Tapping into his extensive experience in public service as a former Liberian Minister for Public Works, W. Gyude Moore boldly presents one big idea - to revolutionize Africa’s roads. He paints an image worth aspiring towards- a trans-African highway which spans the length and breadth of the continent, weaving through a future with stronger connectivity and better infrastructure. The result is an exciting talk with professional examples of garnered gains and lessons learned leading to a vision of gathering the best resources to make this a reality.
Intro music - Blue Boss by Sampa the great W. Gyude Moore is a visiting fellow at the Center for Global Development. He previously served as Liberia’s Minister of Public Works and country lead on the construction and maintenance infrastructure from December 2014 to January 2018. At CGD, Moore will be exploring governance, looking at the infrastructure sector in particular. He will also focus on channels of attracting private finance into African infrastructure. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

How is it two years with only 11k views? 🤔 It's so worrying for some who loves Africa and wants to see it achieve it's full potential. Let us share this message let's us spread the word. Let's change Africa not by meetings but by action.

This is an inspiring talk, such a fundamental thing that has profound impact. I hope his dream come true some day soon. Also, I am wondering if all the road materials are sourced/created locally, is it really too expansive to build paved road?

US estimate is ~$7 million per mile and ~$11 million in urban areas, but existing logistical challenges on the continent such as lack of roads would probably bump that cost up.

The problem with Africa is that research is not seen as priority. Leaders spend too much on sectors that are not a priority and ignore research.

This was the public work minister in Liberia, a job exclusively for road specifically and other infrastructural projects, yet, Liberia has the worst rural road network in Africa! This just to say Africa development is all talk!
