I think the idea behind the association with Godwyn is that a "whole death" is both mind and body. Ranni wanted to shed the body but not die in spirit, so they only way to pull that off was to let some chump (Godwyn) take the spirit death without the body death.
Pretty much. In a game with verbiage of “true” or “destined” death implies there’s two parts to it, the body and the soul/mind. When the term Death is used standalone, it implies only half like the body or the soul.
I wonder if Ranni has any connection to Miquella. When we first meet her in Limgrave, she makes Kalé fall asleep. No sorcery in the game does this, and to my knowledge, no other sorcerers/astronomers have the power of sleep. Additionally, I don't think the Nox have that power either. Sleep and dreams are, however, are mentioned in multiple items related to Saint Trina and Miquella. Perhaps I'm overthinking a convenient plot point, one used by FROM Software to save money by avoid making voice lines from Kalé about Renna's appearance... But what if it's actually a window into the DEEPEST LORE.
That's a great connection. Miquella was I think confirmed to be st Trina. I can't find any other connections between ranni and miquella, other then them both empyreans that sought an alternate means outside the greater will, and they were both empyreans but that sleep thing is interesting because you're right.i feel like so much of the st Trina stuff was either cut from the game, or left deliberately vague for a dlc of some kind. But then again in the ringed city we didn't get all our answers to ds3s questions so who knows
The death rune has 2 parts, when combined complete the rune. One part is the death of the body, the other the death of the soul. And yes ranni planned the death of Goldwyn to happen at the same time as her death, it was no coincidence. The black knife assassins carved half of the rune of death into Godwyn, the death of the soul. At this time ranni carved the other half of the rune into her own flesh, the death of the body. Causing her soul to become free and able to take over the body of the doll made for her, possibly by selevus. The death of Godwyns soul left his body behind as a husk to become corrupted and become the catalyst for the death root, spreading throughout the lands between and reanimating all the soulless corpses left behind, a possibly unforeseen circumstance of rannis plan. But then again maybe she just didn’t care
I think that Ranni orchestrated Godwyn’s death because he would’ve been designated as her potential partner if the greater will’s hold had not been severed. She wanted to ensure that should could break its hold but if her attempt failed, she could buy herself some more time and delay being forced to produce more heirs for the greater will as Marika was influenced and/or possibly coerced to do.
I always thought Melina and Ranni met each other in what is sort of like a realm within a realm in the lands between. a place where only those who've died in body but their spirit remains alive...Figured this since they both vanish/appear with the same Blue Magical cloud effect and that was the connection with Ranni knowing Torrent's former master; and they're both bodiless but alive in spirit. glad to see this finally got put up. I enjoy the way you cover things. and nobody else ripped a bong at the end of their Ranni video.
I think the difference between Ranni , Miquella, and Malenia is as such : Ranni had the potential to use the Elden Ring and replace Marika as God. Miquella and Malenia on the other hand, have the potential to replace the ring itself and bring a truly new order to the lands. I think that’s why she got a shadow and they didn’t. They were all Empyrean but Ranni was the only one of the 3 that NEEDS the Elden Ring to reach her true potential. Presumably Malenia only needs to “bloom” (most likely that means die.) 3 times before ascending to being a true goddess. Miquella probably only needed the time it would take for his Haligtree to grow and for his powers to “mature” due to the Haligtrees growth. If it wasn’t for Mohg and the Tarnished Miquella and/or Melenia would have eventually become strong enough to challenge the Elden Beast, or at the very least, remove its influence So TLDR; my theory is that Ranni requires the ER to become a true god, but Miquella and Malenia just need more time. Ranni gets a Shadow because the Greater Will wants her to win to keep its control. It doesn’t actually want Malenia or Miquella to become stronger. The Greater Will doesn’t care who’s in charge as long as they are using the ER to do it.
The blood hound knights are loyal to one chosen master til death. Since ranni killed herself that knight in the Gaol didn’t betray his service was over
Good video, what brothers me is: there are Godskins near Radhan and Rykard places, and those black flames at the end or that questline... like making sure that her assistants can't say anything once she starts the journey, and the black knifes... they were pissed by being betrayed too with Alecto being jailed? Tiche murdered? Let's remember that Ranni died in body, maybe the black knifes didnt knew her location until we start to move and are about to end the questline. Or even that her soul was still alive to take some form of revenge upon her. Besides that Ashen and renmants were good, i also played Outward before ER came out, that game is pretty good and you can see the posture gauge of the enemys, also splitscreen mode :)
I think I'd rather do the Tarnished lord ending first because I just don't see my character wanting to be forced into marriage. 😆 Huh... To think Asimi's questline would've merged with Ranni would be some interesting development if restored. I love Blasphemous as a non-Fromsoft title. That game got me into the souls genre that Hollow Knight only scratched the surface on.
Parts if this were recorded dumb long ago but yeah I honestly don't like scripting videos, that being said only parts of the video wete scripted the rest was as free-form as usual.
I have a question for everyone . If malakieth is a beastman created by the greater will like blahidd was , when Marika betrayed him and the greater will and he is aware of such , ( maybe that was the trespass against him he mentions btw) , why didn't he turn against hi sister Marika like how blahidd went mad to go after ranni???
Marika was already a god when she destroyed elden ring. For some reason greater will kept her as such, just imprisoned, so there was no reason to order Maliketh to kill her.
I think the only way for the greater will to remove Marika was by way of a new empyrean and they probably figured keeping malekith alive would benefit this since he'd harbor resentment for the betrayal
22:00 Would love to know what music this is, if anyone knows, please. ^_^ Anyway. I absolutely loved the video, dude. You did such an amazing job on it and it was a great listen while playing the game. Always good to hear your own speculation on things when it comes to the lore. Can't wait for the DLC!
I'd say that I truly don't believe that Godwyn and Ranni died at the same time it's impossible when you actually sit down and look at it the distance is too far to know exactly when the knife goes into the other it had to of taken the entire night Godwyn died first then Ranni died last and a whole lot in between died cause they did say multiple gods/demigods died that night those two are the only ones who didn't get the full curse mark (I also think Marika had to be part of the plot)
Dude, the only thing i dont like it the reused themes with characters as well as with their names. Alot of the names sound the same and i get the confused and with ranni snow witch and the characters maiden seems like the same damn person from different ages. Thats what vide i get.
Waiting until I play through God of War to watch your vids on that, but you're without a doubt my favorite elden ring lore account. You should set up a patreon.
Nice one HM. I'm thinking/ grappling with possibly picking Wo Long Fallen Dynasty - not sure if it's considered soul-like; but yeah, going back to Nioh 2 might be a good intro to that. If not 'Ashen' all the way.
For non-FromSoft souls-likes I've only really played a little bit of Code Vein and Nioh, but I plan on going back and finishing them sometime this year.
Hey man, love the video but when you're editing it might be a good idea to watch your audio mixing. Also have you ever played Dragons Dogma? The Lore is pretty untapped and its a fan fucking tastic rpg ontop of that
I noticed that. Part of it is because I recorded a big chunk of it months ago and I think either my mic is going out or I wasn't sitting as close as I thought
@@TheHonoredMadman You absolutely should give it another shake, and yeah that makes sense now with the one cut in, I only say it because the videos come in on my feed while I'm sleeping lmao
I thought Godwyn was killed at the same time so his Ranni could discard her body but maintain her "soul/spirit." Otherwise, why any of it? ... Also the fingerslayer blade's description says it canNOT be wielded by someone without a fate. Reading it right off the screen. Been waiting for this one for a long time!! Love the vids man, keep it up!
