The Legend of Zelda Theory: The Fierce Deity

The Fierce Deity. During the final battle against Majora's Mask, Link is given a mask containing the soul of a mysterious, yet powerful god. It's unknown where the mask came from, but the events of Majora's Mask bear a strong resemblance to the origin story detailed in Skyward Sword. Could Majora and the Fierce Deity be the Terminian equivalent of Demise and Hylia's Chosen Hero?

To me the Fierce Deity is a blessing and a curse. Put simply, Link undergoes hardship and pain, seeing and witnessing several emotions. To wield the Fierce Deity and hold at bay anger and pain unlike Majora; is what makes Link and the Fierce Deity a much stronger power that Majora could never fathom.
@dakotawillingham192
@dakotawillingham192 9 лет назад
This is actually strengthened somewhat by the recent interview with Aonuma who states that it would be best to think of the mask as containing the memories of all the people in Termina. This could be taken in that their collective pain/memories are contained in it, and that is what gives Link the incredible strength and power, but it also could mean that it contains the Termina equivalent of Link's memory of the people of Termina.

I have a theory of my own about how the two masks connect to Link. When we first see him in Majora's Mask, it's after he was sent back to his childhood following Ocarina of Time. Despite successfully warning Zelda and the royal family of Ganondorf, Link is severely lost when we see him again. Not only was he thrust back into youth after being forced to mature so quickly in OoT, he knows he's not really a Kokiri and can't return there as his home, and he has lost Navi, though he hopelessly searches for her. At this point, Link could be resenting his role as Hyrule's chosen hero. And like how Dark Link was supposedly created from Link's guilt for allowing Ganondorf to take over, Majora's Mask could very well have been drawn to Link's resentment and chose to feed off of his grief for his former life. This leads Link to go on another quest and confront his grief, ultimately purging it through use of the Fierce Deity's mask and finally accepting all that has happened.
@brentbingham2513
@brentbingham2513 5 лет назад
Actually that makes sense like when you go get transformation masks they seem to have some sort of symbolism for grief and when links finishes that area with the transformation mask in the game he overcomes one of the stages of grief

This is unrelated to the content of the video but I noticed something while watching it. The kid wearing majora's mask on the moon looks like the Happy Mask Salesmen if he were a child... What if the Happy Mask Salesman is in fact Majora and that mask is his? What if the reason he is so cryptic is because he's hiding this and what the mask actually is? And what if... What if... The mask also contains his true power as a deity? What if Majora (The happy mask salesman) is trying to protect the world from his darker half by keeping his mask from falling into the wrong hands? Who taught you the song of healing? A song which turns dark magic into masks?.. Why would he know of such a song? How would he learn such a thing unless he'd seen it used or, in fact, had it used on him...

There was an interview with one of the Zelda's directors this year: the Fierce Diety is a being made of all the pain that Majora caused... hence why it can hurt him so bad... like a karma fuelled spirit bomb if you will. Any specific identity of this spirit however, they admitted they couldn't really give us. It also makes sense because the characters used to write the fierce diety in japanese can be interprated as the Kishin. A Kishin is a spirit of vengeful justice that punishes the wicked.

Eiji Aonuma's explanation still works with my theory, the only difference is that the mask lends it power from misery around it and channels that through the wearer. Since the mask is still considered wrathful, it can now be interpreted as wrathful towards whoever hurt the people of termina, namely majora's mask :)
@TheClarity101

***** I'm not saying anything about your theory, just putting that out there in case you hadn't seen it. I'm personally quite happy with this explanation as opposed to what the manga's made up
@NekoMichi

