Brother, I'm a grown man in my late 30s, I've played the game three times over the years and that scene with Joel and Sarah emotionally wrecks me every time. The voice acting, the animations, atmosphere, thinking they've gotten to safety only to be heartbroken, it's so expertly made. You are in for such a treat if you can play this and its sequel, I can't wait to watch you feel it all. Cheers!
@@cnizzle9575although yes it may not be up to par with the first one. i still think there is a really good story told and it’s worth a full play-through. Especially if you like the characters in the first one enough. you should give it another chance if you haven’t done so yet.
@@kloud. i played it and didn’t like it, a lot of forgettable and forced characters, i even bought the remaster just for the new gamemode and still havent touched the storymode in it
Tips/suggestions: 1) Don't think of the game like you would an open world like RDR2. Naughty Dog games are beautiful but pretty linear. You can search for materials in the general area you're in, however large or small. Just remember that unlike a RDR2 the world isn't seemingly endless. So if you ever feel stuck or lost know that the path or solution is somewhat near by. Their goal is to deliver the story first and foremost, then adding fun gameplay around that story so it will kind of lead you forward the entire time. 2) I'd turn on aim assist in the settings. Remember, there is no set difficulty or way to play. Play on the essiest level with all the help they offer if that's what gives you a better experience. I assure you that they will not leave anything out even at the easier difficulties. All plot points, enemies and materials are present in all difficulty levels. All that changes is the ease at which enemies go down. Whatever makes the experience betted for you is the options and difficulty level you should use. Set up the aiming/look speed and such to whatever you like. 3) There is not a massive amount of materials and such in tje early game. If you don't see a prompt within a few feel of an area there likelly isn't anything to grab there. They want the world to have limited materials such as ammo so it's not unusual to walk into an encounter with five 9mm rounds, a brick and a bat, haha. 4) Finally, you can sometimes go around an enemy but at times the only way to go is through them or killing them. In all instances you can use stealth or world objects to help you. Be it throwing a brick to distract an enemy/lure them away from you to things like stealth kills. You can clear out entire rooms of enemkes with zero bullets if you desire that route. Your intuitions are keen, haha. You'll get the hang of it if you stick with it. I gua-run-tee!
Great comment. Mojave seems to enjoy looting. He's gonna love this, isn't he? This game is really a "thinker's game" IMO. It rewards understanding the details of how your various enemies behave and your different weapons work. For example, experimenting with bricks and bottles will reveal more uses for them.
R1. Listening mode. The d-pad is the inventory. Theres a distinct sound whe someone is spitting u. He asks about ammo but I don’t think he pays attention because there was 6 rounds on the stairs that popped up on his screen he just kept walking 😂. He’s already on easy u see how much ammo drops there have been
I would describe the Last of Us as having the spacial structure of a simple maze. Any time you see a fork in your path, you want to check the "fake path" or "blind alley" for loot before carrying on through the actual route. This structure is actually a little simpler than it at first appears.
@@eliteteamkiller319 When you kill an enemy and don't get any ammo, I just interpret that to mean that their ammo is not compatible with any of your guns.
Technically, they are not zombies lol.. But i get your meaning. I usually don’t like zombie games either, but this one quickly became one of my absolute favorite games.
The look in Joel's eyes and on his face when Ellie asks him if it can be that bad out there. He says everything to us, but not her, with his back turned., without saying a word.
Hello, MojaveD. This is the first video of yours that has popped up on my recommended. I am enjoying it a lot so far. I have a dear friend that's an employee at Naughty Dog (the creators of The Last of Us), and I've sent her this video. She works on accessibility features for their games. A simplified controller scheme for elderly gamers may very well be an option they're interested in. Great video. I hope you enjoy the game!
Welcome too the Mojave community man we’ve just been on one hell of a roller coaster with red dead redemption two and then red dead redemption 1 and now where on another one. This guy is truly one of the greats. You won’t be disappointed.
It would actually be a great option for the very easy mode for example, having less controlling functions to use (e.g. automatic reload if that is not already a thing in the easier modes). It would be helpful for people just getting into gaming as well.
There's something quite magical and beautiful about the fact that we're going on this journey with you now and the final destination is your painting in the background.
