Thankyou to all of you so emotional, From an elderly rtd. Soldier of 30 yrs. PROUD SERVICE now in my 80th year of life Thankyou to Lisburn Young Defenders . God Bless you.
I'm sitting here with goosebumps after watching the ceremony and the band playing whilst the wreaths are laid. I feel the emotions all over again I felt the night we went to the Menin Gate on the 1st July 2016 after the service at the Ulster Tower. Simply outstanding.
That was a display of the very best of our culture. Thank you for a well disciplined show, and we'll done that drum major brilliant drill. Faugh a Ballagh
This ceremony never ceases to bring tears to my eyes. To know, to understand what this is truly about is essential, yes its a nice day out but it is a commemoration. In the Ypres salient tens of thousands of men on both sides were slaughtered for no measurable gain, the archway under which this ceremony takes place bears the names of those men of all Commonwealth countries who were killed but whose bodies were never found or could not be identified. There are 54,395 names on the arch. There are more, 34,984 are on the memorial at Tyne Cot. These were just those who's bodies were never found or could not be identified. My Grandfather and his 2 brothers went to war, he was the only one to return. Lest we forget.
