I would've died if that ever happened to me I want to share my own story, so one night I was washing the dishes, it was a bit late, atleast from what I could remember While I was washing dishes, about to finish up, in the corner of my eye I saw a black figure hunched over passing by behind me. I looked to my side, then behind me, of course I saw nothing, so I just ignored it, thinking it was just my imagination But then my dog came from the bedroom, and faced me, he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at something that's behind me. He saw it too. That's when chills ran down my spine, I left the dishes, they could wait I am not gonna let myself encounter some shadow person face to face

yes, i thought it sounded a LOT like it too, just when someone's awake. given that it's something people all over the world have experienced, seemingly always too, i'd wager it's some weird thing human brains just happen to do, the same as sleep paralysis.

I think I saw a shadow person once when I vomited 12 times then got diarrhea and had severe dehydration. Also heard that deliriant drugs can cause you to see them.

During certain period of my life I used to get sleep paralysis and OBEs. I remember the night these experiences began, there was a sense of a figure standing next to my bed and pulling me out.

Oh my god. I experienced it twice before I was in my B 20’s. Kept out a secret until I later found OUT THAT SLEEP PARALYSIS is a somewhat common occurrence.

You are wrong, I wish you were not but you are wrong I have 0 interest in convincing you though, I know what I have experienced and your description comes nowhere near describing it. And btw I am 42 so I was experiencing this from the 80's onwards, pre internet, pre any hype about such things. In fact it was not until my teens I became aware this was a common experience. Humans want to think they can explain things like this in a nice rational bubble, but I am afraid life does not work like that all the time, and this is one of those times

It's also just a really common kind of hallucination, specifically the kind that can be brought on by things that are also really common, like stimulants or just sleep deprivation.

i’ve experienced sleep paralysis once when i was maybe 9 or 10. it was the most terrifying experience of my life or at least one of them. i literally could not move- i couldn’t even turn my head!! and i don’t remember the figure i saw but he or she was horrifying and i just remember trying to not think about it and looking away but i couldn’t. it’s like knowing you’re going to die but you can’t move, but luckily you don’t die and just have a massive panic attack after lol

Being afraid of the dark or night comes from our ancestry roots that go back to cavemen. We would hunt at day and sleep at night and the only thing that calmed us was the sight of fire. Our fight or flight response occurs because back then we worried about predators coming in and eating us in the night.

No when we get close to death we see stuff from the other side. My grandma and grandpa saw many unworldly things days before their death. My grandma was literally terrified of being alone and going to the washroom was like a nightmare to her. She used to see some kind of ghostly entity in the washroom. She was haunted by these creatures till her last breath. It was heart wrenching to see her act these ways. She was such a brave woman, she used to live in a house alone in the village and always smiled and laughed when we visited her. She was such a positive person. But in her end days i never saw her smile, she always looked terrified. She was a complete different person. Even my grandad saw many of these creatures before his death. My grandad died from cancer so most of the time he'd be on bed. He used to tell my grandma about these beings roaming in the house and calling his name and stuff. Everyone will experience these paranormal stuff when they are close to death.

@Oliver Von arx I definitely agree with the children one, my younger brother once ESCAPE from my family house because he saw some "shadow people" told him to go. It was honestly terrifying and thank god that what we called "Residence security" found him near a creek half paralyzed. Who knows what could happen if those guys never found him. 1 month later, my family moved from that house, and to this day the house is extremely creepy, with the current resident rarely seen inside the house (based from my old neighbor) Though to be fair, the house is creepy because there's a bamboo forest nearby.

What happened to them?

When I was in the hospital with my mom shortly before she past, it was just her and I in the room and she said to me “make them leave.” I asked “who?” And she said the man in the hat and his monster. I said there was no one else here and she yelled “they’re right there, make them leave!” And pointed to the end of her bed. I’d never seen her so panicked in my life and I still think about it often. Creepiest part was, I had never even heard of the hat man for another 5 years or so..

