the silliness of treating the word Samurai exclusively as a singular noun. The Last Samurai refers to Katsumoto's whole army practically.
@TheRealmDrifter
@TheRealmDrifter Год назад
@@drlca6601 The movie is available in multiple other languages, and they almost always translate the title as singular, not plural (which is probably a mistake. It's just funny that so many countries mistranslated it if that's the case). Also the poster for the movie says "TOM CRUISE" in the same large font size as "THE LAST SAMURAI" right underneath, so I don't blame people for thinking Tom Cruise is the Last Samurai when the poster looks like that. The marketing seems to have done this deliberately (most of the posters were just Cruise in armor and the title). But yeah, I think it would make more sense and be cooler if the title referred to Katsumoto's whole army instead of just one man.

He is the last Samurai, he is the ultimate warrior and Chieftain of his clan, he is intelligent, disciplined and benevolent, he rescues Tom Cruise, from the battlefield and from his inner demons, and (Spoiler alert) he is the one who makes the ultimate sacrifice for his way of life. @Sarnatuile
@Sarnatuile Год назад
@@mikebrown1926 Just because you consider them good men, doesn't mean they consider that themselves. The whole idea is that human can struggle with killing, even if it's acceptable and in war. You can still feel guilt, shame etc of taking another mans life. We do not see honor in death the way the samurai do in this movie. For them it's a literal honor to die by the sword, in combat. Being fully convinced killing another is something good. That's probably what they mean.

@mikebrown1926 the ones with honest and big hearts have nightmares for the things they HAD to do to save their brothers and themselves. The good hearted men never went to war to hurt and kill but to save and protect. I've met many veterans that I can tell are good people but they have sad eyes. It's heartbreaking.

ich befasse mich seit 1995 mit Native Americans und alles was ich gelesen habe war ein Schock und zerfetzte meine Vorstellungen von den USA und dies hier ist mit Abstand der wichtigste und beste Tom Cruise Film wie er selbst sagte