And this is the crown, this man may not have a soul left by the end of this😭😂. Rdr2 is up there too though, I just think there are a few scenes in this game that are absolutely unmatched
"How old is this game" There are three different versions of the same game. 2013: The Last of Us - Playstation 3 (Original Release) 2014: The Last of Us Remastered - Playstation 4 (The only difference here is the high definition textures) 2020: The Last of Us Part II - Playstation 4 & 5 (Sequel on a new game engine) 2022: The Last of Us Part I - Playstation 5 (Complete remake of the first game using an updated version of the new game engine they created to make Part II. This is the version you are playing in this video) We also have The Last of Us: Left Behind, which is a dlc campaign that takes place before the events of The Last of Us (The Last of Us, Remastered, and Part I), however, it should be played after you have completed the main campaign, because it spoils certain aspects of the main campaign.
the 2014 remaster's most important difference is that it runs at a stable 60fps. The PS3 version suffered from low, inconsistent framerate, like a lot of seventh generation games did
@@dakotah4866not really a dictatorship just martial law and its injustices. What that soldier did was a huge injustice that I don’t think many national guard would actually do
@@Soulthief4056 you'd be surprised on how crazy anybody in any military service of national guard, army, Navy. I mean I've watched reaction channels that had soldiers react to this game. And they said if there was ever something like this that went down with martial law get away from the military. We've been under martial law for over a hundred years and most people don't even know that
@@Soulthief4056 yeah sadly. here's something that I have been thinking about for quite some time after playing games when people talk about their military, what military are we talking about. You know the Union has a military it isn't like our or your military they don't take orders from us but one man who gets voted in. If someone said I had a military prove it. If someone said I had a military I want them to prove it to me where's my military what are my numbers do we have proof of the names contracted to me. you know enlistments then you can say I have a military. I think of the game Mount & blade as you moving around different kingdoms anywhere you want to hire whoever you want as your army. you know getting rid of bandits and all that stuff. and then you're a free man or woman and the only way you can be bound by a kingdom is by an oath otherwise you are a mercenary. Same rules apply to today when you are born in this Union, you were born free and you have to give your oath to be bound by something or someone. I have given no oath. There are people give blind allegiances and they don't know what to it's kind of scary
Must've seen the Sarah scene at least a dozen times and it still makes me tear up. They did indeed do a great job at evoking such an emotional response so quickly into the game. The acting and storytelling is superb throughout The Last of Us and that's why it's been so highly acclaimed over the the years 👍
I'm not sure if anyone else has said it yet, but something that may help in combat situations where you can't see the enemies... if you hold R1 (the button above the right trigger) it activates a "listening mode" where it highlights enemies through walls and past obstacles. Great video by the way man, hope you enjoy the game 👍
the opening of this game is probably one of my favorite openings in gaming history, sitting in the back of the car and watching as all the chaos ensues was crazy
@@Scottie4twenty you have 90+ comments on this channel and theyre all complaints about something or just being negative for no reason, are you sure youre not the one that should get out more?
I would rather watch you play this game than someone less than half your age. It’s a very refreshing experience because you come from an entirely different generation. I’ve seen other RU-vid channels owned by more seasoned gentleman like yourself play games like this and they always show a different kind of appreciation for the experience, a kind of appreciation you don’t see from younger folks (like me).
Channels like yours are seriously underrated! We need more RU-vidrs like you showing that gaming has no age limits. I really enjoyed watching this, keep the awesome content coming!
The eyes in this game are what separate last of us from every other game. The eyes of these characters tell hours worth of stories. Amazing game brother ♥
Naughty Dog nails the fidelity with these character models. They have a knack for the body and facial animations, the character's eyes tell so much without the need for dialogue.
Quick reminder. the game allows you to walk around and explore pretty much whenever you want. so you dont have the stay with the other characters all the time👍
rcently found the channel. loving the playthrough so far! I'm going to finish this series. truly amazing game, it's a bittersweet thing to see someone else experience the highs and lows
Omg, MojaveD! Fantastic! I'm so pleased you decided to play this game! Great graphics music and acting. I will certainly watch you play. I hope you enjoy! ❤ don't worry. I'm 71 years old too and I enjoy playing these ganes
This is one of my all time favorite games. Joel is one of the best written characters. The cordyceps virus they used in the game is a real virus I'm certain insects in the jungles of Amazon's. The ants actually grow fungus from their brains and it takes over their functions completely.
Quick tip: don’t hurry to follow the companions. You missed a few events and some optional rooms to explore. That’s how you find extra ammo and items. Be careful, because in this game 2 bullets is considered a bounty.
This gentleman it's just amazing playing videogames, I'm blown away by his insights and perspective over things we often don't pay that much attention.
Only tip needed, be patient and observant. Learning the nuances are part of what makes it great. Absolutely amazing game, another 10/10, your people have amazing taste. God bless and enjoy, Sir.
