@@raosiddharth4726 ay I'm just saying Nico was the first one to get dirty. Plus if merc were really on Lewis' side, they would've never swapped mechanics in 2016.
I agree that this is a hell of an achievement, but they were certain circumstances fot it to happen. From 2010 to 2012 he faced a way past his prime MSC (he was 41-43 years of age during that time) and then in his 4 years against Hamilton, he was able to beat him just once while Lewis' car had way more mechanical failures.I still think it was well deserved because Lewis seemed to lack concentration at some parts of the season, but again Nico's career is a difficult one to judge
Imo, Rosberg was underrated until he left, with a few years of complete Hamilton domination only then did people realise just how good Nico was to continually push Lewis
Vettel is not gonna be missed. He's turned into a hippie, advocating for the climate mafia. No one really believes he does that out of his own conviction, of course he's being paid by the climate mafia to bring forth their propaganda.
@@justadummy8076 and some of Lewis fans (I hope only some) still can't accept than Nico simply performs better than him in 2016 Vettel is very interesting one, because until very recently, he was also booed by the same fans that is now appreciating him
@@hectornecromancer5308well, not sure he outright performed better, some bad luck for Hamilton gave rosberg the opportunity, but Rosberg talent and effort allowed him to capitalise on it and win.
Had no idea Nico was so intelligent. And that's not a dig to the guy. Never thought he wasn't but not on that analytical level described. Pretty impressive.
7:10 "Modified gloves for better starts". Guess that paid off, given how good Nico was off the line that year, and how terrible Hamilton's race-starts were in 2016. People say Lewis lost because of Malaysia, but for anyone who actually watched the season, they'd know it was Lewis' horrible starts where he lost tons of points.
Considering there are only 3 champions in the entire 2010's. He was an excellent driver but he's too salty despite running away from the fight that was coming back for him.
While it may have seemed odd to some when he announced his retirement, when you know what he put himself through to achieve that title it’s perfectly understandable that he felt that it was unsustainable.
2016 Rosberg me ght be the most motivated driver in F1 history period. He come with a mission and do everything to achieve it. Once its done. Its done.
If there was a F1 hall of fame (which there totally should be) both Nico and Keke Rosberg would both be shoe ins, the only father-son duo to both win world championships
I find it impressive all that extreme preparation he went through to win the title by just 5 points over the then partying/socialite Lewis. Ultimately it was a shame he didn't come back for 2017.
Fantastic video. I always wanted to learn more about Nico and you did all the hard work to sum it all up. Thank you. I love Nico as a sky pundit, now I know why he seems so intelligent.
9:29 Didn't see that coming, tho. 🤣🤣🤣 Last race of 2016, I don't think Seb really pressurised Nico. I watched that race despite not being an F1 fan back then, I was only curious since the news were all over this massive silver arrows battle in the last round. I saw no serious move from Seb. I mean, let's be frank here, Seb is a German, Nico is a German, why would Seb want to deny another title for the country when he really had nothing to lose back then? So in a way, Lewis' strategy in slowing the pace to make Nico got caught up in the pack didn't really work since it was Seb who sat in 3rd. If it were Max or Daniel, maybe it would be a different story. Even if it were Kimi, I don't think Kimi would take that 2nd place, since Nico can also be a Finnish in Kimi's eye. 🤝🏼
nico is finnish german who lives in monaco. If there was any help from seb, It has nothing to do with the driver's nationality. more about which driver did seb prefer to win.
@@arc4055 Bro people only care about what flag people driver under, it's not like Germany looked up Nico's ancestry results and decided 2016 was only half of a victory.
Had Nico Hülkenberg joined Merc instead of Lewis in 2013 Nico Rosberg would be almost certainly a 7-time world champion and considered one of the goats. He was like an A-/A driver, blazingly fast, almost a generational talent. The golden boy, son of a world champion BUT Lewis is like an A+ driver, just above Nico in skill but not by much. Edit. I know what some of ya'll are thinking and no, Seb wouldn't have won either in 2017 or 2018. Ferrari has been cursed ever since 2008 when they decided to "sabotage" Kimi and favour Felipe to get Alonso in a year early
Hey dude idk if you know about this theres a dude called "vizeh" covering youtube topics copying your style of youtube thumbnails & editing. Idk if you know him but im just putting it out there.
