my dad worked for a Doctor who was a katana enthusiast, and had a collection of over 200. some of the most equisite works of art ive ever seen. i wonder if Honjo was among them.

Actually i´ve been reading about the honjo masamune and the most common version of it´s history says that Shimazu Yoshihiro got the sword from the council of five elders in 1599(after Hideyoshi´s death) for his successful campain during the war in Korea; He presented the sword to Ieyasu after Ieyasu became Shogun.

I contacted the family of Cole D. B. Moore a few years ago. They were fascinated by the story as it was the first they've heard of it, but claimed he had not taken any swords back as a prize.

the US soldier name Biltmore was friend of a french swords and antiques collector, I know the story, he sold the sword (cerimonial katana relic) to his friend after the war, said it was a precious ancient relic of the noble Tokugawa family, keep from generations, and said they believe it has magic powers,if its not Honjo Masamune its other very important sword, it has very nice tsuba flower shape the blade is some rusty but very sharp, and shows signs that partecipate in many batlles.

I married into a family that fled Okinawa with Alaskan US fighter pilots. Everyone and their dog brought swords back alot of them ended up in pawnshops and antique stores or they are still in some little old ladies closet for probably 5-7 more years sadly there's not many people on either side alive from WW2 anymore.

BTW the grandmother used to tell me all kinds of crazy stories about Japan pre WW2 ,even tsukumogami where objects that are over 100 years old can come alive like in a Disney film! Lol silly but fun and from a different world and language and life philosophy so beautiful

Once MacArthur learned some swords were important cultural heirlooms and not so much weapons, he allowed certain exemptions, it was unfortunately too little too late, it had slipped by before then. I like to think it survived and is _somewhere,_ unfortunately a lot of heirloom swords were thrown in with the mass produced ones officers used and melted down (American GIs at the time being ignorant of the differences). The best we can hope for is someone took it as a war trophy and it eventually falls in to someone's hands who is willing to return it to Japan. Germany's treasures shared a similar fate, today many believe they are in the basements of the Kremlin and Smithsonian.

If I ever ended up with something like that I would offer it back to Japan for a token 1% of what they say its worth and a free trip around Japan to visit some of its historical sights.

Hey nice work mate! There is just one thing that most of people usually don't know and it is very crucial to katanas. Father of original katana forger Goro Nyudo Masamuno was Hura Nyudo Masamuno. He lived a very long time on Hokaido, Japan. Hura Nyudo was a great inventor, he invented dagger and bow and arrow. One night there was no wind and some local village magician came to him and said: 'Sensei Hura can you forge golden ring that is very special?'. Hura Nyudo made 7 rings: 4 to elves, 4 to dwarfs and 7 to men. But he made one additional ring which had written: 'One ring to rule them all'. Time passed and Hura Nyudo didn't grow old. He was 108 years old and he looked like a 25 year old man. One day a white wizard came knocking on his door and the rest is a legend.

The honjo masamune was first owned by Katsumasa tozenji(also known as Umanosuke) and he was a general along with his brother Yoshinaga!! the story goes something like this: In 1588, Kagekatsu UESUGI directed Shigenaga HONJO and Yoshikatsu MUTO to attack Oura-jo Castle in September and October. On the other hand, the Tozenji brothers decided to meet the enemy in the field; so the troops confronted one another at Jugorigahara. Although the battle was initially a pitched battle, the Uesugi's allied troops, who outnumbered those of Mogami, gradually drove their opponent into a corner. Yoshinaga TOZENJI charged the opponent's headquarters and died there. When Katsumasa(Umanosuke) was informed of his brother's death, he also charged the opponent's headquarters alone and made a surprise attack on Shigenaga HONJO with his sword; but he was killed by Shigenaga and his close retainers. Katsumasa's stroke was so heavy that a part of Shigenaga's helmet was cut off from the region of the temple to below the ear. The sword Katsumasa used at this time was the noted Masamune sword, which was later passed into the hands of Shigenaga HONJO to be renamed Honjo Masamune (the noted sword "Masamune" once owned by Shigenaga HONJO).

