Since the world ended in 2003, it would be great for people to watch movies about hope and world rebuilding, stuff about heroes and heroines. Star Wars, the original trilogy comes to mind, the Indiana Jones series as well. I also feel films like Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan would be incredibly important for this world. Also, art and humanities is something essential to us being human, so there isn’t really any wrong film to watch. Comedies, tragedies, dramas, documentaries, etc. all serve to entertain, and give a bit of escape in this dire universe. Hell, they do this for us now.
@@Bruceisthemaskthere’s a difference between shock and vulnerability. joel was in shock when sarah died but joel made the choice to open up to tommy. he chose to be vulnerable.
Part of me wonders how joel feels knowing that he took such extreme measures and took a deal that led to Tess getting bit thinking “Tommy’s in trouble I gotta get to him as soon as possible!” Now seeing that Tommy is fine. That they didn’t need a battery, they didn’t need to bring Ellie anywhere, that if Tommy had only radio’d and let him know he was ok that Tess would still be ok.
That is were the anger and rescentment came from in his looks towards Maria, and Tommy having a good life. He was also jealous. Graig and Neil talk about it in the podcast. For me I felt Joel in this moment, being the first born, and seeing how my little brother has had it easier during our time with a sick mom. I was angry for a long time and been having so much shit happen to me since then. But now I look at my little brother and he is married and a dad. I am happy that one of us got some sort of normal functional life. Sounds very sad, but I will get there to where I want to be.
Also, I don’t know it the Cody tower is still operational; Maria said they’re careful about using the radio, but a few characters confirm Cody is overrun w/ infected… so it might just be a case of dramatic irony, where Joel assumes Tommy chose to stop contacting Joel, when really the tower was out; it also might have amounted to the same thing to both characters though, where Tommy is too preoccupied and overwhelmed w/ the idea of introducing Jackson to Joel, and Joel is desperate for a chance to save a family member because he couldn’t save Sarah
@@number1fool I think this was solved in ep 2. When they realize Ellie is immune, both of them (specially Tess) state that she matters way more than both of their lives. Heck: Tess´s last wish is for Joel to get Ellie to a lab, where they can create a cure, because (and I quote) "She fckng matters, Joel..." So Im pretty sure Joel doesn´t even care about how it all started... Just about the cure.
@@davedavidson8093 and also Craig mazin is nailed every episode. I know this the first post apocalyptic video game who's not produced on Sony pictures..
Marlon and Florence must be protected at all costs. They are the best. Relationship goals right there. Joel: “Point to it on the map. And it better be the same spot she pointed to.” Marlon: “Did you tell him the truth?” Florence: “Yeah.” Marlon: “…….Are you telling me the truth?” Florence: “Yeah.” 😂
If Pedro Pascal is not nominated for best actor at every awards show this year THEN NO ONE DESERVES TO BE NOMINATED!!!! This was perhaps my most anticipated episode of the season and somehow it’s BETTER THAN THE GAME! Jackson looks beautiful and Gabriel Luna is as perfectly cast as Tommy as Pedro is for Joel. But what really got me were scenes of Joel clutching his heart from panic attacks and looking up to see a young woman who almost looks like Sarah, and when he was telling Tommy the truth that he believed that he was going to fail Ellie and get her killed. When Joel was getting teary eyed I cried at that scene, but when we got to my absolute favorite dramatic scene in the game when Joel and Ellie are talking about loss I lost it. That was my most anticipated scene of the entire series and not only did it live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And just like the game it broke me.😭😭😭😭
The number of times I screamed ‘leave the knife in!’ haha. Another solid episode. Incredible showings from everyone, but especially Pedro Pascal. The kind of anxious fear that has settled in Joel comes out so naturally in Pascal’s performance. There’s not only a boundary between Joel and everyone else, but between Joel and his own fears/feelings. He’s cut himself off from being vulnerable with anyone else, but also with himself. He really hasn’t let himself feel anything until they get to Wyoming. You could argue Tess got through that boundary a little, but Ellie has just blown it wide open. And it’s all set against the beautiful backdrop of snowy mountains. :)
I was like, leave the part of the bat in there Joel!! But I get under stress and adrenaline that he would take it out. It happens. Oeeii, all that old wood and small pieces, he will get a infection.