***** Interesting point, the karma part also makes sense considering the Fierce Deity Mask can only be worn when fighting bosses, the physical incarnations of the pain caused by Majora.
@shadeof2010
@shadeof2010 9 лет назад
***** That would also explain why it's literal translation ends up along the lines of "demon god mask" as anguish given physical form usually turns into a demon, and the amount of power it received was powerful enough to conquer a god-like being in it's own domain. However, it can also be theorized that the fierce deity is actually is a chosen one as the symbols that appear on his armor are important. One is a crescent moon, which you can see all over the place in clock town, possibly being a holy symbol which could explain why Majora used the moon as his weapon. The other is a piece of the triforce, presumably of courage. This could possibly be making reference to the idea that the original hero of termina couldn't beat Majora's mask and was sealed into the mask. The mask then absorbed all of the pain Majora caused and turned into the "demon god". This would also explain why Majora had it. To end it all, the armor is a reference to the fact that Link, the hero of hyrule, merged with the hero of termina, increasing their power even further. But that's just my theory on this.

maybe link took the fierce deity's mask with him, and it's caught in a loop. think of it, when the game ends, and you sit through the credits, you are sent back to the main menu where you can choose to replay the adventure over again. and what mask do you have in your items when you start the file back up again? the fierce deity's mask. how does it get caught in a loop though? the games have to deal with time. and in majora's mask, you are continuously going back in time, albeit some of your items staying with you. and if the fierce deity is the alternate version of adult link and termina's version of the hero of time, perhaps the goddess of time had wanted the fierce deity's mask to be in the hands of a hero. why else would you have the mask after the end of the game? it loops. the mask is always with the hero after that.

Here's my take: - I love the idea of the triforce-holding counterparts. Link=Fierce Diety, Demise=majora, Hylia=Goddess of time. I don't think that the goddess of time and Hylia are really connected. They are just each other's counterparts. - there was a showdown between the terminian hero and Majora. But in this battle, Fierce Diety lost. In order to preserve her hero and stop Majora, the goddess of time sealed them both into masks, where they would lie dormant. Majora suppressed, Fierce Diety's power living on. It was her last ditch effort to save termina. Her physical form was lost because of the power it took to seal both of them and all of their power - the Happy Mask Salesman is the goddess of time's servant. She influences him to do what she would do if she had physical influence. After Majora's mask was sealed by the ancient tribe, the goddess of time sent the happy mask salesman to find it and keep it safe. It goes wrong when skull kid steals the mask, however. - Majora influences skull kid to put on the mask, and Majora can begin its plan to take its revenge on Termina and its inhabitants. It's so obsessed with misery and mischief a. Because it wants to do as much harm as possible, and b. It took on some of skull kid's traits. It becomes mischievous and a bit...crazy - the goddess of time, swing that Majora is on its way to destroying her beloved land again, brings in Link from Hyrule to help. She knew about Link being the counterpart to her own hero, and knew that if anyone could defeat Majora, it was him. She possibly lured Navi into Termina to start Link on his search - Majora uncovers the Fierce Diety mask. It keeps the mask so that when link makes it to the moon, it can destroy them at the same time. - Link puts on the Fierce Diety mask, and the ancient battle begins again, but this time, Fierce Diety has the combined power of the Hero of Time! Hyrule's and Termina's heroes unite to defeat the enemy. They overcome, and Termina is saved. - loved your video Vortex. I know some of the things here were covered in the video but I think I made some tweaks that made sense in my head at least. I might add some more on later (I think I forgot some of what I was going to say) :p. Thanks!

MM and OoT were both heavily influenced by a culture where the major religions are Hinduism and Buddhism. The archetype of evil is something in eastern philosophy that is ever present, it is represented in the yin and the yang. You cannot have yin without yang or yang without yin, therefore you couldn't have evil without good or good without evil. So, in every role that evil may play, the archetype is always present, and that's what is beautiful about The Legend of Zelda. It is rooted in eastern philosophy, but articulated through the lens of Link's multiverse. The series of equilateral triangles, the fractal symbol of the triforce that represent the basic principles in physics, the incarnation of evil with a cycle without end represent the archetypes involved win the play good vs. evil... Being Lost in the woods of Ocarina of Time is reminiscence of innocence, child-like wonder that invokes a dream world filled with mystery and a sense of familiarity, the felt presence of the immediacy of experience, and standing in nature, in The Lost Woods. Being so involved in the game as to almost being able to smell the pollen in the air, the wind brushing against your skin, and the echo of a poe; the whirring of a peahat, and the rattle of scrubs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1kmKpjk_8E.html dzasv7x7a867v.cloudfront.net/product_photos/1793761/vision-crystal-scan-web_original.jpg

