We all know about the mysterious Eye that can see the truth in Ocarina of Time. Some people even managed to venture past the deception without the Eye of Truth. But, have you ever wondered about the back story of the Lens, and the man that was supposed to live near the well in Kakariko?

I like to tell myself that they get their drinking water from a different source since the well is drained for over 7 years...but I'm quite sure they did use the water for -something-. Yuck :D

Worth noting that Bongo Bongo might have been hanged by the feets. It dont seems like it, but it is considered one of the most painfull death ever. You blood goes into your head whith more and more pressure and then your head "explode" from the Inside. This take days of increasingly stronger pain to finally die. Plus, Bongo Bongos head look like it exploded and appear upside down.

I prefer M Productions theory that the Shadow temple and bottom of the well were torture chambers used during the Hyrulian civil war. Bongo Bongo was the leader of a Sheika uprising against the Hyrulians. Impa was one of the few Sheika that didn't revolt. The Royal family pretty much killed all the Sheika except for a select few. This is supported by the Royal family's "dark secret" referenced a few times. In other words the shadow temple WAS NOT a place of worship for the Sheika.

I feel like the ghost-hunter is the kid from kakariko graveyard and at one point, probably closer to his early teens, he finally found a poe but got injured by it but barely managed to defeat it on his own. He must've then touched the poe rather than capture it in a bottle like link does causing the poe to try and claim him as a vessel. By the way the ghost-hunter looks it seems he fought very hard but ultimately lost. Therefore the ghosthunter is deformed because of the battle between the child and poe. And has a glaring red eye as a sign of possession. When Zelda was possessed at the end of Twilight Princess her eyes weren't red because she was being possessed by a different entity, Ganondorf, who is also significantly more powerful than a poe and thus the sign of possession would show such.

I’m 99% sure he’s the hylian guard because he says he’s interested in ghosts. As an adult the poe collector takes the guard’s place meaning they’re probably the same person

Unifying several theories, i would say that the "man who could see the truth" was a sheikan who learned magic that was even prohibited to be used by the sheikans themselves. He used this to enhace his TWO eyes, one to see the physical truth (fake walls, hidden pits) and another to see the "metal truth" (lies, thoughs). When he was found by the elders of the tribe, they manage to seal the power of one of his eyes in the Lens of Truth, but he managed to escape, and founded a multi-racial group, tempting them with what they most desire. They were the Interlopers from Twilight Princess. Also, maybe he build the well and the dugeon below his house to keep doing its dark arts before he was discovered. On the other side, maybe the dugeon was already built, abandoned, and sealed, and his house was built over it, he found it by accident and from there, he learnt how to use that dark magic.

Hey Vortex, if your running out of theorys, you can do one on the the hyrule soldier in the castle town shop being related to the poe seller or the boy in the graveyard being related to the poeseller. Also what happen to the boy 7 years later and why can't you ever go inside his house, even though if you glitch inside its a shop house from 7 years later, or how dampe died.

I would say it's the other way around. For me, bongobongo on human form was part of the village, probably some sort of prison holder or interrogator, as the well has cell-like structures, he probably tortured a lot of enemies. I would say bongobongo got cursed or he himself became a demon of sorts due to inner evil, who knows. Thats my take on it at least.

widely accepted theory on the ghost catcher in OOT is that he is the guard that you find in the same spot as a child. He says something along the lines of "I love ghosts, too bad the world is too happy and I can't find any." it's also possible that he learned how to see the truth after training for a long time.

Maybe Bongo Bongo was a thief and stole something of the Royal Family's. He could've had a powerful influence over the Sheikah. When he was caught, his hands were cut off, and he was executed. The Sheikah could've added the tear to their original symbol out of shame or sadness.

Larissa G That was my initial thought as well, but Skyward Sword shows the tear already and that game takes place hundreds of years before OoT. I do believe the Sheikah to have had a hand (no pun intended) in the civil war though, and Bongo Bongo still fitting in that scenario.

one guys theory was that Bongo Bongo was the leader of a group Sheikahs that rebelled against the royal family during the civil war as the sheikah was one of the tribes. the hylian army invaded kakariko to quell the rebellion but were losing to the sheikah, this is referenced in Twilight Princess as the sheikahs that rebelled were in fact the interlopers of legend that became the twili. after the intervention, the hylian army successfully annexed kakariko and captured bongo bongo and executed him sealing him at the bottom of the well by impa herself as one maybe few of the sheikah that remained loyal to the royal family. and another question you may want to explore i found from someone's elses theory. Why did the Sheikah rebel? what were the causes? what happened in the civil war that caused the sheikah to rebel?