Massive respect for his racing ability, tenacity, intelligence and knowledge. Clearly deserves his WDC, if not more. But boy, he can be so embarassing in front of a camera.
Hear me out, he could have won so much more than just 1 wdc. Atleast 2, maybe even 3. He mainly was the reason why Mercedes put Bottas after him, to gift Lewis his wins and championships. That’s not to disrespect Lewis in any way. But he clearly was always in favor of the team.
Nico Rosberg was a great driver, but in my opinion, Mercedes and their politics ruined him and his love of the sport. I can respect team orders and keeping both drivers in check, but I hand over heart believe that Toto Wolff forced Rosberg to follow team orders and made sure he didn't challenge Hamilton unless Lewis's car or strategy didn't workout. I know many will argue and no I don't have any proof, but I remember those seasons and Rosberg went from fighting to giving up and that comes from bullshit behind closed door politics
@@Fredhamleclerc well if you were around then and saw the drama, you would think differently as well. It isn't uncommon for F1 teams to force a second driver to follow team orders.
Nico isn't a better driver than lewis but he comoensated that w his brilliant technical brain. imo beating hamilton at his peak in a mercedes alone is worth at least 2, if not 3 worth of titles. btw hamilton is the GOAT, not schumacher. bcs he dominated rich white men's sport 7x as a black person n came from humble beginnings. n he is still the only black person to ever drive an F1 car until today
Totally disagree on your last line that he's a 'natural'. I think all that work he put in to beat Lewis in 2016 is evidence that he's anything but a natural. A very good driver. But Lewis is the natural, Nico had to work for it. And all to beat him by 5 points. Seems like a more interesting and correct conclusion in my opinion.
He is a natural, but not as fast and naturally gifted as lewis, the fact he always was cerebral was the edge he had over lewis in 2016 complementing his natural talent
he can't really be underrated when sky give him a 10min segment every race to roast the fuck out of Lewis if he's doing bad or dick ride like there's no tomorrow if he's doing good.
@@toomuchdebt5669 who knows what happened behind the scene. Especially when things so heated up at the end of 2016 where Mercedes can't keep both of them together anymore
Not only that, 2016 Formula 1 World Drivers Champion Nico Rosberg, who beat 7 times Formula 1 World Drivers Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton in equal machinery also beat 7 times Formula 1 World Drivers Champion Michael Schumacher in equal machinery
It’s crazy to me that Nico scored the highest on that engineering aptitude test. Nigel Mansell was an aerospace engineer prior to F1, so if he had taken it when he joined Williams, that really puts Nico’s depth of knowledge into perspective
Our Nige was an engineer? Never heard of this, he was that uninterested in the technical side of F1 to the point of not even staying in the paddock ans going off to play golf instead on the days when Coulthard was testing the Williams
i've always had huge respect for him just because of how he left the sport, knowing all the stress it brings. Dude got what he wanted and dipped; mad respect
I think it depends on the perspective. You could have the perspective you described, but there is also the one that shows how sad it is, that he was unwilling to compete further with the hunger to get a huge legacy.
@@BowlingOGs69 yeah but that’s precisely why he’s one of my favorites. He’s not a WC possessed with achieving more like others WC(not taking anything away from other WCs, but that trait to want to keep racking more World championships is kinda common among world champions), he was able to see a life beyond f1 very early on. You saw that with vettel towards the later stages of his career, he really started to care about his family a lot. Idk there’s something about this sport that makes drivers so tunnel focused on winning that they forget there’s a life outside f1, even Max has started to realize this(don’t get me wrong, max is still hungry for WCs but he’s starting to realize it too)
@@dcode1000 for me thats totally understandable. But I can also see the other perspective. I mean he made the most out of what he got I would say, thats very impressive. And you definetly have a good point there. I also think it is hard to judge how hard the reality really is and how much dedication they need to bring, in general i have huge respect for the top guns for there passion and commitment
In Germany there is a saying that goes "Gehen, wenn es am schönsten ist" which translates to "Leave, when everything is beautiful/at its peak" I have mad respect for him either way, if he left or if he stayed. Dude was just a great racer.
