“last minute of play in this period”-Bud Lynch... was lucky enough to be there that night for the final game in The Joe...i also now own the seat I sat in for that game...Good Times Great Memories...GO WINGS!
The Little Caesars Arena will NEVER BE AS LOUD as he Joe Louis arena. And this is coming from a Rangers fan. MSG isn't like it was it use to be since the renovation.
Little Caesars Arena is a beautiful complex. The vision the Illitch family and District Detroit has for the city is phenomenal! I had the fortunate opportunity some may call this "luck" (as a hockey player since 4 years old and Red Wings fan forever) to be a structural Ironwork foreman on the Little Caesars arena. I hadn' been nor seen the finished product and the last time I put eyes on the arena was when it was just an Iron structure and looking at the prints in my print shack. Until I took my son Duran to his first Wings game vs Sabers and Raymond Lucas scored in OT. 2 words, Absolutely Amazing! What the District Detroit has done makes this the nicest hockey arena I personally have ever seen! We all love the Joe also
It was almost for the better that the Wings' playoff streak ended this year. Otherwise this moment can't occur. If the last game in a building is in the playoffs you won't always know when the last game will be. This way it was definitively the last game and it got the sendoff it deserved.
The Joe is the only arena i know in my 42 years on this earth and having been away from Detroit for the Navy and now employment reasons, the games I got to make when I was younger and my final game at the joe which was my wife's first game so many years ago will be a memory I will forever cherish. This year isn't so much about "The Streak" as it is about the chapter we close and the new one that will open next season. Thanks for the memories Joe!
I have all the respect for the fans standing for the Joe im a bolts fan but the Joe has to be one of the best arenas of all time and Little Ceasers will never replace it
unfortunately that has been so. The recording seems like it has been enhanced a bit since the start of last season, but it will never give off the same feelings and vibes that the real one at JLA did. Glad we at least got 5 final blasts of the old horn before moving to LCA.
Isn't there anything that could have been done to continue playing there, now that the Joe is dead Madison Square Garden is the only arena in the league that isn't named after a corporation.
F Dannn Madison Square Garden is a company in a way. They own The Forum in Los Angeles. Speaking of The Forum, I was there for the final home game of the Kings before they moved to Staples Center, very similar ending.
F Dannn I thought the same thing. They could have renovated it like Nassau Coliseum on Long Island and use it as a second arena. But they are past the point of saving it
Although I'm a Habs fan, I'm a hockey fan. This was definitely an emotional night for them and I wish the Red Wings the best! And so long, Joe Louis arena!
Glad I took the ten hour car ride to make it here back in December. Sad to see another amazing NHL arena go. Nothing better than the old stadiums. This place will be missed.
I've been to the Garden twice. They re-did the place in 2014 and it is pretty much brand new now. I know it is technically the oldest arena, but it feels nothing like an old arena when you're there.
Over the years...I've seen probably 700 games in that building. The new arena is going to be absolutely fantastic, but, I'm going to have many fond memories of the Joe. Being in the stands...the night of June 7th 1997 to watch the Red Wings clinch game 4 over the Flyers to win the Stanley Cup will always be tops on the list.
My Grandfather and my father had the Olympia, Dad and I had the Joe, now my son and I have LCA. I miss Joe Louis Arena but so thankful for the memories of that era.
I'll tell you when they played the show must go on. There was not a dry eye in the house. To some it was an arena To us the fans of the Red Wings it was home.
Coming from a die hard chicago Blackhawks fan. I’m gonna miss the Joe Louis Arena. I miss the Hawks playing the Red Wings all the time, now that the wings are in the eastern conference(which is beyond stupid) they don’t play there as much. But I will miss the memories and all the great players that have played in a red wings uniform while playing in the Joe against the Hawks!
I dunno why but I think it would have been a classy move to do a handshake line. I know it's not a playoff game but it's the last game at the Joe. best of luck to the wings and gonna miss the Joe. -preds fan.