Cloud354 I agree with some parts of that theory, mainly the Sheikah rebelling in two points in time: the interloper war (occuring right after Skyward Sword) and the Hyrulean Civil War (10-20 years before the events of Ocarina of Time). Why? The Sheikah are dealt a rather cruel fate; they are forever to be in the shadows of the royal family, protecting them and putting their lives above their own. It does not seem unlikely that some Sheikah would at some point rebel. Initially during the Interloper War; a splinter faction of Sheikah sought the power of the triforce that the family protected. With the triforce they could escape their fate. Their plan failed due to intervention of the Light Spirits, resulting in the rebelling Sheikah to be banished (turning into the Twili over time). Hundreds of years passed until the second Sheikah rebellion: during the Hyrulean Civil War. I believe the Sheikah to be part of the reason there was a war in the first place. They collaborated with the Gerudo and intended to overthrow the royal family. They failed again and the Sheikah tribe was diminished greatly, with only a few surviving (loyal to the family) members left. Impa being one of them.

My guess is that like what you said the Shadow Temple used to be a burial ground. This dungeon on the other hand had a different purpose. It was the sewage treatment facility for Kakariko back in the day hence it's location and layout. However after the evil people that repurposed the Shadow Temple into a prison came in there came a time that the Shadow Temple while large was running out of room for prisoners as well as means to dispose of the corpses so these greedy freaks went and extended the prison outward into the sewage treatment plant. It would be the perfect cover up to mask their activities. Just like nobody would suspect a mausoleum nobody would suspect the sewer system either.

This lends the whole Zelda universe unparalleled depth (at least I haven't seen any other works with this potential depth which actually seems plausible). What I'm trying to say is, I love this!

I always wondered if the Ghost Shop man was wearing the Mask of Truth the whole time, since its supposed to enable you to read people's minds, even though you never could when you actually wore it as Link. But maybe Link simply didn't know how to use it correctly and that's how he was only able to use it to talk to the Gossip Stones?

You know, the odd thing is Bongo Bongo IS NOT in the well when we enter it as child Link. If it was he probably was in a room that isn't on the map, is a theory that the walls are just piled up bodies and not actual walls so.... But if Bongo Bongo "wasn't" sealed in the well as child Link, he had to have been during the 7 years gap which would make his connection the tear theory false...It's possible that Bongo Bongo's body was at the bottom of the wall but got revived akin to that one dragon in the other temple. But as child Link Bongo Bongo is not sealed unless there's a room we can't even find. I love The Bottom Of The Well, and wished that the 3Ds remake added a bit more than censoring Dead Hand. I mean there were dungeons and other bits that were cut from OOT, the 3Ds remake should had been the BEST thing to readd all that back. I mean, wouldn't you guys be overjoyed if they had finished the Temple Of Light/Time since the floors are solid in he original? Why do I feel like the 3Ds remake was just a graphics update and nothing more was touched minus Masterquest being flipped?

I think the manga information of thhe Sheikah symbolism being represented with an eye without a tear is not canon anymore, since in Skyward Sword there already existed that symbol with the tear, and the Kingdom of Hyrule didn't exist yet, so no treason could've been made.

My theory on this is that as part of their training the Sheikah practiced and learned how to see the truth with their own eyes (as stated by the old man in Kakariko this was possible to learn), and that one man - maybe a Sheikah who failed to learn this or a Hylian who was envious of the Sheikah's ability and sought the power himself - found a way to create the Lens of Truth, making it possible for him to see the truth without going through the long and hard training.

What if the guy was given the lens by bongo bongo and became a necromancer? The villagers feared him, tried to kill him, but could only trap him within the well where he became a monster. The owner of the lens before him got trapped in the shadow temple catacombs and was more powerful, hence the extra arms. This would put bongo bongo more as a false god. The first owner lived long enough to obtain the hoverboots, but when he started to get too strong bongo bongo put an end to his own minion.

Great video. It is interesting that not only is it possible to obtain all the items in that set, but to use them all at the same time! At least I'm pretty sure you can do that. I really don't think that guy used his actual eye though. I mean the old man did say he used a different method. That pretty much says it was an item that he used. As for the ghost salesman, I really wonder who that could be. I even wonder if it could be the hero of time from a different timeline.