I beleive it to be the embodiment of the essence of the Hero of time. not the Hero himself. notice Link is the EXACT same physically, emotionally and personally. although each Link is a physcially different person. they all seem to be the EXACT same person. I think the Goddess intended the Hero of Time to be a single soul created to save the world indeffinatley. Each time evil threatens the world.. Link emerges. He is essentially the exact same being over and over but his physical body is all that changes (and it changes little to none) Link himself is an individual person but his soul is the only soul The Hero of Time possess.. in other words his body changes on a physical level with each new game in the franchise but his soul and mind are essentially the exact same entity throughout the the entire series.. I think the Fierce Deity is the manifestation of The Hero of Time in his most God-like form, it is the truest and most unaltered manifestation of The Hero of Time. A reflection of Links true soul if you will, but the soul is now unnattached from the physical world and therefore without human limits. :) anyone have input??

My theory: Majora created the current Fierce Deity mask because the original one was lost, still in the possession of Majora by the end of the game or destroyed by Majora at some point. Why would Majora make a Fierce Diety mask? Well, Majora envisioned all of the power that came from the emotions and memories housed in masks as godlike but, it had no doubts it could defeat a godlike being or at the very least, their godlike being. So to Majora, it would be the ultimate insult and ego boost to personally crush the power they represented. It looks and sounds like Link because he is simply the avatar that is transformed by all of that power. Basically, that is how Majora sees link once he absorbs all of that power. This would further explain why Majora goes insane as it loses since, it can't believe that not only is something more powerful than it, but that the thing beating it is the culmination of beings it looks down upon and ultimately it was responsible for creating. The fierce deity mask is questioned as being evil since Majora being a source of pure evil made it. That means that the Fierce Deity could possibly go corrupt in similar ways (either as long as Majora existed or in general) or at the very least, is something that can also be used for corrupt means. Essentially, the mask isn't good or evil (hence why it was questioned if it was like Majora or not) since it is neutral and it depends on who wears it. Someone like Link can do good things with it as we saw but someone with bad intentions could wreak similar havoc as Majora did.

I say the Fierce Deity contains the spirit of the NES link. Think about it, in the NES Zelda, you can obtain a white tunic and your sword shoots like how the Fierce Deity does. Plus the other transformation mask barely resemble Link aside from the clothes. Fierce Deity actually look like adult Link. They did the same thing with that sword training in Twilight Princess with Link meeting his ancestor.

Nintendo already tells us this when the 3 goddesses created the triforce, they created an infinite number of alternate universes. It would be nice to find more backstory, but it is wide open for good reason, any theory could apply to the undiscovered timelines. While we may want more details of THE STORY, the objective by design is to empower the player to experience their own adventure through Link, who's adventures are said to be infinite. I'm not saying every theory is cannon, but that according to official statements of the series involving rebirth and infinite parallel existences it's actually quite possible. To each Link, its own.

