Legendary actress Kathy Bates has probably lost count of how many awards she has been nominated for and won. But very few people know about her battles with cancer, her family history of suicide attempts, or her own struggles with PTSD and depression.
On this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu, Kathy Bates talks about gratitude, moments of grace, and the fact that you don’t have to be perfect to be remarkable. Along the way she tells stories of healing and tragedy, life and death, and memorably explains why she always thanks the crew.
Check out Kathy's work with the Lympathic network: lymphaticnetwork.org/

“You have to just slow down. You have to cut out all the noise. You have to respect yourself.” [33:50]
“That’s why I always thank the crew. I’d be dancing around in an empty parking lot in my underwear just spouting lines without everybody. Even marketing people, PR people, everybody makes a movie.” [42:27]

Seeing how she is as a person? You mean this piece of advertisement meant to make you think she is a certain way, rather than the shit evil characters she plays on tv. I don't think I ever met somebody so stupid who thought they actually were seeing a real person in a planned scripted interview. You internet educated children never cease to amaze me

John D ,your comment is endearing! I agree, seeing someone perform and share their talents and gifts is wonderful. But seeing an interview when they actually share themselves and their life experiences is definitely a gift for those of us that admire them. Wonderful interview! Wonderful lady!

@@stephenhargrave7922 Whether it's true or not, the value I get by taking the points I feel are worth utilizing is what's important to me with these types of interviews. I agree that we should be skeptical, and a lot of what she said is likely just regurgitated scripted points on a checklist to make her image/brand look good, but I always hope that there is at least a small but of truth to some of what she says. That's what I focus on. Using ideas and stories that can improve my own life in some way. So thank you for your opinion, and I hope whatever you work on in life is at or gets to a point of success that you feel fulfilled by :) And I feel flattered that I amazed you! ☺️

J Carver I’m very curious about the potential true motives behind the show itself, and I’ve been trying to find some opinions about what it is really meant to be used for. I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on how it’s “sickening”? Do you feel that it’s purely being used as a medium for the guests to sell their product and improve their brand to the public? Do you think Tom is purely using it as a way to make a bigger name for himself and create a platform that gains more for himself by seducing us with “improvement” and “self-help”? Id love to hear anyone’s opinion for either side, since none of us should be entirely dogmatic about our beliefs. Thanks in advance to anyone who might respond :)

Kathy Bates is grace. I heard some of this story in another interview, and this extended story touches my inner self with gratitude. I suffer from chronic fatigue for three years at 71. A time which is my time to learn to live listening to what I need, after serving a narcissistic mother all my life. She finally died in 2020, at 96. Then my husband has been laid off from his truck driving job for ageism. I’m in fear because I’m the fixer with no energy to fix. I will watch this over and over to hear this insight. Thank you❤This is a channel of hope. Thank you

Few interviews today drill deep into the origins of an individual's significance. Here we have sweet exposure to a truly authentic and enduring effect. Observe the comments. Do you see that we bring to life the gifts, brutally toxic or profoundly delightful, for others to ponder, choose between and grow thereby? I am fed by all commenters. Glean well, die smiling.

I relate to Kathy so much! My parents were older when they had me, my siblings were 12 and 14 years older than me. Her parents said same things to me about learning all this stuff then we die, not behaving “common”. I also wish my mom had access to the antidepressants that have helped me so much. Really connected to her! Thank you Tom! Namaste

YEEEAAA BUDDY... Kathy Bates is my favorite actress of all time. I've seen all her movies, the first roll I ever saw her in was "Misery" and last night I was watching "American Horror Story" for the 3rd time and Kathy is freaking awesome. I love her style so much because she is so raw and real and she reminds me of how my grandma raised me. INTENSE!!! I also read about her comeback story in time magazine. She is an amazing actress. Thanks for sharing this interview tom.

It's inspiring when people are real about their human insecurities and share what touches their spirit to keep going. What I admire Kathy Bates most for, she put herself in front of the camera no matter what her size or how she felt about herself. She is incredibly relatable because of her imperfection.

My partner and I own a sober living in Malibu, and every Sunday evening we sit down with our clients to watch an episode of Impact Theory. We have been doing this for about the last year and a half out of the almost 8 years that we have been operating; and I must share with you that within this time, our occupancy rate has gone from an average of 63% to 87% full, and the average length of stay of each client (which often includes length of sobriety as long as the client stays sober once they move out) has increased from 3.8 months to 5.5 months! Holding this Impact Theory gathering is the one change for the better that we made starting in September 2018, and we attribute this progress to our Sunday night meetings. To Tom, to everyone at Impact Theory, and to your interviewees, you all are helping us help others stay sober for longer, and we sincerely thank you!
