I actually went to the UFO museum and Roswell and my favorite part was a newspaper interview with the guy whose original report has kick-started the flying saucer craze of the 50s, and the interview was basically him going, "Honestly I wish I'd never said anything."
I have an uncle who was in the Air Force. My dad asked him jokingly once about Area 51, and my uncle just responded, "We don't call it that." I do have a feeling he didn't mention it was Groom Lake because, for one, this was before people were completely sure where it was, and also that my dad's family is from the Mojave and would know where that is rather easily. Also, my biggest thought behind Area 51 is that there's nothing there. It's so widely known to be the secret government site, backed up by heavy security and secrecy. I've always thought that it could easily be a smokescreen, and that the juicy secrets are at some other base nobody pays any mind, because they just focus on Groom Lake.
@@skeletonbuyingpealts7134for sure. just complex and mysterious enough to fuel the rumors and the mystique of the site, but not enough that people actually know anything of value, just to obscure some real site or sites that actually house the tops secret whatevers.
I definitely think its a smoke screen. Its a world wide famous base where apparently all of Americas most top secret things are kept. There's countless books, shows, videos, comics and references to it in countless more. Yeah, _that's_ where they keep Americas greatest secrets, sure. The place every last enemy has been told they real kept. I bet the majority of the world the people do there is intimidate people who show up mag TV shows and RU-vid videos
I say it either 50/50. We do have advance tech being tested there. In actual bulding. But i believe the more hardcore stuff. Is underground. Or other Area's in 50's number range. The USA loves their bunkers i tell u.
@@jasonbolding3481 thanks for a reasonable position... I hate the "died of ____" numbers being mixed with "died and tested positive for ___'". Way too often people fudge their numbers to push a narrative
I'm guessing the explanation for why gays weren't allowed was cut for time, but I actually know the answer to this! During this period it was feared that, due to society's current attitudes, gay people were more prone to blackmail by Soviet intelligence, since most of them had to keep their sexuality secret on account of intense homophobia. This attitude actually caused a "Lavender Scare" during the fifties and sixties, in the US and Canada. Gay or bi men and women working in the government who had this fact discovered about themselves were fired explicitly because of their orientation, in order to prevent Soviet blackmail. Yes, this did create a catch-22 where the exact situation they didn't want was brought about by their own actions, and no, no one implementing these policies ever realized it. So yeah, no surprise they weren't let onto the top-secret air base, the CIA was worried they'd be blackmailed into leaking intelligence, never mind the fact that threatening expulsion made it easier for them to be blackmailed in order to keep their secret.
I half remember seeing a show that addressed this. Apparently in Canada if you were up for a sensitive job in an embassy or whatever you were hooked up to a machine and watched some porn - the purpose being to see if the candidate preferred straight or gay, hence exposing their sexuality if they lied
Fun Fact, the pilot is my grandmother’s brother and his name was Francis Gary Powers. He did indeed get shot down and survived and his son spreads information about his life to museums and at conferences
My favorite example of Area 51 in fiction is in "Stargate SG1" where the Air Force decides to store captured alien technology and prisoners there, specifically because of the conspiracy theories surrounding the place would give them plausible deniability.
@@Michael-kp4bd They are, but at the same time, too bad? If someone believes something crazy and the facts don't support it at all then I'm all on-board with shooting that idea down as long as it can be hard-disproven.

Honestly, it's not that surprising because aliens in the Doctor Who universe can look like anything, so why not go to Nevada and save a generic dollar-store Area 51 alien? What's really surprising, though, is why he's shocked at all since the in-universe organization "Torchwood" was introduced fairly early on in this Doctor's run as a group that steals alien technology for military gain. So, based on when this came out, this is literally like the Doctor being shocked that humans are stealing alien tech AGAIN just because it's in another part of the world. Heck, even worse, because Torchwood's something made up for the show, it's able to go all-out with the science fiction stuff, which means it puts this dollar-store alien kidnapping to shame with what it's got going on. Yeah, you got a single Grey, that's pretty good... have you seen our gigantic tower that literally rips dimensions apart and houses an infinitely-large object containing tens of millions of the most deadly alien race in the universe??? And don't even get me started on the Zargons....
@@How_To_Drive_a_TARDIS I think you're right there. The model was probably one they already had on hand, so it was use that one or spend money designing a new one.
Dreamland and Infinite Quest are a pair of animated DW serials that where aired in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Dreamland was initially shown on the BBC Red Button service, but was later shown in its entirety on BBC Two. Infinite Quest began as a short segment on “totally doctor who” (a kids show all about Doctor who that would air on CBBC before the actual episode every week) before being shown in its entire 13 episode long form
So the South Park episode about 9/11 trutherism about the government using bogus conspiracies to cover up real conspiracies was actually not that far off from what happens in real life, lol.
