I'm dyspraxic. This nearly made me cry. I don't play video games because of the dexterity required and this is so wonderful. I hope this becomes more common.

I lost most of my sight a couple years ago. And I've been kinda stuck to fighting games for a while. And Wow! I can't believe I'm playing this games for 5 hours every single day since release. It's been like YEARS since I could play an adventure game like this. And thank you for the video! Great work!

This game absolutely blew my mind in terms of accessibility controls. My friend and I shareplayed this together and we were like kids in a candy shop realising that there were options we didn't know we needed. He had options for dyspraxia and benefitted from the point to objective markers and I benefitted from toggle controls, auto aim, and press and hold. While I don't label myself with a disability, having double scoliosis affects sensation and grip in my hands (hello button mashing) and having the *option* was incredible, even if I *can* play games without. Love it!

I’m surprised that these options weren’t more highlighted in the marketing of the game. Also where did you get the shirt Laura? My wife totally wants one too.

holy crap, you can play The Last of Us 2 blind? i remember when an iphone game came out with no visual graphics whatsoever and how much of a unique thing it was... but if you can ideally just do this with _any_ game (and judging by the fact that there is at least 1 professional fighting game player who is blind, i think you can) than these accessibility features in TLOU2 *really do* put every other AAA game to shame, don’t they?

In particular, I really hope Sony is able to enforce an OS-wide controller configuration UI, rather than having each game create its own rebinding screen. Steam Input does this and it is absolutely phenomenal in terms of both accessibility and just making able-bodied players use more comfortable or performant configurations, all without requiring developers implement what may be very complex options. Do you want to play a game using only a single button? You can do that with a variety of holds, double, triple taps, and combinations thereof. Want to use any arbitrary controller with any arbitrary game? Go for it. Use multiple controllers to control a single character, so you can have a foot pedal and a standard 360-style controller? That should be completely possible. By making games do their inputs through the OS rather than their own rebinding screen, we can have button prompts that match what the player has set (importing from the console's own default library of glyphs for more complex actions), configs can be shareable so that presets can be made by the community to fit specific needs. You can just have rear grip buttons for your controller so you don't ever have to use face buttons again, never take your thumb off the camera controls! You can have templates for games so your preferences for confirm/back can be kept, you can have consistence sensitivity settings for shooters. It's a software-level thing that would come as close to permitting hardware-level accessibility as possible. Imagine being able to plug in a keyboard lying around in your house and binding the left half to one button, the right to another, and using your feet to push them, like a makeshift version of Xbox's accessible controller. Or imagine using a keyboard because that's just what you prefer, or what you have lying around when a friend comes over to play. Said friend could even import their own custom controls if they wish! Steam Input is such a great idea that I wish got implemented on consoles so that there would be a serious push to make _all_ games interface with it. An open standard with open-source implementations on PC/Mac/Linux could follow and we could finally have games that will just let you rebind them however you damn well please. Enter the Gungeon without needing to constantly click until your finger is in physical pain would be a life-changer.

As someone who is not disabled, I would LOVE to play the original 'The Last of Us' with the customizable difficulty to make a campaign that is challenging but also enjoyable. 'The Last of Us' on Survival wasn't fun (I only did it to Platinum the game) but I would have loved to have played it where; Enemies do lots of damage Enemies are aggressive Allies are Decent in Combat BUT You get a lot of ammo and resources (that's the clincher). That would have been a lot of fun. Tough enemies but you actually have the resources to fight them effectively.
@LauraKBuzz
@LauraKBuzz 4 года назад
This is totally doable in 2. You can set Ammo Scarcity so resources are always plentiful, but crank the rest up to difficult, without issue.

There's a part of me that feels simultaneously heartbroken and baffled that a game which is so considerate to its players when it comes to accessibility - both in terms of these features and how it implements difficulty options - is so downright nihilistic and cruel when it comes to the story. Really hoping it becomes a trend-setter in terms of these options.

1) I love the premise of this series. Absolutely brilliant! 😃 2) What a fantastic video Laura! The production value, the amount of footage and editing. Just incredible! You got all of this done in, like, 24 hours! 😃

really great to see very mainstream games doing this! making games accessible means so many disabled ppl can play where they couldn't, imagine suddenly being able to play games where you couldn't before! ^.^

this is truly amazing. one highly specialised question i still have is if you have different font styles? different fonts are good for different people. for example most people hate dyslectic focused fonts, but unsurprisingly dyslects often take a liking to it as it simply makes reading easier.
@LauraKBuzz
@LauraKBuzz 4 года назад
@dayzgone I cannot see an option to alter subtitle text unfortunately. You can change the size, or the colour, or backdrop, but seemingly not font.

I am also so glad they added gyro aiming in a patch. A heavily underused feature in ps4 games. I get some pains when aiming a stick for a long period of time. So gyro aiming helps me. Hopefully games on ps5 games have this a a standard option, like switch games. It's too late for ps4 games. I gave up hoping that the ps4 version of doom eternal patches in it as an optionm even with the switch version coming out and having it day 1

I think software and hardware solutions are needed. A controller makes certain games far more accessible for me, but I need the software to deal with my issue processing QTEs.
@LauraKBuzz
@LauraKBuzz 4 года назад
Oh for sure. Software and hardware are two parts of the same whole. I'd love to see Microsoft's hardware solution and Sony's software solution both be cross platform supported in a perfect world. Both are helpful in very different ways.

i love this but they didn't make stealth any easier, that bloody vibration sound in the ear doesn't accurately tell you where you are seen. It would have been better to have maybe a vision cone that appears on the screen from the direction. stealth was improved from enemy AI but not so much with giving you clear indication.
@unal.05

You can enable the stealth indicator from the settings, like the E3 gameplay that they showed us.
