The M10M is really something magical. Looking back at shots i took way back in 2020 ever since i had it reminds me of why i even bought this camera in the first place. The image that comes out of it is simply amazing.
I've owned this camera since the day it came out and it is literally attached to me 24/7/365. It is not forgiving on highlights, so you generally need to think of it like transparency film when it comes to shooting, except that you can get so much out of the shadows in post, whereas with transparencies, there is not a lot you can do. It does have really amazing low light performance and an image shot at 25000iso is usable; however, depending on a variety of factors, when shooting in extremely low light, you will find that there can be banding in the image. But it depends and it is rare. I think what makes the camera distinctive is that it's constraints of manual focus, rangefinder with OVF, and black and white only force you to be rather deliberative in your process. For some people that is a drag - for me, it makes me want to use it all of the time in a way I never did with any other camera. It's not that the M10M is a better camera technically or process wise - it's just a different one among many choices, but for me it has been the best; people thrive most when they find the tool that allows their creativity to be most easily and optimally expressed. And that's all we are really looking for - the best tools that allow us to express our own vision of things.
M10 Monochrome has a base iso of 160.vread the exposure from the highlights and then open up two stops. Let the shadows fall where they will. You can recover most of it in post. The higher the iso the more limited the dynamic range. This is true for all digital sensors.
love your "because - I don't care !" approach. Nice images, and I can understand why you're happy with that camera. M10 Monochrome with a 50mm would be my dream combo for a second camera, but unfortunately way out of my league. Enjoy it !
Just an fyi, Chris Chu doesn’t know what he’s talking about, just another RU-vidr that quickly cycles through Leica’s so he can post a “review”. The dynamic range is not garbage, far from it. Expose for the highlights and bring out the shadows in post. Most definitely a niche camera but there’s nothing that comes close to the monochrome images the M10 M puts out. Nice photos btw.
I did notice the shadow detail and how much I could save them after a few shoot. Literally insane how good it is! Agreed, nothing comes close. And thanks for the comment and watching :)
As it is only measuring luminance values, if you blow out a highlight then there is nothing to recover. I've owned the camera for 3 years, and for the first two or three weeks, I had overexposed a number of shots, but eventually I found my groove with it and typically under expose -2/3 to -1 1/3 stops depending on what is happening. But you can push it much further and pulling shadows from 5 stops is quite achievable with great retained detail. It is the most extraordinary invention.
I have a Leica MP 240 since 2017, I waited a long time before buying the thumb "repose" because it is expensive, too expensive. I suggest it to you. It's a lot of comfort in holding the case. Have fun.

I can feel your excitement. I have both the Q2 and the Q2M and find myself going out with the Q2M more often then the Q2. Image tone is spectacular. For my workflow, because Q2M have highlight protection priority, I tends to shoot in that mode and if needed under expose up to 3 stop if I need the important highlight especially the sky. Then in LR, do some basic adjustment to recover the highlight and finally export to DXO Filmpack to use some of my fav B&W film simulation. I may sell the Q2M and go for M11 Mono if it is release in future.
"I don't know much about black and white cameras, tbh." (posts a 9 min review of prestigious one, incl ISO comparison shots without exposure compensation, and is evidently more impressed with the app than any other details or discussing/showing images).
I feel like if you're going to review a camera the phase " I don't really know" shouldn't be in your vocabulary and looking off camera to reference your notes is a bit meh lol. Honestly though, this guy sounds like he has zero idea what he's talking about and probably bought this camera because it looked shiny.
