Hey Paul thanks for the video, I was wondering if you could do one on lapidary equipment for beginners. I was also hoping you could cover how to find a trustworthy person to cut gems. Thanks again Paul!
Great information! I am currently into jadeite. What are your best suggestions where to buy quality jadeite? Be it rings, pendants or bangles... I am limited in budget to under $3,000
If you want to buy semi precious stones the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is a must. The best place is Jaipur India. Most of what ends up in Tucson probably passed through Jaipur India. It is where most cabochons are cut and polished. The deals there are the best. Lower than US wholesale, lower than any gem and mineral show. At the end of the day semi precious and precious is only really worth what clients are willing to pay for it. Try and sell an engagement ring. Yo will figure it out. You may only get the price of the gold. Keystone price is 60% below retail. Never pay retail for stones.
Hi Paul. Could you make a video on tax and importation with gems? Do you have your pay tax every single time you go to trade shows to sell? Also great videos btw! Thank you.
I have many many beautiful pyrope garnet in all sizes and a few clear stones I believe to be sapphire mabe diamonds all from the garnet ridge area on Navajo nation how would I find a buyer for these gems
Hey, I'm trying to sell 2 natural rubies for quite some time now. The two are both from Mozambique and 7ct & 10.1ct and both are untreated. What avenue for selling would you recommend? I'm from austria and the local jewelers all say they don't have the liquidity to buy off me and would only take them under commission which sounds shady to me.
Hello Paul Deasy! I spelled your name RIGHT this time! Yeehaw! Anyway, I was wondering if you could do a show about SPHENE!! 🎉 I LOVE SPHENE!! SUCH a BEAUTIFUL STONE!!! later!!

hey paul... i have some stones and agates and slabs that need to be polished but cant find anyone that'll do it .... i went to a few jewlery stores and they said they dont do stuff like that which i thought was odd..... any tips on who i can go to or send stuff out to?? im in new jersey
Hi Johnny, great question. First I would locate a rock shop in your area, not a jewelry store. Most jewelry stores by their gems from wholesalers as they are already ready to set. There may even be a club of like-minded enthusists who form a club for that activity. In my very early years as a host on the shopping channels, I met a guy who showed me some fantastic garnets. He was not a jeweler. He cut them all himself. I was amazed. He researched it and taught himself to do it. Search in your local area if such a club might exist. Some continuing education classes at universities might even have classes. Good Luck!
Hi Sir, I'm from Philippines. I have some interesting gemstone here. Im collecting stones for 5years now and ive decided to sell my collection. I believe i have topaz, carbonado and meteorite, that's according to my research. Thanks
Hey paul , can you introduce me some customers who want to buy panjshir Emeralds in US or other countries, now i am locating in Afghanistan , I have panjshir Emeralds in different colors and with different weights ,Thanks
It's a complicated topic. It's a market place. Your product is only worth what people will pay to a given location. Find locations like websites, markets and local makers.
Paul, again! I forgot to ask you that question! What credentials are required to get into the wholesale section of the Tucson gem show? The 25¢ on the dollar section? Or the 10¢ in the dollar section? I'm being serious 🎉😅
Great question, Christine. First of all, I should mention that there are many shows in Tucson that don't require credentials at all. However, in order to get the wholesale advantage of both a better price but also enjoying a sales tax exemption as well. As for the credentials required for the shows like AGTA , JCK, Jogs show, etc, you need a business card, Driver's license (or equivalent ID, and a Tax id number. The tax iid number is required because it allows the vendors to sell it to you without charging you tax on the transaction. The reason is that you are in the gem or jewelry business, and you are going to be reselling the item to your customers and the tax willl be clollected at that time. But rest assured. There are many shows/vendors that do not require you have credentials. And there are always deals to be had!
What I do not understand is I find natural not lab grown gems like blue sapphires selling for $50 wholesale then similar ones by big dealers are $1000+
