The Last Stone Splitters

70 years old man and his son splitting stone (granite) for our new workshop foundations. They are the last know stone splitters in our region.
People should support their local economy and local community. They can do this by gathering local natural building materials (such as stone, clay, wood, lime, sand). They can do this by hiring local craftsmen (meaning supporting their families) to split the rocks, carpenters to build the log walls and roofers to put the slate or shingle roof on. They should do this instead of buying imported man made building materials in a store, paying unknown corporations and companies and hiring expensive construction company workers to put all this crap together.
That is why we have crisis in our economy, because we have a crisis in our narrow minded minds and we have become blind to see what our ancestors saw, what they built and how they lived… That is why our countryside is dying and the craftsmen along with it, because we support corporations and their brain washing machine when we should be supporting each other.

Back in the day, The stone scotts would come thru virginia and split hundreds of tons in a day and lay up stone buildings the next day. All of their structures are still standing proud.

I actually desire to construct a home for myself using these age old methods. I'm getting a career in agriculture, so hard labor is going to be normal for me in the coming years. What's good, though, is that in my region these kinds of rocks are actually normal! Thanks for the inspiration, Northman. Keep up the good, strong fight.

Awesome ! Talented and dead accurate on the second blow. I'd loved to had tried it in my younger days. In 1958 I hand drilled holes in some big rocks. Drill holes in a line, when winter arrives, pour water in the holes, and a good freeze will crack it in two. The learning curve was tough; Blisters on both hands, aching arm, back, and what's worse, I was a teenager. Fun helping my family together building our cabin though.

Well stone me ( forgive the pun) this man must have been doing this all his life. A work of passion that has clearly not left him. He is fit & healthy, perhaps sending a few men in their thirties to a boot camp of this nature is the solution for all those overweight & lazy layabouts; the modern generation are pretty much all namby pambies. Great music & more importantly a great man in more ways than one. Very well done. Kind regards.

Came for the video, read the description, and now I'm all amped up about the way world is going down the s pipe. I keep telling people we've lost ourselves. It's strange how we use products and have never even seen the plant grow that makes it. I bet you that if 5 photos of plants were put in front of a smoker they couldn't point out the tobacco plant. Pot heads that have never touched an actual plant or grown their own. We eat chickens everyday yet people are literally scared of them and think they are dirty.. God i love me some chic fa le
