I don't know if the story of *Queen Ndate Yalla Mbodj,* the last Queen of the Waalo female kingdom (Waalo kingdom in the 11th century) has been covered on this channel, but before the invasion of the French and Arabs was one of the strongest kingdoms in what is now Senegal, there is the mention of the strong female army that fought the French off until they were defeated. Just 150 years ago, In 1820, under the lead of *Queen Fatim Yamar Khuri Yaye Mbodj,* the Waalo female warriors _defeated the Moors_ who took advantage of the absence of the King and the male army. The Moors were surprised and embarrassed after they were defeated by young female warriors who only showed that they were women after defeating the Moors.
@vnorm2907
@vnorm2907 3 года назад
So who are the Moors, and where are they from. Using the name "Moor" doesn't tell us anything. Moor was just a name that described many different groups of Blacks in Al-Andalus. These different African people were from Kano, Sokoto, the Gambia, Mali, and as far away as the Sudan. There was never a people called "Moors" . The name Moro was what the Spanish called the Blacks that conquered them on 711ad.

Typically I don't respond to such abject ignorance as espoused by *Twelve Kingdoms / Seikishi,* as one can't fix inbreed hate. Here I will make an exception, primarily for anyone that seeks documented history. "On the death of Brak Quli Mbaba Diop in 1816, his cousin Linguere Fatim Yamar Khuri Yaye Mbodj succeeded him and decided to install her husband Amar Fatim Borso as Brak of Waalo. This was the first time a Linguere was also the wife of a Brak. The Linguères are always prepared to lead their people militarily and politically. They received training in arms and they knew how to defend the kingdom in the absence of men. In 1820, the ‘Brak’ (king/ruler) of Waalo and his envoy were on an official business attending to community traditional functions in ‘Ndar’ aka ‘Sor’ when the neighbouring tribe took advantage of his absence and attacked the capital but an army of led by Fatim Yamar herself came to the rescue, defeating the invaders who happened to be the Moorish dissidents. After the battle, which saw the army retreat and some captured, Fatim Yamar’s army surprised the attackers and everybody by taking off their armour/uniform to show that they were indeed women and not men. The defeated army returned home but their pride having been beaten by women was severely bruised." The above is referenced from historical and PHYSICAL letters kept both at National Archives of Senegal 13 G 91 Correspondence of the Kings of the Waalo Letter number 95 received by the Governor of Saint Louis on February 27th, 1851 Moreover, all female armies were not uncommon in West Africa. Dahomey Amazons, witnessed and documented by *European writers,* were a an all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey in the present-day Republic of Benin which lasted until 1904. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahomey_Amazons And there is physically recorded witness testimony (on wax records) in the 1920's by a one of the last Slaves brought to the U.S. on the slave ship Clotilda (which was recently found in the waters of the Mississippi), whose native name was Kossola, and whos _Captive name_ was Cudjo Lewis as documented in the book Barracoon by Zora Neale Hurston. Kossola, recounted his capture at age 19 by all-female Dahomey Amazon warriors.
@vnorm2907
@vnorm2907 3 года назад
@@shotelco I think what he was saying was it was not a female Army , but a female part of the Army. In the comments you posted a female Regiment. A Regiment is about 1,000 to 5,000 soldiers. A Division is much larger about 10,000 to 25,000 soldiers, and an Army is about 100,000 to 300,000 soldiers. So yes they did have elite female soldiers, but they were a small part of a much larger male Army. He is correct also about having babies, if to many die in battle the population would need to be replaced. After the Korean War they lost so much population that they requested for men to have two wives to help replace the population that was killed.

That there were legendary African women warriors goes way back into the history of Africa. It was therefore not surprising that Garifuna women fought side-by-side with Garifuna men as they defended themselves from total annihilation, which led to their deportation from St.Vincent, in 1797. Garinagu trace their ancestry to Mali, West Africa. Their forebears, according to well reknowned scholar of African History, Dr Van Sertima, were members of an expedition decreed by Emperor Abu Bukari II, who arrived at St Vincent about 200 years before Columbus, circa 1305--1310.

