A century ago, the "manufacture, sale or transportation, importation or exportation" of alcohol was strictly forbidden throughout puritanical America. The policy left an indelible mark across the United States. Nine decades after the end of the Prohibition era, which lasted from 1920 to 1933, some states and towns in the United States still remain "alcohol-free". Our correspondent Fanny Allard reports.

In Santa Monica, California, there is an Italian Deli called Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery that makes some of the best sandwiches. It is family owned and has been family owned since and the story behind it in the 1920s, the grandfather ran into trouble with Al Capone bootleging ring and had to run to California for his life. I know that is a small legacy of prohibition, but when I saw this vid, that is the first thing that popped to mind.

We have awful state liquor stores in Pennsylvania. After Prohibition ended our Government instituted the Liquor Control Board. You even have to go to a state store to get a bottle of wine for Passover. It's nuts. The prices are high and the selection is limited. We still have moonshiners here and Speakeasys actually still exist in Pennsylvania. So it never really ended in Pennsylvania. You can't buy a bottle in my town but you can buy drugs. Crazy.
