Who else but Ragnar would have such an epic career? It's like it was pre-ordained by the fates. The omnibus is definitely worth a read if anyone hasn't yet. Perhaps one day he will lead the chapter, but this is not that day and until it comes, he has plenty of time to slay Xenos for Russ and the All Father

I do think if Russ returns, Grimnar will perish for whatever reason and Ragnar will be the Chapter Master. Seems like a matter of time to me, especially with how Grimnar seems to charge head first into battle all the time.

Being a Space Wolves and Orks player, I was thrilled when it was finally announced that Ghazghkull and Ragnar were gonna face off and get new models. Two of the most savage fighters in the galaxy, going fang to power klaw, is the kind of match up I wanted to see even if the outcome was obvious and it really broke up the tediousness of the Space Wolves rivalry with the Thousand Sons plus Ghaz and Armageddon.

Unrelated question - you previously discussed what would have happened if Guilliman or Lion would have made it to Terra...but what if another primarch (or two) would have joined Imperium Secundus? For example, what if Magnus had decided to become a "loyalist" and joined Ultramar? None of the three primarchs in Maccrage were following the Edict of Nicea. Lion didn't like Russ, so maybe would have sided with Magnus. Similarly, what if the Khan had gone to Ultramar instead? I get the feeling that the Emperor was the lesser of two evils and, had he felt like he could, the Khan would have been happy to leave both the Emperor and Horus to fight it out on their own. What if he would have headed to Imperium Secundus instead? Would he have pushed Guilliman to secede from the Imperium?

@sebastianhovenas272
@sebastianhovenas272 Год назад
@@Kristian.B.Kristiansenindeed, he only lost because he went easy on Ragnar. Wierd how Rho didn't mention that part, it is pretty obvious when you read about it. Ghazghkull Thraka Prophet of the WAAAGH - chapter 11 - page 199 and 200 right after ragnar choped off Ghazghkulls head. "So this is death is it? I've had worse. I need not die. Not if i do not will it. My enemies did not die when i took their heads. Nor when i took them again. Not because they were tough. Because you did not will it. Because i did not will it. Now, i wish for death. If i did not i would not bear this wound. But what comes next; this thing that you have shown me... it is vast. It is great and violant and sacred. I will have it for myself. You showed me where to carve the path, and here, in this place, is where it narrows. This thin curtain, this death, is all that stands in my way. How frail it is. I will tear it down. I will breach its gates, as i have breached every gate before me. I will tear down its walls, as i have torn down all walls. But conquest has made my body strong. Too strong now, i see. The blood clings to my veins, and it will not cool fast enough. It defies me. So i snarl, and my anger finds voice where i should have none. If my blood will not cool, then it will burn, and i will go to you in flames. Page 200 I am moved, now. My head, held up by the hand of my enemy. It regards me, as it lifts my remains, and i regard it in turn. There is triumph in its face. This thing thinks it knows victory, in defeating me! It thinks it knows power. But for all the plate it wears, for all that had been done to make it into a thing of war, it is vermin. I study the bones beneath its skin. I see how its body is gnarled and swollen. How its whole self has been made, in the hope that it might hold out to the stars in the name of a dead god. It is a vain hope. Those stars will burn green, in the end. The vermin is dying, i see, even with such mild wounds. It is like a joke, i think, as it bares its feeble tusks. Like a poor copy of an ork, twisted together from the parts of a weaker beast. But you made us right the first time. Not even the primarchs, the peak of their dead god's work, could be as perfect as the lowest part of the great green. The anger swells, now, as the vermin holds my head up in the broken temple. And i think. That i had to die today... annoys me. But why could it not have been a primarch? That fight, i would have relished. I crave that fight. But i cannot have it, and it makes the embers of my anger glow white with rage". Plus there is this too... Ghazghkull Thraka Prophet of the WAAAGH - chapter 10 - page 188 Makari's point of view of Ghazghkulls fight with Ragnar "Beset from all sides, your Prophet detonated a great store of munitions hidden in the walls, so as to cut both himself and his opponent off from the support of their warriors. He knows he must fight this combat alone. Because he has had a vision. You were there. It was his greatest vision yet, and his most violent, seizing his body as if the gods themselves had him in their jaws. He came round from it knowing that this fight was destined; that it was the narrowing he had to pass through, in order to bring about the flourishing of your Great Green. Ghazghkull Thraka Prophet of the WAAAGH - chapter 10 - page 189 Makari's point of view of Ghazghkulls fight with Ragnar. "The prophet curls his lips back from fangs as long as your arms, and in a voice as thick and black as the spilled hydraulic fluid at his feet, he taunts Blackmane in the tounge of men. 'Finish this.' It is a command for an ending' but the ork who speaks for the gods sounds more as if he is impatient for something to begin. Ghazghkull Thraka Prophet of the WAAAGH - chapter 10 - page 191 Makari's point of view after Ghazghkulls death. "Your vision is fading fast. But before it goes entierly, you see one last vision as you gaze involuntarily up the steps of the dias. Ragnar is standing shakily on the ruin of the prophet, with a ghastly rent in his chest. He is swaying, barely keeping his feet beneath him. In one hand, he holds aloft the head of Ghazghkull Thraka. And before the green rises up from the black to take you, you see that your master's tusks are set in a great, triumphant grin, and you know that all will be well.