Hotep Home Team, as this subject is approached from a notional stand point in stating what has been written and said about Afrikan women warriors in the diaspora, I don’t believe that the possibility of women moor warriors would be off the mark in its entirety. In fact, I would venture to think that some implicit bias plays a role in the questionable way that not only the research may have been done by naysayers, but also by the Eurasian need for narrative displacement in order to hide obvious truths. This can be seen in and out of the diaspora of our people and the impact we have had on the planets true history. With that said, I tend to believe that there were indeed moor women warriors as our women have shown a propensity to not just embrace the equality of men to women, but lead the charge in leadership, defense, and the creation of civilization. I would not expect Vikings and their descendants to acknowledge the significance, let alone the fact that the ice people had female soldiers in their ranks. The main difference is that vikings always saw their female counterparts as objects and of less value than them. Whereas in the history of female Moors, their downplay came from the decendants of those same ice people who sought to hide the truth of our African history including but not limited to the African femine principle (with the help of African males tainted by the eurasian encounters/entanglements). In either case, viking or Moor, fragile men cringe at the fact that the feminine principal of the universe is more enlightening and powerful than toxic masculinity any day. @@adriansheldon2296 Yeah. I would have to push back on that a little as I have no doubt that women could prove themselves worthy in comparison to men in any case. But the viking women were still subjects at best. In the Moor women warrior situations, they were also leaders (generals in rank). Thus proving again the leadership quality of Black women in history. Vikings were barbarians, and acted accordingly. I have no doubt, according to factual history that viking women could assimilate in war. I think that the so called "ideas of history" were His-Story and not the truth. "He who controls the printed page, controls the thinking of the age". In other words, the deception is typical.

2023, Our history, cultural, and identity have been modified to accommodate the regentrification of countries which is genocide. Just like the name Cujo was used to depict a Mad Dog in a movie. When Cujo was actually at African warrior that was defeating the Roman army. The Roman army use Cujo tactic in order to defeat him. Fact or Fiction. "Fact" Many people are unaware it was a black woman who designed the GPS for the submarine. I have no doubt these Black Woman Warriors existed.

@brixcosmo6849
@brixcosmo6849 Год назад
@@bambooqueue9093 Who's "they"!? Portuguese are a multiethnic and multicultural society. Skin colors don't exist for us. We don't have races on our IDs nor do we refer to People by their skin color or religion. We are all educated under a premiss/law that states a simple thing "Todos Diferentes, Todos Iguais" ("All Different, All Equal"). You can see it our Football National Team. You can see it Cristiano Ronaldo, Cancelo, Daniela Melchior, Daniela Ruah, Sara Sampaio or Nelly Furtado. If you go back to our birth as a Kingdom in 1143 to 15th Century people in the North (Porto) were Visigoths and People in the South (Lisboa, Alentejo, Algarve) were "Mouros" (as in "Moors", "Mauri", "Mauro"). And that's how people in the North call us to this day. Not offensive at all. We're proud of it! We call them "Tripeiros". It's Natural rivalray between the two biggest cities. So my mom is Moorish my father is Mozambican-Portuguese born and raised in Alentejo. I'm tanned all year but i do not look like i'm African 'cause my nose, lips, hair are Persian/Arabic looking like my mom. Search for João Vaz Corte-Real a famous navigator in 15th Century from my maternal family. You'll understand better. But as said we don't do that Black, White, Yellow, Melanated, Olive labelling. Who gives a F. about that in 2023! My maternal grandma is 98yo. She was never racist, nor my parents and much less my generation 1980. In Portugal everyone listens and dances to Kizomba, Kuduro, Semba, Morna, Salsa, Samba and eats Feijoada, Muamba and Catchupa.