I like this theory! But I've been thinking, and I see it in a bit of a different way: the split between Hyrule and Termina isn't a causal split (like the "Hero is defeated" vs. "Hero is victorious" timeline split following OoT), but rather an actual time travel-related split (like the Child vs. Adult timeline split following OoT). My knowledge on the lore may be a bit rusty though, so if you see any problems let me know. In Skyward Sword, Link defeats Demise twice--once in the present using the Triforce, and once in the past in battle (taking his remains with him in the Master Sword, out of that timeline). This results in one timeline with an incarnation of the Goddess, of the Hero, and the soul of Demise to eventually return; plus a timeline where Demise is destroyed early, leaving no need for the Hero to reincarnate and thus no reason for Hylia to become a mortal to live with him. The former timeline becomes Hyrule, as we know. In the latter though, since Demise was never able to complete his objective, his spirit was left unfulfilled, exactly like the other spirits in MM that are transformed into masks--though it was fractured and taken away in the Master Sword, explaining why it doesn't have transformative powers. The spirit of Hylia's Chosen Hero may also have felt unfulfilled, for whatever reason (since we know very little of his story we can't tell what his life was like. Perhaps he felt regret because he was mortal and thus unable to continue to protect Hylia). Eventually both spirits would be turned into masks. If I'm right (again, I'm rusty with the lore), it may better explain why the Fierce Deity doesn't resemble Skyward Sword Link much at all (whereas all other mask transformations look a lot like their spirits), as well as why Majora's Mask isn't a transformative mask (although in your theory Zelda presumably would have done roughly the same thing to both Demise and Link, meaning their masks would presumably have roughly the same effect). It also better explains the portal between Hyrule and Termina, since they're both equally real timelines within the same universe, as opposed to a quantum split that would put them in separate worlds. What do you think about this? Sorry to comment on an old theory btw, I just recently discovered it :P

I like this theory but there is one that makes more sense where it talks about ghirahim being the soul in the mask and since link defeated demise his former master he is stuck with the insanity and anger preparing himself for the ultimate battle between him and the next hero when he sees this new link in the woods he gets mad and starts to think "this cannot be the hero he is just a kid the other was an adult that shot beams out of his sword, I want to fight the old hero" so he creates a link closest to the one that killed his master hence why he looks like link and why he shoots beams of the sword

It's an interesting theory, personally though I feel that the Fierce Deity Mask being a source of evil perhaps greater than Majora sorta fits the theme of Majora's Mask in that it takes established Zelda concepts and sort of "twists" them. Link using an evil power to defeat evil would be the counter to regular games where the hero uses the master sword to face evil threats. The shape and look of the Mask could also simply change depending on the wearer, rather than be an alternate form Termina's version of the Hero. Either way informative video as always!

The marks on the armor are a sickle (perhaps the Goddess's harp?) and the triforce on the side of the chest that would be courage. Also, the blade is blue and green, the colors used for Farore and Nayru (courage and wisdom), with no Din (power). Transformation masks comes from death, so I assume this is the first incarnation of the hero that died fighting for Hylia to imprison Demise.

***** This is my biggest gripe with translations and the people who decide thats its "better" to change something. Just changing that "little" Tag to Bad guys/Good guys changes that whole SCOPE of that fight it wasnt a fight to Majora. He was just playing while we were going in Guns Loaded. But this happens alot in games by changing subtle things it impact story and hurts the overall appearance of some games. IMO

While the side story in the manga is not canon I believe it provides an answer as to why Majora gives link the mask. The Demon resided in a place without time and easily bested anyone who tried to rob him of his magic armor. When the traveler beats his drum and brings time to the land the demon dies, but not without first feeling hope of time moving again. Majora is trapped in a 3 day cycle by Link who rewinds time with the ocarina. While it seems only he and possibly the Happy Mask Salesman are aware of the rewind, Majora may be aware of this too. When Link finally goes to the moon and proceeds past 3 days, Majora fears that if Link loses he will just rewind time again. So he provides Link with the mask. While Majora does want to harm Link, he wants to utterly crush him. If he does this with the extra power, Link will lose hope and give into defeat. If Link wins, Majora will be free from the endless cycle.

Majoras mask looks awefully lot like something from the twilight realms, look at midnas eye, or more specifically, her statue helm. Resembles majoras mask pretty well. What about the dark cutscene in twilight princess where links eyes are white? They are in the same timeline and wouldnt suprise me that the description of the fierce diety "A mask containing dark power of the Fierce Deity" would fit with that dark cutscene in twilight princess where link could be seen as evil. "Those who do not know the danger of wielding power will, before long, be ruled by it." I dont really know what it means for link to have the Fierce deity mask. But linking Majora with twilight can be something atleast.