VortexxyGaming I think that the bottom of the well and the shadow temple are physically connected as one building (if that makes sense) as they both have torture devices but you cannot enter them through either buildings

Actually, the Lens Of Truth is a required item, you need it to see the Poe in Gerudo Desert, so you can get to the Spirit Temple, but that is still a good background! You've done almost all of your homework on OOT! Love the opening graphics btw!

Thanks :) You can actually cross the desert without it, but it requires some memorization. I've done it a few times so I can confirm the desert doesn't block you from continuing if youre not using it.

One theory is that Bongo-Bongo was both the man who could see the truth and a high-ranking member of the Sheikah, during the time of the Interlopers. These Interlopers are also theorized to be the Sheikah, meaning that any member would be an enemy of the kingdom of Hyrule. Impa's people, due to her being a member of a small group of Sheikah loyal to the Hylians, captured Bongo-Bongo and tortured him in the Shadow Temple after its apparent remodelling. His eventual execution wasn't enough to stop both his magical prowess and hatred of the Hyalians, so his spirit was imprisoned at the bottom of a well with other Sheikah.

very well thought out theory of the sheikas, as well interesting to boot. Considering how much mystery is involved around them as well we don't know or have any concrete evidence, who they are? Besides the protectors and watchers over the hyrule family [aka Impa who is a Sheika herself?] we don't know their real origin. If there is one complaint I must say and its very, very minor and know you have been doing this for awhile. Not sure if you've done anymore past couple months? Is that you should, increase your volume of your voice a bit. There were points where it became a bit hard to hear, either than that very great video. I will check out the others.

Bongo Bongo was a man who could see the truth: that they were all inside a video game! he found out and it drove him insane. he was executed but couldn't die. the final fight is him trying desperately to escape his eternal torment by ripping through the fabric of reality. that's why he starts banging on the drum lightly at first. like, "this is it. i've found it." then he goes manic and realizes he has to kill you to get through. but then you kill him and he dissolves into static. no other boss ever does that. he transcends the game and escapes into another world.

When WW came out the time line was not made yet so MM gets a few references such as in the tower of the gods if you get some lore from tingle via the tingle tuner you get a synopsis of MM the swords text is the same kind of thing

I´ve seen this before, but the real nature of Bongo Bongo´s design only struck me just now. We´re seeing seeing a body with its arms up in the air, and a big eye in place of where its severed head would have been (in its neck). The lump on its upper part, then, is part of the torso. Yuck.

in regards to if the lens is required or not...i believe it should be based on the first playthrough. you could throw bombs to find a path. but how do you tell which skull is the real one when you aim the statue to it without the lens?

Nintendo won't fill the holes because that would ruin any form of subtly that they put into the story. A good writer doesn't answer all the questions, but provide questions that have people trying to find the answers. It's why Shakespeare is still studied so intensively even today.

I've loved The Legend Of Zelda Games all my life, I am happy to find out that my new (New to me!) used 3DS has The Legend Of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and the very first two Legend Of Zelda games predownloaded on it!

Do you ever discuss your theories with other Zelda fanatics? You seam to be quite intelligent and very knowledgeable. And although I and possibly most others would find it difficult to disprove your theories, they do sometimes disagree with other theories I have come across and find equally as fascinating. The trouble is sometimes like to adopt these theories and pretend as if they are the official canonized explanations of these events, places and things; except I'm afraid I really can only accept one of these theories because of the manner of which they conflict. So, to honest all I really am hoping for is just your general opinion on another individuals take on similar aspects in the Zelda universe, namely another RU-vidr's channel that goes by the name M. Productions. I would very much like to hear with which items you agree or disagree and your overall thoughts on his position. So thanks in advance and I look forward to your reply

The “fix” for Bongo Bongo’s death animation is one of the worst they made, along w/ censorship... I love the blue static look way better than the black shadow look.

I just noticed something, and I'm sorry if I sound like an asshole saying this, but I am a LITTLE bit of a stickler, it's pronounced She-Kah, not Shake-ah. XD Just sayin ^_^ I do however, still enjoy your videos! They have good points that I haven't exactly considered myself yet!

your videos are interesting but you should make your own theories ive read these theories online and most of what your saying is word for word unless your making a video for those forums? or you wrote them yourself? i dont know but thats just me

He gained the eye of truth, it tainted his own eye, as he got involved with the dark and bloody history of hyrule. Bongo was a Sheikah who betrayed the Royal Family with horrific acts

R u another 1 of the only girls who play this. I am an 11 yr old 1 who is still stuck on defeating the 3rd gerudo and how to get to her without arrows but I know u have 2 use the hookshot if u don't have arrows tho