Do you know what schizophrenia is? It's a chronic malfunction in the brain's connections that causes hallucinations. Well we all have those malfunctions tho they're just brief and momentary. That's what the "shadow people" are (tbh most of the ppl with schizophrenia who have visual hallucinations state they see shadow people following them)

Same here, but I am 90% sure that they are a construct from our minds. I have at least been able to get rid of them during my recent sleep paralysis... it wakes me up, but it feels a lot less scary. Though I completely understand why you wouldn't be able to control your fears during those times, because those are the scariest experiences I've ever had. Still, there are many ways to control your fear or your dreams. Sleep paralysis is, at least to my knowledge, just another dream or hallucination and can be controlled.

Where you see a head and shoulders above you and you're choking and gasping for air...and you pray out loud and it darts away through the ceiling...and that happens three nights in a row and you pray really hard about it and then it didn't happen anymore...yikes my dude. That was many years ago and there were people in my house that got uncomfortable without me really telling them anything. There's just something, I can't really say what, but I just refer to it as demons because praying to Jesus seems to work. You know it could just be the positive energy that Jesus gives me so that I'm confident to make them go away. And shadow people wasn't something I like super looked into, I just kind of assumed a lot of paranormal activity was some kind of demon we don't understand, potentially a lost soul but I don't know, or just made a rip in time and you're repeating the same thing over and over again I guess in another dimension?

Its all fun and games until you see something in the corner of your eye and you feel a presence its not your friend or anyone you know it's something else. you quickly turn around and theres nothing there you laugh to yourself saying "My eyes are playing tricks on me in the dark!" you go take the midnight gaming snacks as usual but something just doesn't feel right after you felt that presence. "What really was that" you mumble as you start going back to your computer you sit down comfortably on your chair it feels better now that you have something else to focus on you play your favourite game for a couple hours its still *pitch black* outside you're having fun and then from nowhere you hear a sound you don't get spooked since you drop things often you look down seeing your water bottle you bend forward under your desk reaching for it and now its in your grasp you place it on the desk firmly so that it doesn't fall again as you turn back to your computer you feel that presence again but you ignore it for the time being and then a loud thud is heard you slowly turn your chair around to face the darkness behind you "Nothing there, who would've thought" you say in a heroic manner right as you start to swivel your chair around however the thud is heard again now you get up shouting "Who is that!" after no response from whatever it was that made the sound you start doubting yourself blaming your brain for just playing a silly little game footsteps are heard you glance at the *dark abyss* admiring it scouting for anything that moves you feel that dreadful presence now doubting it was your mind all along doing the sounds. a dark figure is briefly seen and now its not a game anymore you fiddle around trying to get ahold of your phone "Maybe i can use this as evidence" you exclaimed "At least i wont seem totally insane" the *dark shadow like figure* appears right in front of you trying to move you find that you're paralysed by the chock it gave you now powerless you look at the *shadow* like figure its almost too close for comfort the almost enchanting *black* is very mesmerising to look at. the paralysis wears of and so does the figure you look around after it but its nowhere to be seen you text your friends detailing the insane encounter you had with the weird creature they urge you to get out of there quickly but you don't think its necessary to leave the house since you have nowhere to go and sleep so you go to bed early because you don't wanna have another encounter with the paranormal you lay down in your bed turning of the lights and thats when you for the last time see the creature looking down at you from the ceiling...

I have seen one, it tap me in my sleep or even when i am awake. I will be sleeping peacefully, I feel a tap, wake up, and I see it across the room before it disappears. Once I got out of bed and was walking the the hallway to get water, I felt a tap, I turn around, and it was staring at me across the hallway and disappeared when I turn the lights on. I am experiencing it to this day

Ok so i see “shadow people “ usually in the night while trying to fall a sleep mostly in front of me or over me theres a point where you just get used to them and just realize there is nothing you can do about it. I have been seeing them for almost 7 months now

I rmbr having seeing 4 instances of shadowy figures, twice when I had a fever and once in a dream. The first two sightings, they looked vaguely human but had long spindly figures. The third one though, dude was chasing me in my dream. Weirdly this time, it looked more human and seemed more like a man dressed in a long coat and a fedora. Latest one ever, I was waking up and I was talking to someone one in my dream while being fully aware and conscious of my surroundings. I can't remember their features or their voice but behind them was a group of people who looked shadowy. It really felt like I was seeing double.

