'No One Holds You Closer (Than The One You Haven't Met)' by The Lemon Twigs from the upcoming album 'Songs For The General Public', released August 21st. Pre-order and pre-save here: thelemontwigs....
This one gives me some Supertramp “Breakfast in America” vibes. Maybe some E.L.O, too? Anyway, it’s still entirely it’s own thing, and I love it. I just also love how they collect influences from all over the place and, from it, create magic like this (a bit Bowie in that way. 👀💖 That’s my last comparison, promise. 😂).
Lyrics: Don’t wanna be there for you When you’re alone And need a lovin’ touch For that would be too much We saw each other for a moment But then it was clear That these eyes, they weren’t mine They failed me all the time I’m gonna leave you alone Despite the light that might’ve shone Take care No one holds you Closer than the one you haven’t met No one compares to The one that you invented in your head I’ve heard the grass gets greener The further you go From the tomb you call your home But you gotta go alone The howlin’ wind talked to me As I rode away With the night so close behind With my dream girl on my mind I’m gonna have her to hold Far from the tortured days of old I swear No one holds you Closer than the one you haven’t met No one compares to The one that you invented in your head I don’t even know what I would say to you If I could see your face I’m gonna leave you alone Despite the light that might’ve shone Take care No one holds you Closer than the one you haven’t met No one compares to The one that you invented in your head No one holds you Closer than the one you haven’t met No one compares to The one that you invented in your head I don’t even know what I would say to you If I could see your face
Amazing track, I think it showcases the grit Brian’s been developing in his voice over the years really well (their live performances are a great example of this as well). Michael’s backing vocals are always doing Brian’s lead tracks justice.
I wasn't thinking that at all, but I get it. There's a certain "Beatlesque, but piano-driven" strain to some of BJ's songs that this song kind of shares.
ANOTHER BANGER! This definitely is one of my favorite tracks of the album, along with "The One" and "Live in Favor of Tomorrow". The entire theme of this album is pretty great and I'm really vibing with it, way more than I did with "Go To School" and I listen to that a lot still. Can't wait for the rest of the album to drop!
I thought these songs were just songs for the general public; songs about relationships in one way or another. Is that the theme or am I missing out on something?
My mom was a kid in the 70s and had the .45 single. Wore it out til it skipped at the “haven’t met” part. She had the lunchbox somewhere, but sold it at a yard sale 10 years ago. (Now we wait for the people who missed the joke)
The Lemon Twigs are a very good group. The two brothers are incredibly talented and know how to create something that they are influenced by very well. It's like I always dreamed of this kind of music, i love revivalism, its an art in itself.
Got a Billy Joël Glass Houses vibe. It's weird how their music seems so familiar and my brain can't help trying to find similarities with the songs I liked
I see it as having expectations of love in your head unrealistically ideal that you turn down possible romantic partners in hopes of finding the perfect person you've conjured up
Nothing on here compares with their first album. They need another song like ‘These Words’ to break through. After two dud albums my guess is that they will each go solo .... and Michael D'Addario will win.
Couldn't disagree more. They're getting better with their songwriting, their recording, their performing. I've been to 5 twigs shows and they get better each time. Go To School has genius songs on it. Lonely, If You Give Enough, Home of a Heart (The Woods), The Lesson are all great songs. How could you call that a dud album? Although I love Do Hollywood and have listened to it at least 30 times, Go To School was a major step up, and I'm sure the third album will be great as well.
@@thebreaksinc I'd say the 2nd album wasn't as STRONG as Do Hollywood, but it was a concept album. This new record seems so promising and what we've been fed so far is tasty tasty tasty mate!
@@breiannalee2475 I guess it depends on what you mean by strong. Personally I love concept albums because they're so much harder to write for, and to do it well is certainly an accomplishment. I think I read an interview with the Twigs where they talked about how it sort of puts you in a box, trying to write for a specific concept, so I can respect the effort they put forth. Do Hollywood has great songs for sure, and it IS strong, but if both albums were hanging off a cliff and I could only save one I'm going for Go To School lol. Third album will certainly be promising.
@@steendeertz1996 its detrimental to the music, I mentioned Jellyfish cause to me it was exactly the same....amazing music/songwriters but they dressed like a nightmare Janis Joplin..blowing bubbles and acting like Wavy Gravy - its dumb and distracts from the music. Just my opinion..
i think this is original enough to not call it a copy? this kind of rock has this style and vibe, if you dont like it you can listen to something else, your argument is hollow
