What a perfect 1st episode. The way they stayed extremely faithful to the game while also giving us scenes that deepen the story and make it much more meaningful was great. Every actor absolutely blew me away with how they embodied these characters, especially Pedro and Gabriel as Joel and Tommy. It’s insane to how much Gabriel Luna sounds like Jeffery Pierce. Amazing casting all around. If every episode is as good as this one, this might be the best video adaptation I’ve ever seen. Still can’t believe that episode 1 was an hour and a half. Felt like 10 mins went by. I could’ve watched the whole season right then and there lol. I’m very excited to see the rest of this season and all of y’all’s reactions.

I play the games several times but I captivated by the story anyway, it's a big win if you impress people who already know everything about a story LOL I cried at the same point, love Elli and Joel but what they adding are also very good.

Very eerie how much more topical the opening is, talking about a potential pandemic, than when the game itself even came out. I love the way the fungus protrudes from the infected people's mouths in this. I'm glad you two enjoyed it so much, I'm looking forward to reactions to the rest of the show!

Great reaction to a great first episode! It was so gut wrenching that I had to take a couple of pause breaks. Amazing how one came to love Sarah and the father/daughter pairing in just a short bit of screen time. Pedro nails it again. Amazing cast overall. Glad to see Kat, rocking the pink!

It is wild how perfectly they threaded the needle. I have played TLOU like 4 times, I know the story, but they managed to keep me riveted and the performances were so perfect. Different but the same. I am stoked that Merle got to reprise the role on screen.

The best adaptation of a video game ever made and we are still in the first episode, can’t imagine how good and brutal this will get if this is the start! Btw that info about the fungus in the start of the episode is true this a real fungus that infects zombified ants

1st off *god we missed you Kat* welcome back! Now, the very opening for this series was completely different from the original game yet it was so freaking perfect! It described how dangerous fungi and Cordyceps specifically EVEN BETTER a than the game! And even the entire Outbreak Day flashback was somehow even done better. My heart was pounding the moment Sarah woke up. I’ve played the game 7 times already and thought I could prepare myself for Sarah’s death, but nope, I was almost as broken as Joel. As for Ellie, Bella Ramsay was as perfectly cast as Ellie as The rest of the cast was. And in the behind the scenes feature for this episode the creator Neil Druckman said that Ellie was almost happy watching Joel protect her because she has never had a parental figure in her life. God this show is going to be AMAZING!

Man, even knowing what was coming that tore me up. The cast is amazing!

I love how they showed that Joel is not a good guy. He's not a hero he's not someone who is going to do the right thing. He's going to do what is necessary to survive and take care of his own. Also when Joel caved in that soldiers head in with his fists was perfect. The show stayed true to the game and showed Joel's dark side when he gets enraged and becomes a monster.

They did a great job with the pilot episode. They captured all the major beats from the beginning of the game. Looking forward to the next episode!

Loved the reaction. This episode really hit hard with Sarah and the boy with the sneakers. It all was really well done. On a side note, as a fellow female, I find that pink is a great color that really brings out the tone in Kat's skin. Both the color and style looks great!

Great reaction! I was looking forward to this show and they did not disappoint. I have never played the video game so this story is all new to me. There were definitely some tear-jerky moments 😂in this first episode when Joel's daughter died & when that random kid with the green shoelaces who was infected died I had to whip out the tissues. Well it looks like this first episode sets up Joel & Ellie for their cross country tour. I can't wait to see what kind of chaos they meet along the way... Awesome hair Kat!!!

I like a lot of the changes they did with the show. For example, the spores are not in this and they went with the original concept art before the spores called “the tendrils”. Realistically all the spores would be in the air so everyone would be dead, not just in some zones and anyway when they get out of the zones with the spores when they have their mask on in the games they would still have spores in the hair and clothes, it would be impossible so I love it this way more because it’s more realistic and TLOU is very grounded and realistic, so it makes more sense like this and also the tendrils makes the infected EVEN MORE creepy and show how all of them are connected so I love it. And how the infection works. In the game it takes like two days to turn, in here like they showed in the scene with the little boy in the sign if you get bitten in the leg being the farthest part to the brain it takes a lot of hours or a day so it makes more sense, then torso, shoulders and hands, it takes some hours and then head it takes minutes and that makes it even more scarier, I love it. Like even smaller change like the guy that shot Sarah saying “I’m sorry” is an improvement. It’s shows he is just following orders and didn’t wanted to do it. Amazing. I love all the new scenes we got, everything is perfect, all the cast is perfect and the scene after Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught I love how Joel had PTSD, it made the scene more emotional and I liked it better in the show. Amazing pilot episode! 10/10 I love it

This may be the Best Game Adaptation to date. I loved this Episode… But to answer that question at 12:44 That was probably the Airplanes Tire. Because it bounced off the Building and hit them. I’m sure if it was the Engine it would have impacted the building only…

The reason they brought up the cookies (and cake) so much likely was because that is how the fungus initially got inside people - contaminated ingredients, like flour etc.

That was an amazing episode. As someone who has lived in Boston for the last 20 years, seeing post zombie appocolypse Boston was unerving. When I first heard they were making this into a tv show I watched like 30 min of a youtube video of game play. I never played cause I didnt have the right console. I had to stop cause I didnt want ruin the show and I am glad i did. Cause as you said it matched up perfectly. What happens to Joels daughter was so gutting. You both are so sweet and love that you share your parental emotions. Dont ever lose that emotion, this is why I love your channel. Loved the Danish word of the day. I have 1899 on my list and I am going to start it soon. Cant wait to watch those reactions too.

I'm not a gamer so I'm not familiar with the LOU story but after watching the 1st episode, I'm very curious what kept going Joel going for the 20 years after losing Sarah and before meeting Ellie. His existence seems so utterly joyless and hopeless -- what motivated him to continue to struggle to survive for those 20 years?

When I started watching this, I immediately thought "great another woke baggage of trash" because they race swapped Sara; man Im so glad I was wrong. Even though she was race swapped, the actress nailed being Sara to the T. It was really faithful to the start of the game and its already a great episode. Im so glad the series is staying true to the original masterpiece. See? It can be done! You can be woke as long as the damn thing is good, just make a good series!! Great episode.

Great first pilot. The deviations so far have been for the better. Certain things like the Robert mission in game would have been a waste of time to play out on screen especially with how expensive shows are to make these days. I was also so surprised how emotional I got at the opening knowing the outcome.