1. William King is one of the few BL authors (ex now, I guess) I respect, mainly because of Gotrek and Felix. Ragnar is a decent character, when written by someone decent. 2. Ragnar defeating Gaz was basically the hacks working for GW asking themselves “how can we cater to the marine fanboy community this time? Let’s get Ragnar defeat Gaz but in a way so nothing really happens”. 3. In order to complete the mess Ragnar became a Primaris and Gaz gained a new body… iirc Ragnar decided not to have a rematch with Gaz because he had become way more powerful so he opted to try dropping a space station on his head (because the in game explanation for the new models was accomplished so there was no need for more story, basically)

He's clearly the strongest non chapter master non psyker in the Astartes to me. Beats Ghaz, with only a single Relic and every other piece of equiptment is standard issue power armor, bolt pistol etc. And he's a non primaris at the time. All i'm saying is give Blackmane Artificer Armour, A relic pistol and i'm sure he'd give a handful of Chapter Masters a run for their money. Belial with a relic sword, Master crafted Storm Bolter and termie armor that I believe has fragments of the Emperor's Armor took a beat from Ghaz. I believe when Russ comes back Ragnar will become Chapter Master.

@@Kristian.B.Kristiansen Ghaz throwing the fight was not implied at all in his monologue or in any of his dialogue in the Saga of the Beast audiobook. Quite the opposite when he expressed his rage that his own blood clung to his veins and refused to cool and when Grotsnik tried to intervene. Ghazghkull is a fighter to the very end, as the ultimate Ork should be, since Orks are made for fighting and GW’s writing has suggested nothing less. Everything else is correct about him setting up the fight and his faith being rewarded when he died but he isn’t Orkoid Jesus, just turning the other cheek, until he’s slain. He was fated to fight and die, so he faced it on his own terms rather than run from it.

Here he is mocking Ragnar several times for his weakness, and that it thinks it is victorious. For gods sake he even calls him vermin, does that sound like a warrior regarding another warroir of their equal? Especially when that warrior is an ork. Plus there is this too... If Ghazghkull did not want to die, and wanted to kill Ragnar, then why would he roar at Ragnar to finish the fight? To me that can only indicate that he is tired of his duel with Ragnar, and that he has not finished Ghazghkull off already. Why else would he say this with anticipation? He knows that he must die on Krongar, as he himself said, and he also knows that Ragnar must be the one to kill him, something he is very frustrated with, since he would much rather fight and die to a primarch. Of course beeing the loyal and faithfull Prophet that he is hw allows Ragnar to slay him, though obiously not letting the young wolf do so without getting a good beating himself, even if it is a very mild beating to Ghazghkulls standards. Finally, he knows that if Ragnar should kill him on Krongar, then the Great WAAAGH!!! can finally begin. @@LysimedVenteel that checks out. I wonder if they will pull anyone out of a dreadnought to cross the rubicon- or just move the coffins into larger primaris chassis.

Eh, new Ghazghkull model dropped so it wasn’t that much of an L and Ghazghkull definitely got stronger since then. Profit of the Waaagh! seems to be hinted at fighting Angron so he’s moved up the ladder by a bit clearly

I dislike Ragnar. Not Ragnar himself but what he does to the Wolves. Admittedly the Blackmane series was a decade or two old when I started 40k but I had an opinion on Space Wolves lore before I read them and that opinion was that their biggest weakness was their ability to make their own allies hate them - reminded me of the Transformer’s Dinobots. Ragnar consistently makes friends out of the Wolves’ grievances and I’m not fond of that.

Possibly but doubtful beyond just driving Ghazghkull off. Ghaz has been bumped to the big leagues now, so the only Custodes with a real chance would probably be Valdor.

ragnars legacy is plot armor. without it ghazkull would have absolutely mercd him. 9 times out of 10. but thats typical gw writing. xenos are there to be beaten and make space marines look good. dont actually look at the stats and abilities, just look at this story of him efforlessly defeating 1000s of xenos. dont look up how strong those xenos are. dont think about how actual combat works, just space marine good, look how many xenos they beat. no this is nothing like the tabletop, because if it was the game would be unbalanced as shit.

The whole "Crossing the Rubicon" is a pretty weird term for the transformation into a Primaris. Yes, it means point of no return. But, the original "point of no return" was Caesar committing treason by crossing the Rubicon and usurping the Republic. I mean, I would love it if the Primaris Marines were a Trojan horse instigated by Cawl to overthrow the Imperium and institute a Republic but that's kind of on the nose.
