Before an enthusiastic on-track crowd, California Chrome put on a show in his first start at the track where he has trained since January, 2014 in the $180,000 Winter Challenge Saturday at Los Alamitos on December 17, 2016.
I have to say it again. This was such a great day to see Chrome, his final race in Cali and even though they paid whatever horse who entered $10,000, it's the only way Chrome could have a real race FOR HIS FANS on HIS track at Los Alamitos. Such a great day. That track is for Quarter Horse racing. So this was a special day. For all the TB's who train on that track. Was a fantastic day.
Was a work out for Chrome. Was a hand ride the whole way for Victor. Chromes track he trained on for 3 years.....he knows how to do the work outs. LOL It's great seeing Victor and Chrome in serious races. Boy I will miss that. BUT Chromes next phase 2 of his career is even better. Looking forward to his babies being trained by Team Sherman. LOL AND I read Faversham , Chromes full little bother will go to Shermans in March for training. Now THIS will be great. I can't wait. GO CHROME. I hope the cards play in Chromes favor in the Pegasus and ALL horses in that darn race have a SAFE trip. Go Chrome. Win or lose, I don't even care. LOL I'ts a blast to see him run and that wll be his last race. I just want to watch HIM stride. I hope none of the others get in my view. LOL
Wow California Chrome Great win for the team just amazes me in track record time ,so proud to be a Chromie ,can't wait for the next race rematch against that speedy Arrogate horse youngster . Go California Chrome and beat Arrogate horse in track record time in the Pegasus World Cup in Jan . 2017 and go out on top ! Safe trip , travels and racing luck !!!!!
We all pray the cards will play in Chromes favor for that stupid Pegasus race. BUT he has nothing to prove. Arrogate, next year, will have one hell of a year and I bet he races twice and then is lamed out for the summer. LOL Looking forward to seeing Chrome retire and romp around in his paddock and roll in his personal sand pit after the Pegasus. He'll be one happy boy for sure. Seeing Chrome happy is all we fans want. I hope Victor lets him go and never looks back in the Pegasus. NO waiting for the others.....just GOOOO. Like the Pacific Classic. Wooohooo that was a thriller. Chrome is amazing WHEN they let HIM have the reins. ;)
This race was created for the purpose of C.C. getting a tune-up in front of his home crowd for the Pegasus...C.C. nothing but class and I wish him the best next month in his finale...I honestly don't feel he can beat Arrogate, but that's just a testament to how good Arrogate is and how great, he too, will be
They did their best not to embarress the other horses...he was 5 wide and Victor never asked him...he just swept on by(pace way too slow for him) ....I am still mounring the loss of seeing him run...the most fabulous horse I ever had the pleasure (and most fun ever) of following...always always love California Chrome

super performance, he could have broken the track record if that, dumb jokey would have tried.. if he had a different jokey he also would have had a better career
This was a prep for the Pegasus and the world record would have been nearly 2 seconds faster. It would have been foolish to push him that hard in this race when there's $7 million on the line in the next one.