Yes and the actual reason is still not revealed. The "big piece" in this video is actually still just great sounding plausible explanations... so ironically this video is helping a cover up. The truth can't be revealed no matter how much you think you would reveal it. You wouldn't and shouldn't. There is no benefit. I can say it is very much not aliens. That's all I want to reveal, can revea, should reveal. :) Mandela Effect is B.S. "What I want to know is, out of all the stories you've told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?" "My dear doctor, they're all true." "Even the lies?" "ESPECIALLY the lies."
This is an awesome video, very interesting and we'll researched. HOWEVER I feel compelled to point out that Philip J. Klass was an abusive, obsessive asshole who harassed multiple people, stalking them, even turning up at their houses unannounced to yell at them when they wouldn't speak to him. People didn't want his hot takes not because he wasn't bankable (he was actually fairly successful) or he wasn't right (he was, most of the time) but because he was so obnoxious and standoffish in person
"why publish one book that tells you the truth, when you can publish dozens that tell you lies?" This comment resonates because it's a lot more prevalent in our society than you think. The fitness fads is one of the most famous ones - there are proven weight-loss methods. The problem is, you can't sell anything with it (fasting), so it's never talked about.
Or self-improvement. "If self-help books worked, there wouldn't be so many of them" "The best way of becoming a millionaire is writing a book on 'how to become a millionaire'"
Fasting is really bad for losing weight. The majority of WeightWatchers customers are return customers because they wouldn’t eat, get skinny, slow their metabolism, gain weight, repeat
I was at the Gallifrey One convention panel where the writer for Dreamland explained about the animation. They’d originally been scheduled for 18 months of animation but then as they were informed (probably due to Tennant leaving) they’d only have six. Six Months. Seven episodes equating 42 minutes of animation with several several different locations with a limited team and tech? in Six Months. Taking THAT into consideration the animation goes from “bleh this sucks” to “holy crap not that bad.”
Its the CIA that coined the phrase conspiracy in the first place and all the conspiracies people believe in were pushed by the government with movies, tv shows and documentarys. So blame the goverment or mainstream media dude thats why its never going away!
@@akinolawilliams161 First of all: No they didn't. Secondly: I assume you meant "Conspiracy theory," And not "Conspiracy," As that word is even older than the former two, not that it matters b/c still, you are wrong. Thirdly: I'm fairly sure the CIA didn't exist in the 19th century.
walrusArmageddon So let me get this straight : The truth is that the CIA are SAYING that aliens created Area 51 to hide the truth ? Or that the truth is that the CIA started the whole belief in aliens, or in aliens’ original cause of Area 51’s construction, to hide the truth of their real plans in that area ?
Joe Roberto Armoured Skeptic has a 3-part series about UFOs that discusses many of the individuals currently involved in ongoing misinformation campaigns. One of them is a former member of Blink 182.
Oh Quinton, you spoil us too much with these interesting and unexpected topics. To be real with you I feel like your channel just keeps getting better and better as time goes on. Keep up the good work!!
Philippe Bruneau This is likely true for similar reasons as the actual one. That said, the real reason you couldn’t be gay was that it made for too volatile and too easily obtained material for kompromat. Even if your commanding officers could give a shit less what you did with your bits during off hours, they certainly didn’t want the other guys to be able to hold getting outed over your head during this *significantly* less tolerant era.
If I were to make a story about area 51 I’d try to find a way to combine both the Anti-Communist Espionage aspects of Area 51, the Alien Pop Culture Conspiracy theories, and the sheer farcical nature of all of it. Maybe having the Army convinced the Soviets are working with space aliens and they’re holding the galactic equivalent to a mail man hostage because of some aside comments on the Soviet Union. Maybe having some psychotic General Ripper character interrogating the Alien. Insisting that the Alien give the Us what ever technology they gave the Soviets and the alien just pleading that doesn’t know what he’s talking about he just said that he like Karl Marx’s hair cut.
What if aliens did show up and we asked them about all the weird UFOs and there like “huh, that’s not us. We have no clue what that is.” Do you think the media would double down and say there’s a different kind of secret alien?
Lets not forget that the US goverment said; "yeah aliens exist, and we have no clue wtf to do about them" and they stated its a every day thing in some places
When you say "There's one reason we will never touch fingers", I thought you were going to say they wouldn't have fingers because they would be extremely different from us.
Lugo They would likely have something akin to fingers, just as they would likely have something akin to eyes; convergent evolution and all that. Some kind of manipulatory appendage or even subappendage (such as a finger) would seem to be a near prerequisite for a species that saw fit to develop machine-level technology.
@@holographicbunny3297 I don't know, this seems like a really human centered vision. Even if we're talking only about human or above intelligent life forms, we have no idea of how different they could be from us. They could use other things than fingers to grab, like some kind of mouth at the end of arms, suckers like octopuses, or things we can't even imagine. Maybe they wouldn't need for a practical grab at all on their planet. Maybe they would be more nest-based lifeformes like ants or bees (which I could totally see evolving to be more intelligent than humans). It's probable they could be marine animals too. Or maybe a kind of bacterial mess that can modify its structure and shapeshift into anything. Maybe they wouldn't have to use for eyes, maybe they'd have a sonar like bats or dolphins, or extremely powerfull smell like dogs. I could also see the most intelligent life form in the universe being a gigantesque plant or fungus expanding on the totally of a planet's surface and creating some sort of giant neural network. And I'm not even talking of different forms of life that might not be DNA-based or even carbon-based. With my Earth-based imagination I can already think of many intelligent forms of life that would look nothing like humans. With life evolving on a totally different planet, we can't even fathom how different it might be from what we know.
