✨💎 You got it, Chief. Perfectly expressed. I was too small to see them in concert back then, but I did grow up listening to them. Especially _Take A Load Off Fannie/ The Weight,_ most of all. You've just spoken for hundreds of thousands of people who were fortunate enough to experience Levon & his crew, back in the 70's & the 80's. God Bless You; may you have peace, always 💜

Robbie stole Levon’s money and left him having to continue to make music to make ends meet until his tragic passing. Robbie claimed all of the royalties and Levon was a young, naive kid from the south new to the music industry he had to know idea the concept of royalties and song writing credits. You think Robbies knows about a cripple creek or the night they drove ol Dixie down and all the farm lingo? Or is it possible the drummer from Arkansas who also sings your best songs is the one who wrote those lyrics? Robbies mic was turned off too btw … joke

I couldnt agree more. I was a child at that time, too young to see them in concert. But decades later here it is on RU-vid. Levon Healm is terrific! Being a musician myself, though, to me the best part is seeing how he & Rick, Richard, & Robbie are all really putting their _GUTS_ into the vocals; every one of them. I could never think of these men as a rock band. This is as soulful as real Soul Music will ever be, they just happen to be one White American, with White Canadians. And to have Mavis Staples & her sisters (plus an unnamed Black gentleman, too) for _Take A Load Off Fannie_ is absolutely capitol... the very best of the best 🎼🎸🎤 I can't tell you what it does for me to see Mavis Staples & the Staples Sisters performing, in their 30's & in their prime 🥲

I literally was born & raised on A Cripple Creek in Kittrell, Tennessee. The old `crick runs thru my granddad's land out behind the barn. When I was a kid hearing these beautiful songs on the radio I honestly thought they were singing about our creek. That same land, I was told, once belonged to Bluegrass legend & Grand Ole Opry founder, Uncle Dave Macon. My whole family played bluegrass & old-time gospel music but, I just became a block-headed drummer. Nothing but love for The Band and everyone here enjoying this wonderful song.

Out of the hundreds of concerts that I have attended, the best show that I can recall, was, without question, The Band, in 1996 @ The House of Blues/Sunset Strip. I was completely amazed and enamored as I watched these legendary performers switching positions, flawlessly, and without skipping a beat. After the show, a friend and I walked out front, right on to their bus, like we belonged there, and all of the men, including their driver, were as kind as could be. I still have the ticket stub with Garth's autograph on it. I was walking around in awe, for days, at what I though was a special kind of perfection that I had not seen before, or since. I will never forget that very special evening.

The true voice of American music in my opinion! 1million percent effort, every time! Robbie Robertson is on record as saying Levon Helm's vocals and drumming is completely authentic throughout the entire Last Waltz video! Nothing has been tweaked or corrected later on . We played the song over and over without knowing who were the singers. We just enjoyed the song. Later on, I did some research on the song and found out that the band was called the Band and the lead singer was Levon Helm. I found out that Levon was an American and Robert Robertson, the lead guitarist was Canadian. I fall in love with the Band, especially this song. I still listen to it now. You need to listen to a story told by Robert Robertson about Bob Dylan and how they toured together. It is a wonderful story.

I was supposed to go to this concert but came down with mono. My friends went, Thanksgiving 1976. I was a junior in HS in NYC. We were all going to say we were sleeping over each other's houses, get on a flight to SF, see the show, go right back to the airport and come home. I would have been grounded until I was 40 (deservedly) and it would have been completely worth it. I've since seen every member of the Band live except for Richard Manuel. Levon was a lovely man, kindness personified. RIP Levon, Rick, Richard.

I'm listening to this, one of the songs I heard many times in my youth, while walking to a convenience store near my house in Tacoma, on August 9, 2023, the day the writer of the song is reported to have passed away. Well, he was 80, so it's not unusual, but still it does occasion some grief, some acknowledgement of the inexorable passing of time. Come to think of it, August 9 was the same day Jerry passed away, never again to produce divine music, 28 years ago.

This concert film was released back in 1978 but it is such good quality it seems like HD quality. The filmmakers deserve respect and kudos. It was filmed in from a 1976 concert and the quality is ad good any thing produced today in 2022. Ahead of its time indeed.