@captainwhiteshadow
@captainwhiteshadow 9 лет назад
I think the Goddess Hylia may have been created by Din, Nayru, and Farore, or be related to them somehow, like a daughter. She seems to have a little bit of all their powers. Nayru is the Goddess of Wisdom, but the Oracle Nayru (who I believe is the human incarnation of goddess, like Zelda is to Hylia) has control over time-and Zelda has both wisdom and time control powers. Hylia was also able to create, according the the comic in Hyrule Historia, the Goron tribe (and others I believe), much like how Farore created all other life in Hyrule. And Hylia had great power, enough to seal away the Demon King and rip a chunk of the earth out of the ground to send the Hylians into the sky-power being Din's forte.

Vortexxy,what if Majora had other motives in bringing the moon down? If you consider the moon as a part of a world,but unreachable by mortals(Zelda wise) but stone tower would have enabled someone to get the Fierce Deity mask onto the moon and if Hylia was involved it would have made things even easier. This is just something I remembered talking to a friend about way back that came to me when I was watching another vid. The full thing is basically the moon wouldave destroyed Termina,but Majora was expecting Link to become possessed by Fierce Deity and wanted to use him as a outsider of Termina to destroy the other worlds as well,like Hyrule. Thats why Majora offered Link the mask,he was expecting a mental battle that would turn them both into a mindless monster to be loosed onto the other lands to bring destruction to all worlds. We know Skull Kid and Majora were in the Lost Woods when they ran into Link,Majora had to have some reason for being there in what I assume at the start was Hyrule's Lost Woods when all of its current plans and activities are taking place in Termina.

I like this ttheory, but I see it in a slightly different light; I view the Majora, Fierce Deity, Goddess of Time trio as the Terminian equivalent to Demise, Link, and Zelda/Hylia. So the Goddess of Time in Termina isn't Hylia or her mortal form Zelda, but Termina's own version of Hylia or Zelda. Think of Termina like you would Lorule. Lorule has its own Triforce, its own Zelda, its own Link. I think Termina was the same way. It may or may not have had its own Triforce, but it definitely had its own versions of Link, Zelda, and Demise. Events similar to what happened in Skyward Sword most likely happened in both Lorule and Termina, creating the never-ending curse where Majora's hatred is forever reincarnated alongside the Fierce Deity and the Goddess of Time, however, Termina's version of Zelda, rather than sealing Majora's Spirit in their version of the Master Sword, sealed the spirits of Majora and the Fierce Deity inside masks, perhaps even sealing herself in a mask somewhere, and so when Link and the Skull Kid come into possession of these masks, they're merely playing out the curse of Majora.

Nice theory there is a lot of interesting thing you said. But the one that struck me the most is the Tag thing. It make so much sense. (off topic and a niptpick of mine) But it got me thinking at the end of OOT Zelda probably didn't just send back link DIRECTLY into is child time before the assault on Hyrule. I guess she warp him back to the temple and bless him with an enchantment with the help of the Ocarina, so that the next time he place the Master sword in it pedestal it would take him to a time before the Assault as oppose to after like it usually does. And since he is coming back to a time here he didn't pull the master sword has a child, severing the connection between the past and future hence the birth of the adult and child time line. Otherwise that would mean that not only there is no OOT link in adult timeline, but also no master sword since he didn't put it back in the time. It would mean that child time line has two master swords since he is send back some time before the ganon assault on the castle (probably even before his first encounter with zelda).

Plot hole: It takes Seven Years to become to Hero of Time and strong enough to defeat Ganon who took seven years to actually conquer. Instead of being sent forward in time, Link had the time in the world to go to Termina (which only lasts three days) and come back stronger than his adult form WITH the masks, specifically Fierce Deity, and then woops Ganon before he's even able to conquer, making OoT story obsolete.