I've never been so excited for someone to play this before! You are in for one hell of a ride Mojave! Still here watching! Hope you and your family are well! :)
I have a few bits of advice. I realize I’m late to the party and by now you’re much further along, but just in case.. 1. This is a stealth game. Very infrequently is fighting / shooting needed, but if you do shoot (or walk fast, making noise) it alerts all the enemies. Play stealthy. Crouch and move slowly when enemies are around, frequently using the “listening” mode to see where enemies are. And always upgrade that listening mode distance. 2. I’ve seen you frequently ask about how to run, or punch, or do other things. All modern games have a “controls” section in the settings, that shows you what all the buttons do. 3. I’ve seen you walk past ammo and crafting supplies etc many times because you’re not looking. In every room or location, search every corner and door and behind cars etc. In any video game where looting and finding supplies/ammo is a thing, the unwritten rule is, once you identify which way the game wants you to go to proceed, go everywhere else first. And remember, the on-screen prompts to pick up things doesn’t show up unless you’re close to the item, and looking directly at it, so you should constantly look around various directions (with the right stick) and walk up close to walls, cabinets, desks etc. This goes for when you’re outside too. 4. Never be without shivs. You can only hold 3, but a shiv is used whenever you open a locked door, or kill a clicker, so watch your bottom right screen icon to make sure you have a shiv and if you don’t, then craft some. 5. Never leave behind anything just because it says “full”, if you can help it. If you can’t pick up ammo, pull up each gun and “reload” to create space in the clip for more ammo.(Don’t worry, the game doesn’t let you discard bullets on the ground). Similarly if you can’t pick up crafting materials, try to craft med kits or shivs etc, to make room in your inventory to pick up the materials. Hope this helps. I’m very much enjoying watching your videos. I’m a 54 year old man. My Dad’s about your age and plays too. It’s a fun hobby, as long as you don’t obsess. Get out and get your needed doses of fresh air, exercise, and human contact too. Haha.
Wow this is GREAT! The Last Of Us is one of my favourite games ever. Glad to see you play it. This game is a masterpiece just like Red Dead Redemption 2
Don't worry! This game was very new for us too. We all struggled with finding loot and getting lost in the puzzles. Biggest tip I can give is to remember the developers use hints like light and yellow to show you where to go next. Sometimes when I got lost - I'd stop, look around, and try to think where I'd expect Joel to go if i was watching a movie. Lastly - don't get discouraged! There's a few areas that I was hopelessly lost in until I googled it. You're a much better player than I could be with my patience
this is the 2022 remake of the 2013 game, it's pretty much the same as the original in every aspect except that the graphics are better. However, it's worth noting the original had some of the best graphics I've seen in game and holds up very well even today, and probably did not need a remake but it's alright because the remake looks great too!
Aww he’s so cute I’ve never seen the elderly even think of touching a game let alone TLOU. I’m so interested to watch his play through. Good luck friend !!❤
I haven’t played this game but I have heard that it’s a really great story game like RDR2, So it’s going to be really fun to watch it for the first time on the best RU-vid channel.
This is a bit of a nitpick, but if you could decrease the size of the subtitles it would be appreciated. This game is so beautiful and uses a very minimal HUD (ammo counts mini maps etc) and the mostly unadulterated view is spectacular.
If we're nitpicking, I have to nitpick the slight echo (especially hearable during dialogues). It's probably due to playing on speakers - which I understand are way more comfortable than headphones, but maybe some mix might be achievable... One episode with, one without them... :D
Mojave I wanna give you some tips. This is a survival game as you can tell, you should manage your ammo and resources well. You can sneak through multiple areas without fighting or without using ammo. There will be optional loot and areas you can find so look around the areas you're in, don't rush through. Items will be highlighted. Listen to the characters or you might miss something. Remember hold R1 to enter listen mode and see enemies through walls. You can grab enemies and use them as body shields. You can also restart an encounter or from a checkpoint if you don't like how you played. I recommend using a mix a melee and ranged attacks, you can shoot someone and then punch them to finish the job. There's also no auto aim from what I know. There will be some problem solving and strategizing so use that brain you got.
Items, doors, or anything else you interact with will have a circle prompt when you're near it and a triangle prompt when you're even closer. You don't need to click on a door a bunch if nothing pops up.
@@mojaved2167There is a BUNCH of accessibility options,so id take a look at those as well as the “tutorials” section on the menu. And there is auto-aim which will make shooting much easier.Joel will automatically lock on,and you can also adjust the strength of it as well if you still want some aim control.
If you listen closely to the infected eating people, you can hear them crying or begging it to stop. They're still conscious and know they're eating people
Been gaming for 30+ years and will happily play on lower difficulties when Im just not feeling it. I’d rather enjoy my limited time in a game than get stuck or frustrated for hours. No shame at all, we’re here for the story.