How do we so sure that the katanas surrendered by the Japanese warlords, royals etc are the original ? No one shared the possibility of the opposite ie they pretended giving up the fakes and keep the original knowing that no one then who really can tell the difference ? Even the Japanese commoners like farmers wouldn't, I'll bet, especially if it is intended like forging the alike with good materials.... 🤔😄😄

I am here because.. who ? I studied Lord Date Masamune en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_Masamune. I co-created a "mengu" the Menpo in TF2, to go with the one eyed dragon's helmet someone else had made in the past. I had no idea of how deep this rabbit hole was gonna go. Did things that you would never believe and say 100% i was cheating, and... without knowing it, my mind was back in school when we learnt the derivative or whatever of the other function and you get ? volume of a sphere instead. Oh cool circles are so cool. Area of a circle.. this "pie" and volume of a sphere !! bit after that I quit, school was over, life was this "hard" thing.. so.. cruise control was on. I was automatically performing some reverse algorithm as I had drilled the motor control for single movements, over and over, then played, tuned my sensitivity etc for QUAKING.. fast action reactions deathmatch over internet (thanks GOD John Carmack... lol Elon ? Carmack is like his daddy and Elon probably uses the gyro he invented long before SpaceX existed) 3D rendering.. gaming online. Yawn.. renderers more more proper ways of doing things, standards standards, simplify simplify, modular architecture, idtech6 or DOOM 2016. idTech666 as they joked. Ended up making Armadillo Aerospace after offending the tifosi lol. Turbo on a FERRARI how dare he ! the interview with Rogan is legendary. Literally "brain on legs" at his child court hearing. Rehabbed, nice family iirc America functional af, off he goes. lol.. bored by this point so.. yeah fix this Oculus Rift thing because what a joke that that that were all wrong, done. Bored again.. ended up hired and metaverse work started before anyone "cool" out there was even thinking about saying it. Before Japanese "john smith" created Bitcoin and showed how you can use math to enforce truth, and defeat fear. Trustless, elliptic curve cryptography. The nature of reality itself supports it, with simple solutions to prevent breaks by quantum computing. And now we are even getting "QUANTUM 2.0" as expected. It'll be everywhere buzzword soon, look at the Steelseries PRIME mouse. It has Quantum 2.0 Wifi. Its basically the wifi equivalent of a superfast, supersmart, automatic network that acts like those seamless shift F1 gearboxes now. They have two gear racks. One is pre loaded, one is active. The switch action, is literally seamless with a simple logical design. Same thing happens with the clicking motion which is impressive too, simple rethink of the problems ? far more fidelity, accuracy, precision.. all the benefits come TOGETHER. They have two channels in the RELATIVITY ranged spectrum. One is the current strong signal, the other is the backup, and it is always checking for the need for a switch. Bad wifi moments ? gone. One day all wifi will work like this, and piggybacking, 5G IoT and last mile solutions will mean low latency, redundant fast, everywhere. Star.link is also better science, light is faster in a vacuum, straight lines instead of optic fiber wrapped around planet etc etc.. but anyway. "TRILEMMA" is a myth ;) just saying. But.. too many tangents.. Anyway years later I discover I'm not a square. Yeah school was easy but I dropped out, weird peers and this "popular" thing.. the 90's... and the weird "limit math". I just like this gaming thing.. move my mouse I can.. do some thing and yeah I'll just do that. Drilling a 2D translation to 3D space in the way it is done with 3D mouse input (never look straight up or down, you cant aim, you can only spin). 2+9 = 11 a two. yes symmetry etc all makes sense 29+11 = 40 = 4.. the wonderful square. Makes for good logical process thinkers like mechanical engineers. I was going to be an accountant. Then in school I liked science even more.. then i disliked it all and got yelled at etc, said Pluto's not a planet boss.. said this chemistry shit is just weird.. and this math shit is just.. what the fuck.. without the swearing lol. It was all just pointless.. I'm a triangle.. look up the 28th of Nov ? 28+11=39 not just any 3, the 13x3 ! SLN.me/app dial 3 for operator look yourself up. Astrology official died already. Never bother again, interactive now.. so what ? what is this shit you think ? I had only read my page from their first book over 20yrs ago, or a single "paradigm" in technology these days. It blew my mind, and the 29th seemed to be me, explained lots of things. Even the mental mantra or meditation "language data" i'll call it was profound and useful. "emotions can be calmed with the breath" But.. Australia the 29th, AM.. being born.. 28th probably should look that up now I was shown this site exists and whoa those things are cool. One day near the end of hindsight year, I did look it up. And then I see that shape.. Lord Masamune's Helmet.. and the sensation as I looked would give you chills LONE WOLF.. holy shit EDIT: oops, thought it through and realised remembering dates a bit wrong. CEO of Oculus before Ethereum though, Oculus Rift announced April 2012, CEO move 2013. Ethereum 2014. And on that note the all important ChainLink and IC3 2015-2025+