I believe that when Link wears the Fierce Deity's Mask, he is still mortal, he can still get hurt and die. You know how in Twilight Princess we meet the heroes shade? I believe that before Link died of old age, he was fighting a great evil, possibly Majora reincarnated. I believe that Link ended Majora once and for all, however he used up all his energy. he died a few hours later with the Fierce Deity's Mask still on. However because he died, he no longer has access to his godlike powers, or his double helix sword, using the guided sword and mirror shield.

We've actually gotten an answer to this I'm afraid. Zelda Informer reported an article in which Aonuma confirmed the mask is a fusion of the twenty masks you give away (or at least its power is the fusion/ sum of the happiness imbued in those masks). It makes sense thematically: you're defeating Majora with the combined strength of all the people you've saved/ it threatened.

Majora is a transformation mask. it just doesnt need a host to do so. it itself transforms on its own into majora's incarnation and majora's wrath. Perhaps it itself has Flesh sealed away?
@YellowMageMarsail
@YellowMageMarsail 9 лет назад
A thing to know about Majora, is that it can be defeated. By the wearer. Majora can only steal the host's energy if it breaks their will. However, if the wearer's will is made of steel, then Majora won't be able to use you. The opposite in fact.

When you beat Majora, the happy mask salesman says that the evil left the mask and when you try to use any transformation masks if you decide to get the Fierce Deity, none of them are usable for whatever reason. Therefore, I theorize that the Fierce Deity mask also lost its power after the fight, so whether Link kept the mask or hid it away, it really shouldn't matter. And as for the other masks, just remember that Link gave them all up to the children on the moon.

In the new game, Triforce Heroes, after obtaining the Fierce Deity's (yes, possesive) Armor, townspeople in the hub will say things like "That armor looks like the what the fierce deity wore!" implying the deity is dead. Trip the clown say that the armor "Makes you look like a villain!" This points toward an evil god that has been defeated. Also, the manga isn't canon...

Hey Vortex, Please add that theories that incorporate more recent Zelda Games like Skyward Sword (I count it in as recent, because there is no further "big console" game right now) contain Spoilers !!! I could not know that a theory of the Fierce Deity, that is actually a Majoras Mask item/theme, incorporates elements of Skyward Sword! I have just been starting Skyward Sword and I already know why the game serves as a starting point for the timeline (you spoilered the end...) and who/what Hylia is.... Kind of annyoing :( Anyway, keep up the good work.
@justinkomora4518

I enjoy the thoery that Demise comes from Lorule and personally i view him as the Lorule counterpart to Hylia. He rose from the depths of earth (maybe from a portal into Hyrule). He wanted the triforce so much and tried to steal it, but the sages destroyed it instead to keep Demise from getting it. Then he learned of Hyrule's Triforce so he found a way to Hyrule to steal it but the Goddess Hylia fought him to keep him from stealling it and ended up sealing him away. Only issue with that theory is that i'm unsure WHEN the sages in Lorule destroyed the trifoce. It might have been said, or at least implied, that it took place the same time the trifoce would have been sealed in the sacred realm in Hyrule. If that's true my theory wouldn't work. But if it's possible it was destroyed in ancient times then maybe. This also assumes that Lorule and Hyrule's timelines are parallel with eachother.