They sounds like a native and Pre native burial ground area in the US anyway. Many people close to or on areas where these mounds are near by see this or something very similar. I feel the pressure of the cat's steps on the bed, than on my chest, very soft, then it just curls and seems to go to rest. Since it's not scary, I don't freak out or try to fight it, I just let it happen and make a conscious effort to go back to sleep. I'd say I manage to go back to normal sleep about 50% of the time.

@@reddiamond8136 The reason they're often attributed to hallucinations is they tend to appear when people are in a hypnagogic mind state (basically sleepy) or are under the influence of certain drugs. Other than that, I'd say in dark abandoned places.

@@trombone113 yeah and so am I. 15 pills wouldn't make you overdose my man. Would it be a dumb thing to do, especially since it's a deliarnt? Yeah obviously. But calling it a overdose is a little far fetched. You'd need around 1000mg for a chance to die, and that's probably the worst way to go.

I actually used to do this often and 15 pills was commonly what I took. Personally I like that impending doom feeling. One time I took 60 something (on accident after like 30 pills in I lost control and became cationic) I ended up going insane and my family put me in a psyche ward from which after in temp I was supposed to be move to long term by my mom didn’t take me.

Dont encourage people to do this... not everyone has the same tolerance to medications. This just sounds stupid.

Ever seen a shadow dog vs person/hat man? I've seen hat man a few times but the dog only once and it was for many seconds. I thought it was a real dog and tried calling it towards me (was wide awake outside late at night having a cig after a long, bad night). It slowly walked down the street, paused when I tried calling it, then kept going. When I went to look for it not even 5 seconds after it passed by (I thought maybe it was a stray dog) I couldn't find anything anywhere despite walking the length of the street and back.

Maybe, but as one who is on the opposite spectrum ( insomnia/sleeplessness) I've only ever encountered them after being awake for a few days. Its like my mind opens up in ways that allow me to be able to perceive them, but never directly, and never when I'm actually looking for them.

I have had sleep paralysis my whole life as well. On the avg of once per month. Have become aware of what's happening when it happens to the point that I can force myself back to full sleep or just snap out of it. With that said, I have seen shadows moving before but have never encountered them during sleep paralysis. When I was about 5-6 yo, I would see it in the same spot of our house. Back corner of the kitchen as I played in the middle room. Thought it was normal. I remember telling my parents about it when I was around 11 and they were shocked and let me know how not normal it was. Here in Louisiana they are known as who dats or what nots

Almost all the testimony for the shadow people comes from altered perception (sleep paralysis, insomnia, falling asleep, waking up) or when there is a high chance of pareidolia (dark environment)

Yeah I feel you I was in a bathroom and I don't like to tell people because they don't believe me but in the bathroom at this old cowboy town I saw a thing black and the more I got scared the more it got bigger and bigger and it was in front of the door so I had to walk through it and it felt werid not right doing that but I get gooes bumps everytime I think of it but to this day never went back there.

I can't explain it, but I've been dealing with exactly what you commented ever since I can remember . Just like you said I used to only deal with it during sleep paralysis type situations but it has since evolved to being able to see it all the time. It's hard to say what it is but it definitely seems to occur among a decent amount of people.

I have found the more I learn about them and the more I meet people that see them too the less fear they cause. When I was younger anything paranormal would scare me and the fear would last hours or days because I didn't understand it and no one believed me but now very little scare me…and hopefully i can help others to not be frightened by them too.

