If Martha married another squib then they are more likely to produce a magical child. However if the reason for the squibdom has a magical cause to it then the magic gene will continue to remain recessive, however it will make sure that it is passed on, until the magical cause has run its course, so that it can then become dominant again. Although the same thing may happen if the reason for the squibdom is from anomalies associated with inbreeding. I think you should make a series of videos about genetics in the magical world.

It's interesting how Bellatrix differs from her sisters and marries for status and wealth rather than love while they marry for love and are happier. True Andromeda is cast out for marrying a Muggle born and Narcissa marries a Death Eater, but they are still happy with their choices while Bellatrix is in a loveless marriage and pines for Lord Voldemort, a man who can't love

As an adult we do see her fixation and dedication with and to blood purity and power. It might have resulted from her upbringing but I think she chose her path

I read somewhere, and I'm sure it was canon material, that Bellatrix married Rodolphus because she was supposed to. Not for wealth or power, but to make the pure-blood marriage that was required of her. They didn't hate each other, they were a good team and good friends but that's all it ever was. She was probably expected to have children to further the blood line but who knows why she didn't. Maybe she had fertility issues or maybe her a Rodolphus never consummated their marriage. Maybe they were just too busy serving Voldemort to get pregnant, then they both got thrown in Azkaban. Who knows.

Just as a side note: The name is pronounced "le-strange" as in "strange", and there is nothing French about it any longer. The name Lestrange has been in Britain since the time of the Norman Conquest (1066). If it were modern French, it would be Létrange. The middle -s- has not been written since the 16th century in France and had not been pronounced for even longer, but the -s- remained in the English name.

@@maryjoyspohrer256 Could have also been an US government citizen official butchering the name and they stuck with it. That's how you get a bunch of different spellings of last names here in the US. People who would take names from immigrants and those who spoke different languages for registration of legal documents would often misspell names; or even someone trying to get away from their family might change it slightly or entirely.

If you listen to the audiobooks read by Jim Dale, he pronounces Lestrange the way that Jay does. It’s very weird to hear after watching the movies so often where they pronounce Lestrange differently. Just like how the t in Voldemort is supposed to be silent because it’s french (and is said that way in the audiobooks), but they added the t on in the movies.

Aurelias is Latin and seems to mean golden, there is a flower named after it, which is bright golden yellow. Dumbledore is an old English name for bumblebee, which is also yellow with black stripes.

This! Plenty of wealthy families in the UK today can still have their lineage (and wealth) traced back to the Norman conquest. Royal families can get into the Saxon period if I remember correctly. I can't imagine the same would not be true in the wizarding world.

CoG is one of my favourite films in the HP universe. It is very convuluted, but the vibe of the film is so cool. I think alot of people forget that it's part 2 in a 5 part series. It's not gonna be a great standalone or have a difinitive beginning, middle and end.

I really like how this theory sounds! But I’m still unsure about the parseltongue heritance thing. If the ability jumps the only other magical child of Isolt Syre because she is a squib, how do we know how it passes on. For all we know it could be in the blood…just activated by the magical ability. So therefore I would say all the magical Lestranges could or should be able to speak parseltongue, but they don’t. I mean yes your theory would explain the lack of the ability, but we need more information of the inheritance of the ability to say for sure.

Going further back to the 12th and 13th Century, you can find a Lestrange beheading, in battle, the Last King of Wales, a Llwellyn...whom you might remember from a Ward in St Mungo's... The circumstances in history, and stories/legends from then, about Llwellyn and Lestrange, hint at wizardry. Llwellyn is in my family line, thus my study. Was very shocked to see Lestrange impacting my family history. Lestrange ended the Royalty of Wales.

This does tie in with the Acadian geneaology very well. During the expulsion of the Acadians by the British many Acadians moved into the woods and lived amongst the Mik'mak. The Acadians were French settlers and there is a list of the first familieis that read awfully similiar to the list of 28. And yeah that timing is pretty much right on.

Theory in a nutshell: Isolt Sayre founded Illvermony, was a heir of Slytherin, had a squib kid, who married another squib, the squid pair estranged themselves from the Wizarding World, as took a last name of Lestrange. there kids were also squibs until Corvus and his brother, Corvus moved to England, specifically France, adopted a Wizarding kid and was like "our magical gene was lost for century, we must never let it happen again. YOU MY CHILD WILL ONLY MARRY A PUREBLOOD" and the Lestranges' couldn't speak parsletoung cuz Isolt's Squib kid couldn't.The brother remained in America and Mary (credence's HORRID adopted mother) was a American Lestrange squib which explains her hatred towards magic and how she knows breaking a wand is breaking a witch/wizard's power.

Wow. I love this, it actually makes a lot of sense. Mary Barebones being a squib tells us so much about her hatred of magical people as a form of jealousy and envy. And even thought I *twitch* every time you say LeStrahnge instead of LeStrange, it really fits with the history. I'd investigate it further, but my Hogwarts (or in my case, Ilvermorny) letter never came. I'll have to subscribe to the at-home correspondence course from Madam McWitchy's School for Old Squibs to get up to speed. 🤔

it’s worth noting the “the estrange” in french is l’etrange. I think they just the took the l’ which means the and estrange and got l’estrange and that they moved to france which caused the name change

I believe Rodolphus and his brother are both described, at least somewhat, alongside Bellatrix and Barty Crouch Jr. in the memory of their collective trial, I think either in book 4 or 5. I can't remember which of the two, but point is, I think there was somewhat of a description of Rodolphus and his brother in that memory scene of their trial.