If you can be carried to medical attention, YES leave the foreign object in the puncture; HOWEVER, if you have to move quickly/far to escape further harm, leaving the object in can create further tearing and trauma… imagine Joel hauling himself onto the horse w/ that shiv jammed in him
Me too! I was thinking he shouldn't have pulled it out! But then... I thought they will be on horseback. The gallop might make it keep stabbing his flesh if he left it there (plus infection from splinters) so it's probably better to get it out. @_@
This episode was amazing and being that it's episode 6 of 9, this serves as the end of the second act, where Joel and Ellie finally reach some sort of understanding at the end that they do care about each other only for things to go sideways again. The scene where Ellie pushes Joel is almost identical to the game (they even got the wallpaper the same), and it's one of the most critical scenes to get right since it's where Joel realizes that Ellie's emotional burden is on par with his own and there is an unspoken understanding after that of, "We both know now that I care for you like a daughter and you care for me like a father but we're too damaged to say so openly so we won't speak of it again", and in many ways if that scene didn't work, then the whole story doesn't work. It was one of the scenes I was MOST anxious to see how they handled it in the show, since Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson did SUCH a great job w/ it in the game - the bar was high. But I have to say that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey hit it out of the park, there are so many emotions that they are both feeling in that scene and we as the audience feel every one of them, it's brilliant and so well done. Cheers
@@ryans413 the ‘Left Behind’ episode also introduces Ellie’s mom I think, so as Ellie is brooding over a potentially dying Joel she’s recounting the 2 people she lost before meeting Joel and Tess
Right?! I love that they actually showed dealing with periods. It’s not often addressed in these kinds of stories but that would seriously effect so many girls and women’s lives
This one was an emotional rollercoaster, loved the acting here so much. And they have been making really good credit songs choices, love the callback with this one.
This one was emotionally draining, the acting was SO good, Pedro was just perfect, so vulnerable and broken, he made me cry with just one look when he thought he saw Sarah
The Native American lady, Elaine Miles, used to be on Northern Exposure, for years. And the guy is Graham Greene, of course, from Dances With Wolves. Maria is Rutina Wesley, from True Blood. Man, lines direct from the game.
Not a big deal, but the thing that Joel got stabbed with was the handle of the baseball bat that the raider broke when he missed Joel and hit the tree.
@@madtitan0825 I get that. I can relate in doing that. Whenever Joel pulls stuff out of his backpack I imagine the crafting screen lol. Also when they first run into the clickers earlier in the season, Pedro Pascal nailed the dodge animation from the game lmao
Funny you mentioned they should make a musical episode with Joel singing. After you finish the last episode this season, you should check out the alternate ending of the game. I think you'll feel very satisfied 😂
The woman from the married couple at the beginning played the secretary/office manager on Northern Exposure. Such a great 90s sitcom. She is so great and I hope she gets more work from this - she should be in all the things.
John and Tara - Loving your reactions! As much as I love Greg and Andrew’s reactions as well, Im really enjoying how you guys have come into this series blind (I’m kind of the same way, as I haven’t played the game either); your reactions seem much more fresh sometimes because you don’t find yourself comparing it to the games version, or predicting that “hey, this scene in the episode happens in this part of the game”; a legitimately pure reaction! Keep ‘Em coming! 😁🙌🏽
Okay no spoilers but hang on too your chairs because these last three episodes you will experience sadness , happiness , anger. More action more danger some heartfelt happy moments and I’m not sure how they will do the ending but it might be controversial depending how you see it.

that line tommy (Gabriel Luna) says "just because life stopped for you doesn't it has to stop for me" has depth..... no just in words but also in Gabriel Luna's voice... when he says that
The only dimension I felt muted in the Tommy character was regret for Sarah’s death; nothing bad, it’s just hard compared to Joel who’s still in mourning
@@hellfish2309 i call that break-up syndrome. like when you break up you feel the lose and go through those 5 stages of grief. denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance... the period btw depression and acceptance can take 2 days, 2 month, 2 years or 20 years.... but as soon as you start mingling or distracting yourself with something else or find someone else. acceptance gets closer.... to a point you don't even realize you have accepted the things. after acceptance, we make amends with it and then comes part called moving on. tommy was hurt by losing sarah so much he wasn't in his right mind, he followed joel everywhere for 10-15 years.. then he wanted meaning to his life. like joel said he was a joiner so he joined fireflies.... he fought being rebel but the outcome what he saw was just death around him. he god himself lose... weathering to point he wants to die alone....(KINDA) then he came around this place jackson city.... he saw and heard how people survived even without doing half of what joel and tommy did to survive.... he was grieving for sarah and maria gave him place to remember sarah next to kevin's in board. tommy saw how maria healed herself and he followed her foot step towards healthing, making amend with it and growing... which is why those words when he said " just because life stopped for you, it doesn't have to stop for me" have a whole different meaning.... ////////////////////// Joel on other hand is still stuck at depression.... when he sees ellie he still remembers sarah....which is why he wanted to get apart from her...
@@theeddytor3490 that’s fair, but I was hoping they’d offer Gabriel some lines to farm it dramatically: “I am sorry! I am Sorry, that Sarah was taken, Brother… all those things you did I can’t judge you for, but there was no living for you; and I’m most sorry that here with Maria maybe there’s some for me…”
Our first encounter with Tommy in the first episode is that he’s 1) Late, and 2) In jail, but “It’s not my fault this time.” So I love that Ellie sees Maria believes Tommy’s story and tells her that she’s smarter than Tommy.
Damn this show keeps making me cry lol but it’s sooooo good loving this show so much!! Pedro and Bella needs some awards for their acting in this and the show in general deserves all the awards. I’m loving these reactions reactions xxx
As someone dealing with serious self-doubt right now (thankfully with much less responsibility than Joel) the scene between Joel and Tommy is so gut wrenching to watch. I want to give Joel the biggest hug 😭
This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. Dina, Jessie, Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheep, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic.