Many believe the mothman isn't malicious.... that he kind chills in an area as a forewarning.... then not even 2 months later, that bridge collapsed during rush hour. That bridge is how many get back and forth between Minneapolis/St. Paul. I have tons of family in the St. Paul area that commute across that bridge for work... and with all the cell activity, it was impossible to reach anyone. It goes over the Mississippi River.... I remember seeing it all over the news in shock... but I recall that people were reporting sightings of the mothman leading up to it. Me personally, I'd probably have a heart attack if I saw him. I saw one years ago before i was a believer in Jesus, when I was an athiest. It was at night, and i was wide awake because i had a fucked up sleep schedule where id end up sleeping around 2 or 3 in the morning. I was out with a couple friends around 9 or 10 PM, and while we were walking down the street i got a bad feeling and turned around. I saw what looked like the figure of a humanoid but it was black like a shadow despite the street lights, its head was a bit bigger than a regular human head proportional to its body and it was hiding behind a young leafless tree (it was autumn). I locked eyes with it, as i could see its eyes glow like that of a cats at night. I knew it wasnt a cat because it stood on 2 legs and was too large compared to this young tree id just walked past. I turned back to my friends, and we kept walking despite me probably looking shaken. I dont know what i saw, sometimes i just tell myself it was a big racoon or something even though it was standing on 2 legs and leaning out from behind a tree. In any situation, it scared me enough to start thinking more about the supernatural and stuff outside of the human ability to measure and verify. Ive had other supernatural experiences in my life after that which lead me to Jesus, stuff that i know i dodnt hallucinate as there were others around me when these things happened that saw the same things i saw.

Yeah, when I saw a shadow person I felt a presence unlike anything I ever felt and it filled me more fear than I've ever felt. I also saw it on what was a completely dark surface, yet I could make it out.

I've had this "shadow-like looking people" experience a few years ago with my classmate. We got curious to try a ghost summoning so we did. We went to my friend's cellar. We used a few candles that we placed around us on the floor and in front of us we placed a mirror so we can see behind our backs. We tried to summon a bloody marry first which didn't work. Then we tried my gnandpa. That was the moment I saw a shadow figure to appear right in front of me to my left side. The figure was levitating right above the floor. It traveled a short distance right in front of my eyes and then it disappeared. You could see no eyes or any other recognitive features. The figure seemed to be tall at around 150cm. It appeared right in front of me so this was not that type of thing where you suddenly see something in the corner of your eye. I asked my friend if he saw it too and he said he did. Tbh i didn't expect anything to experience that day but this is what happened. Not sure what to think about it.

No, everybody tries to say its sleep paralysis i was literally in a party on psn when it happened and was fully awake. (I saw a child size figure at the end of my couch staring at me, it was pitch black except from my TV in the room yet it was darker and had a perfect outline of a child, i stared at it for 10 seconds before it vanished before my eyes) ive also seen and felt shadow hands on my shoulder which feel like the weight of a thick bit of cardboard being lifted when they realise ive seen them! They didnt seem malicious the ones i actually saw but the one i only heard scared the shit out of my dog and then tried to beat down my door at 5 in the morning

The thing is, of course, when you're wide awake there's no explanation. However, it's definitely sleep paralysis when you're asleep. That's just a fact that a lot of people who have witnessed "shadow people" in their *dreams* tend to deny. When you can't scream, move, absolutely nothing no matter what enters your dream room: that's sleep paralysis. Maybe I'm just too skeptical, but that's the basic sleep paralysis experience. You can't move, you can't blink, you can't do anything as whatever enters your room is able to touch you and stare at you until you wake up.

I believe in paranormal, I’ve had a few experiences that would need to defy physics to be not supernatural. But most shadow people are described as being in the corner of your eye. Human nature, through the course of evolution, has a tendency to be paranoid, usually seeing something out of the corner of your eye is enough to startle you, and shadow people can easily be passed off as shifts in lighting. However dead on vision is harder to explain, late night could be delirium and fevers can cause hallucinations (I had some when I got a fever of 113.) this is not an attempt to discredit all encounters, just remember your own brain is the best at playing tricks on you.