Fierce Deity Plant Proof in Breath of the Wild - For Sure but Not Really but Yeah or Maybe Just Okay. I think this is the best interpretation of the Fierce Deity Mask for me so far. It doesn't have to be correct for me at this point as sparse as details are but I wanted to flesh something out for myself since I'm dorking out on BotW so hard. I got tired of constantly switching outfits in Breath of the Wild for different set buffs since there's no "Equip Set" option. As such, I started wearing the Fierce Deity Mask for attack up, the Climber's Shirt for an improvement in climbing speed and the Salvager's Trousers for increased swimming speed. It's a fashionable combination and feels like a natural upgrade for the Fierce Deity imagery much in the same way as the Hero of the the Wild, Link. I picked this combination out of more than visuals. That way if I'm trying to escape battle I always have the proper buff without swapping constantly. As such, I now call my gameplay experience Fierce Deity of the Wild and I'm dyeing all of my outfits to match the original scheme. The plants needed to replicate the color scheme is interesting and deserves notice. It could totally be coincidence but even if it is it's the happiest accident ever. First, I dye the whole outfit white with Silent Princess 5x. Then I remove the shirt and dye the pants and hat with the Blue Nightshade (?name?) that is in abundance near Kakariko Village - near the Shieka. Then I remove the pants and dye the hat light blue using Silent Princess again. Considering the Silent Princess flower prominence with Zelda and the Master Sword along with the Blue Nightshade near Kakariko Village fairy fountain I'd like to draw connections there and assume the Fierce Deity power is derived from the Silent Princess and the Blue Nightshade for the royal blue (first tube) color. I may do a video on it when I launch my Game Boy channel. I'm going to attach a Fierce Deity challenge to it when I do.

You know, if you really think about it, Termina is more "advanced" in the chain than Hyrule is. Termina found a way to circumvent the cycle, rather than just letting it continue to occur like they do in Hyrule. Yes, the masks are imperfect, but there's no such thing as a perfect fix. In the big picture, though, they are effective in at least reducing the number of catastrophes, as they only occur when someone stumbles across Majora's mask every couple of thousand years.
@ToasterJam
@ToasterJam 9 лет назад
I have a bit of a theory on the game as a whole...Considering it to be an alternate Hyrule, perhaps Termina has an entire Timeline as Hyrule does. What if Nintendo is hiding an entirely new timeline in Hyrule Historia from us? In the Adult Timeline after OoT, we see how there is the time without a hero. What if Majora's Mask takes place in the Termina Timeline during that same time? Also meaning it's Termina's time without a hero, which is why Link is there and the Fierce Deity isn't in the first place. What if Nintendo is hiding a game that takes place Before Wind Waker from us? A sort of Majora's Mask 2 in which instead of playing Link, we would be whoever the Fierce Deity is. Idk, it sounded better in my head and my grammar got screwed up and it just became writing the ideas haha!

watching this and seeing the tree makes me think of the "link is dead/stalfos theory". most people's problem with that theory is that they dont know what majora is meant to represent. missing out on his childhood. OOT has strong themes about the uncertainty of the future and not growing up too fast, and that was links main gripe with his destiny and what his destiny took away from him. this would also explain why he in search of navi. for two reasons. A. he never got to be a kid with his fairy guardian, and B. he wanted to leave the kokiri because of the memories of OOT. anyway. majora is someone who "just wants to have fun" and wants to so bad that he is willing to tear down everything for his goal. however his reason seems to be revenge. you see him isolated from the other masks in the moon. beside a tree. which was the only landmark. surrounded by calmness. just like dark link in the water temple!. the fierce deity mask represents true maturity. it can only be gained by doing 100% completion. think about it. how much side mission fucking about do you need to do in order to get that mask? then when majora is defeated, link dies in with inner piece. this is my theory.. and yes i know the theory was declared non canon, but fuck you it makes MM more interesting

This is what I think it is. Nitendo accidentaly mixed up both the manga and the story of the game together. The Fierce Deity was no other then the warrior that carved the mask from Majora after dancing and destroying itself. The game itself also points to that like the dancing man at night, Majora dancing, and on. These two legends are mixed up. Remember, that the HMS said that he got the mask on great lengths, which could mean that the warrior...is actually the HMS. He gives you the Song of Healing, which turns spirits into masks, but the HMS died, and couldn't obtain Majora's Mask anymore. He wasn't sleeping in the Lost Woods, he was dead!. The HMS spirit wants you to find the Majora's Mask, so he can rest in peace. Isn't it weird that he stays in the Clock Tower and wants YOU to look for it?. Why?. Because he's a spirit. At the moon tree, Majora gives you the FDM, but the one having the Majora's mask on at that time is HMS child form, so this all points to Majora referencing HMS, being the warrior that carved him long ago, used his dark powers with hexing rituals, but was considered dangerous and was hidden for centuries. That is why I see the connection that the manga is a bit true to the story.