I loved how the Tommy & Joel and Joel & Ellie conversations mirrored each other - to Tommy, Joel is all 'I'm not good enough for her, I'm going to get her killed, I'm failing her' (I loved that they left it unspecified whether J was talking about just Sarah or Ellie as well, I think both based on the surrounding lines), and to Ellie he doesn't get to specify why he needs it to be Tommy to take her, he lifts his wall up the minute Ellie confronts him about it. Just perfect storytelling.
I have a feeling that in the next episode we will be in Joel's head, seeing flashbacks as like memories of Sarah, maybe he did some singing and playing a guitar too, before the world collapsed. That would be really interesting and neat to see since he has most likely gone into an unconscious state.
I really enjoy this channel's reaction coverage of this show. As a fan of the games, Greg and Andrew's elated and immediate recognition of easter eggs and other straight out of the game material is very rewarding. John and Tara, your speculations, jokes, and emotional reactions are very entertaining. I particularly enjoy your articulate analysis of each episode. Consider the bell rung.
I used to play with my father the first game of The Last Of Us when it first came out and it gives so much good memories… Now seeing how the game is produced as a series makes me so happy.
The sheep farm on the moon moment was small but so sweet. Of course they had to break our hearts after that, only to mend it and then break it all over again 😅😭
Really hope they have a scene in a future episode with Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker that's something like the scene with the older couple at the beginning.
it wasn't a railroad tie, when the raider came at Joel, he swung a bat at joel, but it hit the tree and broke the bat, you can hear it crack. he must have still been holding onto handle when he & joel were fightin and stabbed him with it. the song was the 80s depeche mode song Never Let me Down Again that was played at end episode one. this was a remix sung by the daughter of director Craig Mazin
So the song at the end is a cover of the Depeche Mode song that came over the radio in episode 1 that signaled "Danger". And it's performed by Craig Mazin's daughter.
This episode was like a rollercoaster ride emotionally. I was enjoying the whole show, but the thing I loved the most was the couple in the cabin. I wish there was a lot more of them. The wife's comedic timing was cracking me up. I really enjoy the John and Tara duo chemistry cause it's so fun and bubbly. Hope that Tara can become a regular like Andrew. I don't know why, but I feel that I would love watching you two react to Horror and Comedy movies/TV shows. The facial reactions to Horror would be felt and the funny stuff you two come up with during a Comedy would have me rolling in laughter. Enjoyed the reaction, so until next time 👍👍✌ out.
I seriously enjoy your reaction. I can’t watch it because it’s too violent and horrific, but watching that two of you react makes me feel like I still get to watch the significant plot points and scenes. Helps with the horror. Thank you for your intelligent and empathetic response.
Okay, so this may be completely silly all things considered, but I'm subscribing purely because of Tara's perfect use of Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" to tell people to subscribe. You got me. I'm a simple man with simple tastes, and disco is one of them. Well done.
Being careful what I say too, but I was really cracking up when Tara talked about her getting a friend like that girl in the dining hall and maybe they would talk about boys. 😂
In case no one's told you or you didn't find out for yourself. That thing in Joel's abdomen was the base of the handle to that guy he was fighting's baseball bat that broke when Joel dodged his swing and he hit the tree with it.
the end credit song "Never let me down again" is a cover of a song by jessica mazin - Craig mazin's daughter! IM waiting for her to release it on spotify !!
If you guys really do want a musical number. After season one finishes (assuming they follow the same ending of the first game) You can check out “Last of Us Alternate Ending” which is basically what you’re looking for
I think Joel is truly afraid of watching Ellie get hurt or killed. By the time he realizes he’s feeling his age, his fear becomes unbearable because he’s already beginning to love Ellie as a daughter, and it scares him to have those feelings, and terrified of losing her, failing her, and being reminded of the pain of losing Sarah (he said so much in their argument). Pedro Pascual really hit the mark with his performance in this episode, and Gabriel Luna’s and Bella Ramsey’s acting with him was nothing short of brilliant. This show has completely transcended the game, even if they’ve been taking 95% of the dialog from the source material, no offense to the fantastic actors who first gave the characters life.
I was completely hooked on the series from the start. Perfect mix of actions and emotions, the acting is impeccable. Pedro Pascal so screaming truth, just like Bella Ramsey. I like the game in finesse, a look, a posture and we understood the intention. I particularly liked the scene with the native couple. I had also wondered how natives who had remained close to nature would have experienced the events. In the end, it doesn't change much in their lives because they have always been in balance with nature and independent, I love that aspect. I also regret that we have not seen more exchanges between this couple and Joel and Ellie. Very surprised by Jackson City, almost too ideal even if it's good to see and to realize even more the gap between Ellie and the other children. Regarding Joel's panic attacks, they are logical since he becomes more and more attached to Ellie, which rekindles the fear of loss. He spent years shielding himself or using "crutches" (medication, alcohol) to sleep. Since he no longer has a way to “appease” his anxieties, they resurface. Can't wait to see the sequel and a little apprehensive too since it seems that the end is dark. I'm waiting for that.