Im an old man myself. Admittedly not as old as you sir lol I cant imagine that this game made you feel any different then it did me. I almost didnt want to continue after that intro. That hit me something different. First time a videogame, or a movie really, did something like that to me. I think it was because i was actually interacting with it to be honest, rather then just watching you know? Anyway, im here for the ride ol' man. Is this your first videogame experience?
I've never had a Playstation, so I never played this. But I have watched play-throughs of it before, and I have to say, it is the best game I never played. Such a great story, great acting, everything.
@@mojaved2167 yup, games are coming onto screens now. A similar thing happened with Fallout, although it was mostly lore-based rather than game story-based. It's an alright series, but I think it's better to watch after finishing both games. The 2nd season will come next year, so you have some time. Other examples would be The Witcher (based on The Witcher series), or Arcane (animation, based on League of Legends).
@@mojaved2167 YES!! it's a masterpiece and really follows the game well and expands the universe of the game a bit more. I HIGHLY suggest watching it after your playthrough! Maybe a watch party with chat?
WOW! You're actually playing The Last of Us! I remember requesting you to play this when you were still in Chapter 3 of RDR2. I didn't think you would get into the series this early! Although this game isn't open-world like RDR, I promise you the story makes up for it. I remember playing this game back in 2013 and even to this day I can't get past the prologue because it still tears me up. My advice for this game is to *take your time* with the gameplay. It's not like RDR where the action is in your face. You're going need to utilize stealth and the *listening mode* as much as you can. That what makes this game special; since you already noticed how scarce ammo is in this game, you gonna have to think and strategize against the enemies with the limited resources that you have. So don't worry about feeling rushed. Take your time and roam around. look for material for crafting before moving on to the next checkpoint. Slow is smooth but smooth is fast :) I hope you enjoy the game!
Hey MojaveD, if you‘re having a hard time with the aim and with the lack of supplies, try enabling “very light“ as a difficulty. That will enable auto aim and more loot for you to find :D have fun playing this masterpiece!
auto aim does put that white ring around where your shooting and will auto go for the boy shot, and you have to press a button to get a head instead of moving your white dot. auto aim kinda takes away the potential of your shooting
A good tip is that , its not "Open World" like red dead redemption. Its almost like theres 1 path to go. So as long as your not going back the way you came your probably going the right way 😅👍 , love you Mojave D
Hey there. Youre doing a nice job saving ammo. A nice trick is to throw a brick or empty bottle directly on the enemy and finish him with meelee attacks. To do that, you dont need to aim and throw, just hold the item and look at the enemy, there should be a circle on their head and then you just press R2. Followed by runing towards them and tapping square to attack while they are still stunned. This will alert their group, but it will kill most enemies in the game, specially if you're holding a meelee weapon (which breaks in a few hits).
Found this channel a few weeks back, thanks to a RU-vid shorts in portuguese talking good things about you playing Red Dead Redemption 2. I loved your channel, so I watched the whole RDR2 gameplay and just finished the RDR1 yesterday. For real, I’m loving watching you play as nearly a daily routine, and I’m so hyped to watch you play The Last of Us 1, its DLC and 2. Lots of love from Brazil 🇧🇷 ❤
Howdy Mojave One big tip. TAKE YOUR TIME. You dont have to run through the game. Take as much time as you want in an area. Search every nook and cranny for collectibles. Look around and admire the awesome apocalyptic scenery. Take it all in. This is not an open word game like Red Dead. You will only pass by an area once. So enjoy, savor and marvel at one of the most profound gaming experiences ever made. Blessings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Oh how wonderful that you are playing this. The Last Of Us is my favorite game series of all time, I absolutely love both games Part 1 and Part 2 both are exceptional masterpieces. A suggestion I have is that after you finish playing the main game, the main story, next do the DLC called Left Behind it's an additional story chapter located on the main menu screen. Also another thing is they did make a HBO television series adaptation of The Last Of Us in case you wanted to watch it. If you do I recommend waiting until after you complete this game. Thank you good luck sir I wish you the very best take care.
I haven't had this feeling for a long time with Mojave. Last time was with Bladder Gate and RDR2. When it's a game one actually loves, it becomes so much more enjoyable to watch imo
This is a great choice of game Mojave :))) I know you have previously said you aren't too into the whole "zombie" game stuff, but I personally think that a great game in TLOU's line of series is Telltale's The Walking Dead Game Series! A favorite of mine, likewise with RDR Series and I would love to see you play TWDG as well