Question: how long do you think Skull Kid had Majora's mask for? If I remember correctly, there's an old lady that tells you stories in the inn at Clock Town about the giants and how they left. But, Skull Kid knew them long before they left. So, did he steal the mask from the Happy-Mask salesman and messed with everyone for years and years? Or did he only have it for a short amount of time?

I believe that majora might be a powerful demon under Demise's command but was defeated by the original hero who sealed him in a mask in a last ditch effort to stop him. During the battle the FD was mortally wounded and with his remaining straight sealed his power within the mask while allowing his spirit to be reincarnated when hylia needed him.

Hey, amazing video, very interesting, I really like the idea of Majora and FD being counterparts to Demise and Link, I subscribed :) I played a free Zelda fan game a few months ago, the legend of zelda: Oni-Link Begins, it explored a bit of the origins of the Fierce Deity, its non-conical so its basically just a theory aswell, Il share its storyline with you, hope you find it interesting. SPOILERS After the events of "ALTTP" and "ROTH" Link is suffering from a curse, he has gained divine power but is unable to control it, at times he becomes possessed and transformes into The Fierce Deity,since link is unable to harness his new power it transforms him into a merciless killing machine. Zelda has no choice but to banish him to Termina, while there he must seek out Holy Grails to break he's curse, you find them after completing dungeons, I cant remember how many maybe 7 or 9, once all are collected Link realises he has made a terrible mistake, he has broken he's curse, he can no longer be possessed but instead the Fierce Deity can freely inhabit the world without a human host, that normally wouldnt be a bad thing but the wicked grails have corrupted him, I think he was originally an angel sent by the Goddesses to eradicate evil from the world, but after collecting the grails he becomes a fallen angel hell bent on destroying everthing, I dont want to give away too many more spoilers but the final dungeon is the enormous Xantos Temple, Xantos Temple is the entrance to the underworld where all evil souls go, that backs up the "Termina is Purgatory theory", after you defeat the FD as the final boss, he revives himself with full health, he does this evertime you defeat him, he is a divine being there is no way to kill him but you can seal he's spirit into a mask, once he falls to the floor but before he revives himself you must play a very special song on the Ocarina Of Time to seal he's Spirit into an empty spirit mask, like the spirit of the Shrub, Goron and Zora in MM. I dont know what became of the Fierce Deity Mask after that, I assume it wasnt seen again until MM.

Your theory videos are really great. I've watched a few by now and some aspects were really mind-blowing. :) This one is also a very interesting one. I just started to wonder about the origin of Majora's Mask. There's a short comic story about its creation made by Akira Himekawa in which it is shown that the mask is carved out of the remaining body parts of a powerful being. I haven't found anything in Hyrule Historia about whether this is considered canon or not but I might have to check a second time. Do you know anything about that? :) But I think your theory about where Majora's Mask comes from is very plausible. Keep up the good work with these videos! ^^

I don't know if anyone has said this but if they did I feel like it would be good to restate it. The one who actually created Majora's mask was the Fierce Deity according to the manga version by his control over the flow of time, Also while I agree that Majora, the Goddess of Time, and the Fierce deity symbolizes their hylian courter parts it could be possible that Majora's mask was always sentient they never really went into great detail of how heinous the Ancient Tribes' "hexes" were they only gave us the end result and while the end result was horrific it could have been that the Ancient tribe was fooled by the mask into worshiping it and it. Also Going along with the stone towers reference to the tower of babel with the ancient tribe's attempt to reach the heavens it could have be Majora seeking to enter the world of hyrule.
