Scott Shepard and Troy Baker (OG Joel) deserve around of applause for their performance as David and James. 👏

Bella Ramsey nailed it again. This episode was brutal!

This was a dark episode, but Ellie kicked ass in this one, protecting Joel no matter what.

Such a concentrated amount of evil in one episode - Bella, Pedro and Scott (as David), as well as Troy's cameo, were great! As tragic as it was that Ellie had to suffer this experience, I'm glad she was the one to deliver David's punishment - and that Joel's "Baby girl" was the much-needed comfort afterwards! The interrogation scene was a vivid reminder that Joel can be ruthless, and it was just as memorable as in the game!

There's a reason why people early on were saying "There are worse things out there than the infected"

It’s crazy how in fictional worlds like this with bloaters/clickers/infected the real world things are the most disturbing aspects of it all at the end of the day 🥺

Episode 8 spoiler comment Ellie: "YOURE EATING PEOPLE YOU SICK F" David: "you think it doesn't shame me?" cut to an earlier scene of David "smiling with a happy and content grin on his face" with the biggest plate of "meat", enjoying eating every bite.

I think in most of the reactions I saw, the women picked up on the "weird vibes" much earlier than the men, which is freaking sad.

I liked when Wendy said early in the episode how much she hated David already. I laughed and thought,, "well, I'm guessing your estimation of him is not likely to improve from here."

In "Creator to Creator", Bella Ramsey stated that the Ellie and Joel reunion was shot before the scene where Ellie kills David. If that isn't top notch acting, I don't know what is.

For non-game viewers man the ending of this episode really changes the perspective of a lot of scenes. James wasn't concerned about David's safety when he was leaving to go get the meds. He was concerned about what HE would do to Ellie. Then when they down the horse, they wanted to mercy kill her because once again they knew what David would have done.

Just wait until you see the final episode.

Bella killed it in the episode, she was the MVP in this one and this series did a great job showing you how mess up the humanity were in an apocalypse.

Season 1 covers The Last of Us Part I, Last of Us Part II will be covered in Season 2 and supposedly will be more than one season due to Part II being a long game

Insightful commentary. Thank you. An interesting discussion is the game comparison, I think: This is also very true to the game, but for two major items. It was more implied what David was going to do to Ellie; this hit harder and, on a deeper level, though you have more time in the game to see Ellie and David almost start to trust each other. The other is in the game Joel actually comes in and stops Ellies rampage on David and comforts her. This one I'm actually not sure which is better as they both are great but for different reasons. Thoughts?

I like that you adopt the same "trust no one" strategy I do when it comes to new characters. Makes me feel super smart if they eventually betray our heroes and I can easily ignore the thousand other times I was wrong. By the way, there's no way to know at this point if Ellie can transmit the infection by biting someone. It's not like she's ever tried. And when she rubbed her blood into Sam, he DID get infected. He had already been bitten, but you pointing to that incident as evidence that it doesn't work that way was a misunderstanding on your part.

I think it was pure lucky that they even gave Ellie the medicine because I fully expected them not to. I was also surprised she didn't try to burn the needle to disinfect it while sewing him up but I guess the thread was probably dirty too. Crazy too that it worked. I might have missed something but I don't know where she got the actual syringe from.

😂 yeah, even I thought that definitely wasn't "vennyson" Also, this is definitely my 2nd favorite episode cuz its almost note for note from the game and I was waiting for that "its ok babygirl" moment

Season 1 is just game one. It’s very faithful to the storytelling beats overall. Seasons 2 and 3 (and possibly more?) will be based on Part 2 video game.

I believe season one ended like the game and season 2, is being split into two seasons.

This was the episode I was dreading the most, because if they’ve managed to make the show as dark as they have then how dark were they gonna make the *DARKEST* part of the game. And yeah, they did not hold back. They made David in his last minutes even more disturbing than the game made him. And when David tells Ellie that she has a violent heart he had NOOOO idea. I would honestly put her near the top of the list of the most dangerous people in tv or video games. But that scene of Joel hugging Ellie and calling her baby girl still hits hard. Also I kinda wished that Troy Baker was cast as someone far more important than James. Still he was amazing and he had an awesome death scene.

You should react to teenage kraken

Another episode where I think the game hit the emotional beats a little better than the show. Yes, the creepy moments were just as hard to watch/experience in the game, but in the game, the way Joel comes in to comfort Ellie, and how emotional you get when he calls Ellie baby girl, hit you deep down to your core.

In the show, we don't know if Ellie can infect people. She rubbed her blood on Sam, but Sam was and became infected. That tells us nothing.

i love your guys reactions! but you did missed some things this episode so to clear some things up, so the reason why David was so mad at his guys when they all gathered around Ellie after she fell off the horse was because they were about to kill her and David told them not too. 2. why would an old creepy guy want to keep a young girl around? think hard..to groom.. to rape.. to become his 2nd in command or wife. Or to eat if they got desperate. 3. I think its sad in our world that women can feel and just get vibes from creepy guys and how Wendy picked up on it before Dustin did, and Dustin kept saying i don't get this guy he's weirding me out lol well there is a reason and its called gut instinct.4 and i always love seeing peoples reaction to cannibalism and i always want to ask people what would u do in that situation? starving to death is one of the slowest and painful deaths ever.. to be able to survive you need to eat at least 10% of protein and if they can get that little bit of protein by a horse or deer that's awesome but what if animals were gone and u only had 2 choices.. what would u do? would u starve urself to death? would u give in a eat just a little bit of human meat to just get by or would u kill urself to end it faster? I've always been fascinated about that question because no one really knows what they really would do until they are put in that situation. u can say no i would never but you aren't in that situation now r we lol. i love this show and love ur reactions!

Would have enjoyed the review a lot better if you had left a few of Ellie’s funny scenes in.

I think during these times is very easy to confuse the real bad people like Kathleen and David (I am positive they would be bad with or without an apocalypse. For instance David for instance he says "...the fighting is what i like the most" so? he did this before!) with victims of the circumstances like Henry.. James could be a little more like Joel, although Joel would still be less mean. After killing people Joel needed pills to sleep. Even at those times, just fighting he still needed pills and drink. James felt bad and kind of, i guess, disgusting for eating human flesh, i want to believe that (Troy Baker can not be that mean 😜) But David, he just needed chianti with his human meat. On the other example: Kathleen wanted revenge, for her i think, not justice for his brother. I don't know how Fedra reacted. Bad sure, but worse than they were ?. The fedra officerthat talked to Ellie, in last episode in a way for me was, he correct "without us they will killing each other" they did and Kathleens reigh lasted 11 days , that's it. Perry was wrong, her brother did something, trying to cope with Fedra to keep them alive.

That is why I don't like Marlene either, I think she used the same words, "the other wanted to kill you, I stop them" Everytime someone talks like that, like saying you owe me, I don't trust that, I wonder ¿what do you want me to do for you? well, I am an adult, no poor Ellie.
