly condescending. Props to Jenny for not letting it get to her and keeping a cool head, 'cause every time he did it, I felt myself getting progressively pissed off.
Scott is complaining about TFA undoing the progress of the Light Side in the OT to rehash ANH after just 30 years... well Lucas intended for the OT to be the Vietnam War with space wizards, and 30 years after the IRL Vietnam War, the US got into another war where the Bush administration repeated basically every mistake that Kennedy/Johnson/Nixon made in Vietnam. So what TFA does actually makes a lot of sense thematically.
I agree with Jenny. If Luke was just a perfect angel in the Last Jedi, there would be nothing interesting or original about his character. I liked watching him exert a lot of those flaws that he DID HAVE in the original trilogy
It's stunning to me how this tiny nerd who's obsessed with My Little Pony, Star Wars, plush toys and theme parks has such an incredible comedic mind and keen intellect. People who're into what she's into tend to be... not like this
Scott keeps comparing this new trilogy with the originals and that's such a terrible mindset when watching these new films. That's why half the fanbase is so triggered by The Last Jedi. They can't look past their own fanboy, nostalgic preconceptions. Kylo Ren isn't a pussy and Rey isn't a Mary Sue. They're two people on opposite sides of the force who are internally conflicted about their place in the galaxy. If you ask me, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is the most complex character in The Skywalker Saga.
Remember that time dan got salty cause Jenny called him dumb? I don't remember what it was about but it was for sure my favorite moment in movie fights
She's a legend of getting killed at "Star Wars" trivia (I beat her, go years not watching "Star Wars" movies...amazing.) In terms of broadcasting, she's almost attractive, which makes her the most compelling human on this panel.
@@gibberconfirm166 just passing by after discovering this video, wanted to say i hope you've gone to therapy in the six years since leaving this fucking weird comment
Purely in terms of debate prep, Nicholson managed to diffuse and sidestep Mantz' arguments, and then proceed to make her point in a clear and succinct way. Mantz' argument style was flashier, with more emotionally-driven rhetoric. I liked both.
Chuck Hoyle Damsel in Distress? Please supply a time code. She didn't even say anything when she got cut off by Hal after 10 seconds when she was explicitly told she had 30
Scott totally lost all faith in me when he said, "that was so cheesy!" as a negative about a star wars movie. When did all these fans suddenly think that star wars was a serious movie? It's like people put blinders on and forget all the cheese and weird, misplaced humor that was packed into the original trilogy. Isn't weird that Han says, "I thought they smelled bad, on the outside," as a joke to himself as when Luke is unconscious and he just sliced open an animal? People take it WAY too seriously.
This chick is actually a very focus and well verse on her arguments, thats what happend when you challenge a quick witted person vs somebody that just rambles
I thought Kylo Rens whole character thing was that he actually is a Darth Vader wannabe. Like in canon he wants to be like Darth Vader and thats why he has his helmet and snoke tells him to take it off and that he looked ridiculous. Because vader needed his suit to live. Kylo doesn't.
Come on Scott Mantz! Not one good argument against the Last Jedi than I don't like the new characters?? I can think of about 10 and I didnt hate Last Jedi. That said I love Jenny, she is just so funny!
I hated TLJ. Unfortunately, Jenny had the vastly superior argument. That doesn't make the movie any better, but it sure proves her skill as a movie fighter.
13:10 Star Wars *has* always been super cheesy. The first movie feels far more campy and paroidic than people would like to remember. 15:55 Exactly! He thinks an insecure character equals to a bad character. He so desperately wants Star Wars to regress back to its own tropes while criticising the similarities at the same time.
I love Jenny in this, Mantz is such a creep and I love how she just outwits him at every turn. The way he keeps saying Jenny "E" Nicholson, my god what an annoying guy, I would choose the bear 10/10 times over him if you catch my drift...
I literally cannot stand Last Jedi haters. Its not that you dislike the film, that's fine. But you all won't stop whining, making unreasonable demands (like re-shooting the entire movie!), insulting anyone who disagrees with you (by calling us casuals, morons, not true fans, etc) and act like the prequels don't exist. Seriously, grow up. Here's why you didn't like the movie: it didn't confirm your fan theories. Rey being a nobody, Snock being unimportant, Luke not being the traditional hero, Kylo not turning to the light side. Hate the Porgs, whatever. Every Star Wars has dumb cute animals in them. The fact so many people have NOTHING good to say about the movie tells me that you WANT to hate it. No admission on how awesome the mid-movie light sabre melee was? No praise for the cinematics of the light-speed collision? No "at least the acting was good" comments? Get real, for your own sakes.
*Baby Driver* was the most overlooked movie because of it absolutely painstaking editing and acting to beats of songs that actually dictated the length of scenes and all in one shots that must have taken a hundred takes. Unfortunately Kevin Spacey sunk Ansel Elgort formal introduction to the broader movie-going audience in what was truly a vastly entertaining, funny, the job action packed Thriller, Sweet Love Story with Incredible editing and sound that almost has to be seen in the theater to be appreciated in context of the characters hearing issues. So Kevin Spacey ended up screwing Ansel Elgort too! And at your right to boot.
Man, Jenny's fucking awesome--not just on Movie Fights but overall in general. Her views, perspectives, demeanor, personality, intellect, etc...Yea, she's dope....
I loved it and I think Star wars fans are weird: when the Force Awakens came out lots of people were complaining about the originality, now we have something different and they are pissed 'cause It is not like the original... But hey that is just my opinion
Lol. Jenny owns Scott so hard in the first Star Wars round! I love how she calmly and eloquently explains all his arguments. And you know what? She is right!
She made a video about all the cliche reasons people hated Last Jedi, and Scott touched on almost all of them. She already knew how to respond to all of his points
Mantz was terrible on that Stars War round. I would make her look silly. In other words her chance of winning round 1 is zero. For example Hal asked her about the ranking she is lying as hell. If you watch her channel she hates Rogue One so that film can't be number one ...lol so there u go.
Kylo is the kind of villain that works these days - flawed, with actual emotions and not 100% evil. these days we want all our characters in shades of grey morally just like real life. I think hes more interesting as an emotionally complex flawed character than just a worse rehash of vader.
I'm sorry but WHAT! The Last Jedi was AMAZING! I saw it 3 times in cinema's and loved it every time. It gave great character development to Kylo and Rey and we got to meet great charaters like DJ and Rose. The only thing that i didn't like about it was the casino planet but even that part of the movie had good aspects of it. How dare you sir!
This debate illustrates how dumb most of the criticism against the movie are. Every argument the guy (I don't remeber his name) made, can be debunked by looking how it fits in the larger story of the movie. For example, the Casino Subplot. People say it is bad becuase it is pointless. If you only analyze this scene alone, it will look like a bad scene. But if you realize it happens in a movie about failure and that we need a good representation of this theme other than Luke Skywalker himself, you realize that this scene is good for the movie (you can think it is boring, that's subjectve). The same goes for every argument against the film. Jenny debunked it perfectly, like she always does.
Jenny won every point in the Star Wars debate wow girl you go I was not very into the movie but after hearing her?? I might even like the movie or at least appreciate it a lot more #winner