I think Nico had more raw speed tbh. Getting 27 poles while driving the same car as Hamilton is a remarkable achievement. Guy pushed Lewis on track like only Fernando did during 2007. It'll be really tough for Carlos to emulate that.
@@canchero724 That’s a fair assessment, yeah. Nico’s speed is very good. I’m not saying I think Carlos will or won’t win one (as much as I want him to!!), just that he’ll maximise his chances using Nico as a role model :)
Some people say he's a coward for not defending his title and just quit while he's on top but what these people don't know is what it takes to go toe to toe with hamilton that he has to sacrifice his family time...and says he won't do it again so he walked away a champion....and kudos to that and enjoy his life after racing with his family....
@@ChristopherBuenviaje I'm sure a lot of Germans were calling Lewis all kinds of slurs during the silver war just like the Spaniards did in 2007 and the Dutch did in 2021. You can't really control your fans unless you're Checo.
@Boniface Lukosi Fair enough. But it really got worse. In my opinion Lewis's passive aggressive remarks were always meant to weaponize his fans against his potential rivals at the time. Michael didn't play that game in his time, even though I hated Alonso so much then. Its really different now.
@@ChristopherBuenviaje I get what your saying but if that were true then Alonso's direct attacks at Lewis would create a more volatile #Team14. I can't imagine a driver being foolish enough to weaponise fans, especially Lewis of all people since he's the most socially conscious BUT he did release Mclaren telemetry on Twitter so idk lol.
@Boniface Lukosi right? That was like a huge deal, drivers never used spciak media to release telemetry. Imagine the outrage if Michael.did that in his hay days. Oh well.
Nico was amazing. Massively underrated. I completely respect his decision to retire and I understand that F1 does have a HUGE toll on you if you want to compete among the best. However, I am a bit sad he doesn't have that drive others have, to not win just once, to go again and again and build a legacy. We could have had some interesting fights.
I cannot wait for Lewis' memo about the two of them that is yet to be explained. Nico is one of the most likeable people(this is coming from a diehard Lewis fan). I thrive for another "Nico" type of driver and personality to lie once more on the grid.
Its sure to explain the role of Paddy Lowe and why he had to resign, The team swap, the 4 suspicious DNFs of a merc PU on only one car, The monaco qualify red flag saga etc.
I've been a fan of Nico since he was in Formula BMW in 2002. When he was in F1, I admired how analytical he was. I was devastated when he announced his retirement, but hearing his reasoning for that decision and seeing what he has gone on to work on after retiring has just increased my admiration of him. I hope we will see Nico and Seb working on something together in the near future, since their interests seem to align quite well.
Nico deserves more recognition for showing us how to race these circuits in the video games! Lmao nothing like getting driving tips from an actual F1 champion
He's the prime example that you can only do so much with magnitudes of effort against someone who has innate talent to begin with. nonetheless, what a great feat by Nico, man punched above his weight class.
Alternatively phrased, he’s a prime example of how far hard work and self-belief can get you in life, even if you lack the generational talent that other people have.
It's a shame he retired early because we could've seen more out of him, considering he signed another contract until the end of 2018, but knowing the title battle in 2016 with Lewis burnt him out so much, and how much he sacrificed to become a world champion, and didn't want to go through that for another 2 years. I understand why he left and respected his decision. There's always more to life than just racing.
People really are ignoring that he was a really good driver. His Williams days showed his skill. He was quick over one lap and his race pace was excellent. Only in the wet he wasn’t the best, something he also knew. Probably in the top 5 list of drivers in his generation.
I saw him live in Vienna just before the ceremony. He gave an interview and seemed very relaxed. I was on the way home when I read the news. I was devastated. :(
dont really like him... but i like one picture circulating on the net.... it is written on it (or something like this) - "I like when people are comparing MSC to HAM.. who is the GOAT?... I beat both in the same machine 😛"
Is that Nico Rosberg? The Monaco Based RU-vidr and Keke Rosberg's son who beat the 7x time FIA Formula 1 World Champion Sir. Lewis Hamilton in equally machinery
@Commudus 3-1in equal machinery. It just shows that Lewis is the standard and despite the circumstances. They cherish the only win as if it's a trophy too. Lol