The one main thing I'm wondering now spawned from one very small part of the video. Mary Lou Barebone was obviously very important in the first movie and she *did* seem to know a lot about witches and wizards. Like how did she know for sure they used wands and to break them to make her banners? Like J said, that is some pretty insider information. And then she's just,,,offed in the first movie, nothing else about her, at least not yet. I wonder if we'll ever even hear more about her. A part of me thinks it would be kind of hard since she'll have been gone for 2+ movies at that point

Well... Lets say there was a tradition of the original lestranges marrying squibs. It's also true that muggle-born witches and wizards are descended from squib's bloodlines, at least on one side. I think that your assertion that after the lestranges left the wisarding world (I mean the squibs) that their children were magical, but they didn't allow those children to learn magic, nor did they allow them to go to a wizarding school. In fact, it's entirely possible that they just never told them. After a few generations of this being repeated, the two brothers at the beginning of the lestrange wizarding world discovered the magical world on their own, realized what their ancestors had done, and went on the offensive. Technically speaking, that would have made them pureblood at the beginning of their recorded family tree, and could explain their pureblood mania... because for generations the magic was suppressed, and they overcompensated.

I love how theory after theory you guys put out, there's always more thought put into them than the actual story. How many theories have you guys had where everyone's like "YES THAT WOULD BE PERFECT" only for the outcome to be boring and trivial. Who even knows if the third movie is coming out. It's slated to be released in 10 months, supposedly filming ended 6-7 months ago. We still have no synopsis, no trailer, no release date. Between the DCEU and Fantastic Beasts, warner bros might be the worst movie studio to have ownership of a beloved franchise. But you guys are killing it anyways

I would love further exploration of the Lestrange family tree and the Ilvermorny founding story, as well as the Second Salemers in FB3. I like the irony of the Lestrange’s secretly having a squib matriarch, somewhere along the line, but it does not make sense in this case. If anyone is a descendant of Isolt Sayre it’s (Native American Muggleborn) Kendra Dumbledore. They only showed the relevant part of the family tree The Archive of Magic Beasts the Film Wizardry of Fantastic Beasts Shows an Ermessende Lestrange born in 1679 and a Euphrailde Lestrange born in 1692. They are both buried in the family mausoleum in Paris. Mary Lou’s ancestor was Bartholomew Barebone, a descendant of the scourers who found out about the existence of Ilvermorny via Dorcas Twelvetrees in the 18th century, a massive breach of the Statute of Secrecy which resulted in Rappaport’s Law.

Nearly a third of this video is just ads and this is not like it's a super Carlin Brothers both guys included video those it seems to be all the time one does one add one does the other AD so it makes sense for there to be too sort of but when you're doing two ads for a video that has one of you in it the video would be 13 minutes without the ads 17 and a half with it that's just too much of our lives taken by each video for your sponsors I need to start fast forwarding on these things this is ridiculous at this point I used to watch videos for even fandoms that I'm not a part of to support you guys but not if like a third of it is going to be just ads cuz then it's still going to get commercials

I haven't looked at the numbers myself, so I only have how you present it here, but you start by saying that we are to look at an event "just before" their tree started 7:14, which you start is the start of ilvermorny, and then you go on to say that it was the founder's squib daughter that produced the bloodline, and then a century pass before Corvus is born. So which one is it, is it "just before" or is it a century before?

There is another problem. Both the Malfoy and the Lestrange family are considered ancient. The Malfoy family founder was born in 1066. Then there is the fact that Wizard life expectancy in Britain reached an average 137¾ years in the mid-1990s. I don’t think wizards would consider a family that started in 1729 ancient with that life expectancy.

There are some inconsistencies in this theory. If Native Americans didn't have last names and they were Native Americans... they wouldn't have taken a new last name. I'm not super educated on Indigenous laws in the USA, but i believe they wouldn't have been able to join 'white' society as Martha's husband was Indigenous. So in order for this theory to work, they would've needed to be Native American and taken a French last name at some point, which wasn't an uncommon occurrence.

Wouldn't the brother of Martha's non-magical husband be the one to start the Lestrange family? That would make sense given that they are a pure-blood family because Martha's entire family-in-law could very well be a pure-blood family for all we know-- they *are* of the Pocumtuc tribe after all, and we are not aware of the blood status of various Indigenous wizarding families. It would also make sense given the idea that Martha's husband is a Squib. Squibs could indeed be born into pure-blood families (and in fact, usually are). Also, then Martha and her husband could represent the ancestors of Kendra Dumbledore, which would then explain how her grandson (Credence) somehow inherited parseltounge because it would then be a trait that showed up generations later in a descendant of Isolt Sayre (Credence). This all fits together to be honest. It also makes sense how Albus, Percival, Kendra, Ariana, and Aberforth Dumbledore are all non-parselmouths, just as Martha Steward was not, while Credence, Aberforth's son, somehow is. 😳