@@brixcosmo6849The Moors doesn't Necessarily mean barber or north african it's Refer to arabs too. Matter of fact most of the andalusians were actually arabs, barbers were minority. Also the name Moors after that used to refer to muslims like how spain called the filipinos moors when they tried to invade them
@brixcosmo6849
@brixcosmo6849 10 месяцев назад
@@phoenixk4328 Exactly! For Roman "Moors" where the Phoenicians (Carthaginian Empire) and the Amazighs (Berbers) of the Maghreb Region of North Africa. For us Portuguese "Muslims Moors" where the Arabs, Amazighs (Berbers), Persians and Syrians that the Ummayad Caliphate (Arabs) brought to North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula after emerging in Arabia, Conquering all Arabia, Mesopotamia, Levante and North Africa in the 7th Century AD. What we learnt to call the Ummayad conquest of Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) was made by the Umayyad Caliphate, Almoravids, Almohads, Nasrids. To the influences left in Portugal we call them Arabic Influences. Although if we talk abouth Architecture that type of Architecture is called Islamic Architecture. At least in work field. I'm a Portuguese Architect. Moor is English. For us Portuguese is Mouro, in Spanish is Moro, in Italian Mauro/Maurus/Mauri and so on so on. Is a vague term can refer to color of skin... dark skin... not necessarily black... for us Portuguese it doesn't mean Black... ot means Moreno... It can also refer to ethnicities/civilizations like the ones mentioned. It depends on the Era, who used it... and to who they were refering to... Originally the name Maurus had to do with Mauretanea something a Province of the Roman Empire in Morocco and Algeria. Not really Mauritania tge Country. But People in the Maghreb Region of North of Africa in Roman Era when the Roman Empire occupied the Iberian Peninsula and conquered Carthage to the Phoenicians in 146BC weren't the same People that existed there in 7th-8th Century when the Umayyad Caliphate brought thousands of Arabs, Persians and Syrians to the North of Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. We normally say that we were conquered by Arabs. Cause those were Arabic Kingdoms or Sultanates/Caliphates. At least in the Ummayad Caliphate and the Nasrids were. As were the Nizari from Syria. The one's that controlled the Castle of Masyaf in Syria. Home to the Order of the Assassins as we see in Assassins Creed. But those were Ismaili Muslim and i don't know if should call them Arabs or Syrians nor do i really know of they also came to the Iberian Peninsula or that's just part of the movie 'cause they were cool Warriors. I believe Nizari and Umayyad Caliphate were different type of Muslim and didn't get along. Religions are not my forte. I'm not Religions at all. But my Family has Moorish Ancestry. From Algarve (South Portugal). We're Morenos like Cristiano Ronaldo and his Wife. Kinda Arabic/Lebanese/Syrian something like that. In the Process of the Reconquista in Portugal thousands of Muslim Moors gave up without a fight and embraced the new Kingdom Portugal and the Christian Religion. They were called "New Christians". The same with Sephardic Jews communities. Portugal was born out of the guts of that occupation in 1143 and defeated the Muslim Moors in Portugal in 1249. 106 years. Spanish only defeated them in 1492 when the last Sultanate of the Nasrids fell. The Sultanate of Granada where tge Fortress/Palace of Alhambra is situated. One of my favorite pieces of Islamic Architecture. That tells you a lot about the developments of the Arabs in 12th-13th Century. We also have the Castle of Moors in Sintra, Lisbon built around 8th-9th Century but in a more like Roman Fortress style of Castle. I guess that was build my Almoravids and Alhambra that were Kingdoms born in Morocco/Argelia so they were more familiarized with Roman Architecture. Alhambra is different. Much more detail. Just like the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon that Portuguese built in 1500. One of the best pieces of Portuguese Architecture to this day. And of tge World in that Era. Like the Batalha Monastery and others. We keant a lot from that occupation. That ended up to be a blessing for both Portugal and Spain. We have are own merits obviously in the Age of Discovery but that influence was very important and is treasured in both Portugal and Spain. All ancient Civilizations learnt from eachother. So Visigoths, Celts, Romans, Phoenicians, Arabs, Amazighs, Persians, Syrians, Jews add layers to our own culture/ethnicity. The Age of Discovery made us even more Multiethnic and Multicultural 'cause we incorporated people from all over the World. Japan, China, Indonesia, Malasya, India, Africa, Brasil. ❤️🇯🇵🇨🇳🇲🇾🇮🇳🇪🇹🇲🇿🇦🇴🇬🇼🇸🇹🇨🇻🇲🇦🇵🇹🇧🇷
