I worked the Summer of 1972 in Yellowstone. I heard all the Mountainman stories in Yellowstone. Then saw this movie and loved it. Good job Redford.

1973 was going off to the Army took my girlfriend to a drive in movie can't remember what the first movie was, but thought I would get me a little farewell treat. when Jeremiah Johnson started both of us were glued to this movie when it started

The scene you are talking about is one of the greatest realistic bushwacker scenes in any movie. The chaos, the struggle. Almost as much effort went into playing the fight as one might expect in a life or death scenario just to make it believable. Stuntmen should love this scene.

This movie and a “Man Called Horse” with Richard Harris, only the first one. We’re my 2 favorite westerns in the early 1970’s, but in 1976 a movie came out that is still my second favorite western “The Outlaw Josie Wales. My Favorite of all time, is of course “The Searchers” with my childhood hero John Wayne. Love your video. May God richly bless everyone 🇮🇱✝️🇺🇸!

The scene where he stumbles across the mom who went insane cause he kid was murdered, still has one surviving child and completely neglects him in her greif is a pretty heart breaking scene.

@ColemanWade That's funny because in "Crow Killer" they used .30 caliber Hawkins before upgrading to .56 Springfields and eventually Spencer repeaters (if my notes are correct)

I have noticed recently a real drive on RU-vid to deride, talk down, and flat out claim all of the tales of John Johns (Jerimiah) to be absolute lies told by Johnson just to make money in his aging years as he participated in the old west shows of the time . I will never understand the desperate need some people have to destroy old legends. This and A Man Called Horse with Richard Harris were my all time favorite movies growing up, and I was lucky enough to watch them both when they came out. I was very very young, but they made a giant impression on me.

@rickhudnall3068 According to the introduction of "Crow Killer", many of the stories came from Del Gue, but I see your point. The same suspicions are said about Frank Hopkins (the horse racer from "Hidalgo"). Eventually I'm going to look into the controversy more and make a video about it

Good movie. At the beginning an Indian saw Johnson floundering in the water after a fish. It looked as though Johnson would not survive his first Winter.

He was liver eating Johnson. Too bad they forgot that part. There are some mountains in Montana called the Crazy Mountains because of that woman he ran into just east of Livingston MT. You can see them from the highway.
