In practice, the "go collect all these magic weapons to fight the big bad" ends up being less about the weapons than about the levels you gain running around obtaining them.

The black powder dealer is Victor, who might be the most iconic NPC in Critical Role! WAS SOOOO HAPPY TO SEE HIM!!!!

For some context: When Craven Edge, Grog's talking sword, hits a creature and draws blood, on a failed constitution saving throw, Grog strength score increases by 1 until his next short rest (and yes you can stack). I love the way it's visualized on the show with his eyes going red to show how jacked up he's getting

Ripley was the woman who got away at the end of season 1. The one that was locked up and Percy almost immediately killed. She was into tinkering like Percy I believe, and guns aren't common. So of course she would go to the one person who sells black powder.

I didn't realize until watching this reaction that the Sphinx's direction to the armor was a riddle, implying that is NEXT TO a lake instead of actually entombed (covered) BY THE LAKE.

Yes!!!! The sphinx segment is incredible with giving you sooo much insight into everyone’s background and motivations in such a short amount of time. Absolutely love watching along with you guys, especially since y’all are the ones who got me into Critical Role!

You should definitely look for the Viktor cosplay Matt did for one of their Halloween episodes. It's magical. Taliesin: "It's like Doc Brown exploded!" Also, while Percy's BACKstory might be mostly resolved, he still gets his share of developments throughout the rest of the campaign.

Victor at the end was what I was waiting for since I binged Campaign 1! I knew Matt Mercer voiced him immediately, that was iconic

I just noticed after Percy gets flung from the big magic butt, he does this really nice forward roll. Most of it is obscured by Scanlan, but you can see Percy start by rolling from forearm to shoulder, then end in a sitting position.

Serious foreshadowing with those ravens.

5:09 fun fact: the highbearer is voiced by Sumalee, aka Nila. I would never for the life of me have recognised her voice. It's wild.

Vasselheim's strategy may be morally questionable but it actually has worked out very well for them historically. And they do have their reasons, the animation isn't going to go into it because they don't have time for 10 minutes of lore but the city is actually very important and has many enemies that are just waiting for any sign of weakness to strike. it's also the oldest City left in Exandria and has knowledge you cannot find anywhere else in the world. (It's kind of Exandria's Jerusalem, sort of).

I love how they added into Scanlans character overall by not just making him a bard, but his magic takes this interesting form of body parts and altering the body. He's a bard that doesn't just enhance the voice or charisma, he explores all parts of what makes a person a person, literally and figuratively. His body isn't enough to fight, so he makes a giant fists. It's funny but also very on character

These first episodes are so good. Can't wait to see the episode 3 reaction.

Two of the guys in the crowd at the Slayer's take are an homage to Garrison and Red Monika from the comic book (and recent videogame) Battle Chasers, by the master artist Joe Madureira, who pioneered the America-manga style since the late 90s, influencing Warcraft, Lol, a many more, included this show. I love that Will Friedle and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn reprised their roles from the campaign, but I think that Grog's encounter with Earthbreaker Groon was shoehorned in because there wasn't time.

Alura, the archmage casting all the spells in s2e1, confirmed Star Razor was a vestige in C2. But yes, they are setting up a LOT in foreshadowing. I think Adam is missing the connection to Ripley from s1 :D And yeah, I'm not super happy with the Slayer's Take, especially Zahra and Kash, BUT I get that they have to change and condense the story for the show, and they don't have Arc1 where they explain how VM joined the Take, so. It works.

Basically, this arc is the first time Vestiges were introduced into the campaigns.... I wouldn't be surprised if the concept was created specifically for this arc, and then became a more lasting element of the campaigns later
