Very cool box! I honestly don't see it working in a large enterprise environment though. I manage hundreds of KVM receivers + transmitters at my work. each receive/transmitter runs about $1800 and lets not even talk about the brain. That being said, when I came in everyone though the KVM system was unreliable and crappy. Ultimately the problem was that none of the KVM routers were configured properly. For enterprise KVMs, most of the work is done by the router, not the KVM and the router has to be configured in a very specific way to get ideal performance.

Weird, I have a cheap kvm switch from new egg that works great. I only need to switch between two computers and one 1920x1080 monitor though so maybe it's not exactly a good use case.

If this was rated at 200.00 for dua o will jup , cause dont tell me this is price at cost, it cant be... comon... I was an IT in the past i could justify the company paying for it, but i cant justify paying more than 200.00 to have dual monitor and mouse and keyboard to keep my server and other 3 stations i think i will stay with software emulation ...sadly ...

@@180doman Razer is very marketing heavy, but my og Deathadder just broke the scrollwheel and the left-click registers double sometimes, and I bought a Deathadder V2 without thinking it twice. This mouse is solid as fuck, new one is even better.

Ok you said its Displayport 1.2a, so I have to ask. even though its likely to be no. Does DP daisy Chaining work on the thing? Or would you need the 'Dual Monitor' model for any dual monitor use?

It's a passthrough, so it should as long as the monitor supports it (and you don't exceed maximum the cable length)

probably, but you are limited to the throughput of 1 cable. so 2 4k60 screens will be impossible. technically 4x 1080 is possible.

specific keyboard in mind to test? 1000hz seems to work and anti-ghost on the boards I've tested has so far just meant the device shows up as more than one usb device, in which case those have worked as well. If in doubt use a usb3 port those are passthrough and less exotic

theres a 20% discount on all orders over a certain amount so the price comes way down when you add to cart. It's $550 and $330 I promise. Linus made the same mistake, don't feel bad :-P the one cable it is $55 and is 4x DP cables and 4x USB3 cables. :)

Oh, weird. I get all the way to Paypal checkout and the total is $815.99 so maybe the discount on that method is broken. I can only hope that these things catch on in some meaningful way and similar yet cheaper options come on the market some day.

No no, I get it. If I were an independent consultant or a data center employee I could see myself getting one of these. Not like R&D isn't difficult and time consuming. I just wish I could justify it for myself haha. It would make fixing other's computers at home a lot easier, but I don't do it often enough to justify the cost. Also, when you fix your family's computers they usually end up screwing you on the bill anyway. "Oh, I'll get you back at some point." And some pint never comes.

Waiting for USB-C to be more common(servers i'm building all have them but they are all AMD B450/470/550 not actual servers) because i want a USB-C KVM with single cable and phantom power from USB-C with autoswitching if one host stops providing power, would also like to see some KVMs that have a dedicated USB host port (maybe C to save space) that does not switch

Does this KVM switch support gaming keyboards and mice @ 1000hz (both) through it's non-usb hub ports ? I.E can I hook up a gaming keyboard to this and use hot keys to change inputs on the kvm ? The KVM have right now only supports gaming keyboard through it's USB-hub which means I have to manually click the kvm switch to toggle inputs. Not too big of a deal but i'd like to have the best of both worlds.

ASMedia isn’t your fault. They’re brain damaged. I have to manually unplug and replug my yubikey when I use it on my asmedia based USB ports if the machine goes to sleep. Also have had it with my usb flight stick and rudder pedals, but only with the stupid asmedia based controller.

I was just lamenting the cost of a DVI KVM at Microcenter yesterday, it's so strange to me that no one has tried seriously to make a decent kvm, especially when I can buy a cheap home theater receiver that does HDMI swapping no problem, just needs the USB support to make it complete.

Question regarding the USB: I've worked in an Ops Bridge and we used to use PS/2 KVMs which were great (I think they were called Avocent Switchview), switching between the systems was instant. As consoles got replaced over the years we needed to switch to USB KVMs, this introduced an annoyance in that after switching a system it could be up to 20 second delay in getting control over the mouse and keyboard (might not sound much but can be a source of annoyance). Going by the table in this Wikipedia article, how would you classify the Level1Tech KVM? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switch#Types

That looks like a 122-key Unicomp. www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/UB40B5A They are buckling spring keyboards (really LOUD clicky), but the case plastic is quite thin: not quite built like the IBM keyboards of old.

Is each of those ports MST capable, i.e. are you able to drive 4x1440p displays with this if you attach MST hubs?

Yes and no. It does work with some MST monitors, for daisy chaining, but some monitors are buggy AF. E.g. the 2013/2014 Dell daisy chain DP 1.2 monitors are *terrible* and have to be put in dp 1.1 mode because they report to the KVM that an MST display is present, when it isn't. I've had better luck with the 2017 Dell 27" montiors and DP daisy chaining, but the 2015 Dell 27" is pretty buggy too. As there are no DP repeaters or repeater hardware in the switch, signal degredation plays a factor with that many devices, too, which is not easy to solve.

Yes and no. I've discovered the 2013 mac pro DP output is out of spec. You need a DP signal repeater/cleanup device, then it works (about $50 extra per mac involved). With that the 2013 mac pro works fine. Without it, it doesn't.

I hope those are not StarTech, I have a box of defunct and otherwise fallaciously sold StarTech KVMs in the garage, that I keep around just in case, or to remind myself that its probably just cheaper to setup yet another desk, with yet another keyboard mouse and monitor. I wish the RMA process with StarTech was half as good as their feature promises... oddly enough, to tie in with Linus, most of these came from my local NCIX ... which is oddly now defunct.. just like the KVMs, maybe karma.