For the first minute or so I was only listening to the audio, and that was like "wow sounds freaking awesome. The Doctor goes to area 51? How do I not know this exists? I have the Eccleston/Tennant box set ffs." Then I looked at the screen and I was like "ohh. Right."
The U2 is a weird plane. Apparently one of the things that made it so hard to fly was that the wings were very thin and at high altitude, there was a very narrow range of attitudes the plane could fly at. If you put it outside that envelope the airflow over the wing becomes supersonic and causes the plane to stall.
As a fan of aliens and all that stuff (with healthy levels of scepticism) you did pretty good job telling the story of Area 51, except for one part. Bennewitz was the man behind another alien base (Dulce Base in New Mexico) and the guy behind Area 51 was Bob Lazar, but if you chose to switch them for a better and more comprehensive story, I cannot judge you, because his story is a mess
Kiln Firelink it’s just a distraction to keep people’s mind off of real shit. Maybe back in the day real stuff happened there, but we most likely won’t ever hear about the real “secret” stuff.
I actually did a school report on the history of area 51 in the early 2000s. Was able to do a pretty good job getting things accurate. Talk about the U-2, why groom lake was chosen, an incident where the entire base had to be temporarily evacuated due to fallout from a nuke test going in a direction the meteorologists had not predicted (right into the base), testing of a mig-21 that previously defected to Israel and other foreign aircraft, how that partly led to the idea of the base testing alien craft since technically they are foreign aircraft, Sr-71 and a-12 development, stealth aircraft development, and the base's current activity. I used an automatically scripted tour in Google earth for my visuals (like a slideshow, but moving from location to location in Google earth instead of slide to slide in PowerPoint).
-OverSimplified with the 1960 incident of the U2 plane in Russia Krushchev: "Who the hell is this?!" Eisenhower: "He's a... high altitude weather enthusiast who flew off course" Krushchev: "Okay, that sounds plausible... Waaaaait a minute. Why does he have a gun and a poison needle?!" Eisenhower: "Because.. he's a... very _NAUGHTY_ high altitude weather enthusiast"
Also fun fact: Cassie is voiced by Georgia Moffet (Jenny, the Doctor’s daughter, Peter Davidson’s irl daughter, David Tennant’s wife). Russel, buddy, I think when people said that they really wanted Georgia to come back, this isn’t what they had in mind.
I don't get at all why people started saying this on his vids. Sounds the same as he always has done. Maybe cos I'm not wearing headphones, just playing through my tablet's speakers? It sounds completely fine that way so give that a try
The F-22 fighter jet was 1st build in the 1989 and we didn't get to see it until 2005. it just stayed in Area 51 for 16 years and probably more. only thing you will find there are some cool weapons.
You're right on the money. I made videos being skeptical of shows like Ghost Adventures and Ancient Aliens...and I still havent received my big payout from RU-vid.
I remember watching unsolved mysteries as a kid, they ran a marathon of it when I was stuck home with the flu, and what was crazier was that when I tried to change the channel, I couldn’t because the batteries to the remote died. what can you say life’s a bitch.
My school did a mediocre "Let's relate" campaign this year. It was called "storming into 2020." What is my big problem with this? Well, I'll just say "Three hurricanes "stormed" onto the beaches of Florida"
Klass is pure class. Never thought I'd thought I'd hear that name on a popular, younger guy's (excellent) RU-vid channel. Robert Sheaffer and Tim Printy are, imho, the most relevant still-active UFO skeptics if anyone is interested in learning more.
I remember watching a documentary show as a kid in the 90s about UFO sightings. I remember one of the pictures which was taken by a cop looked just like a B-2 bomber. This would also seem to explain why there were “no radar signatures in the area”.
I really don't know why people keep harping on and on and on about how there are aliens in Area 51. The real story about how the US government basically acted out an episode of Fawlty Towers featuring The Air Force and the CIA instead of John Cleese is infinitely more hilarious.
Damn straight. I've been trying to explain this to people for years. They don't wanna here it. There was even a documentary made by a journalist, who specialises in writing about aircraft for Jane's, all about this theory. A theory he had written about... a lot. Can't remember a title or name of the guy. It would've been in the middle 00's...
I hope these debunk videos do well. They're great! ....One thing I've always wondered about with the folklore of UFOs, is paring up sighting waves with sci-fi or horror media events (movies, TV, etc). And see if there's any kind of correlation. I'd heard Betty and Barney Hill's sighting occurred not long after an episode or TV movie that had big-eyed aliens kidnapping humans.
9:58 The couldn't be gay thing was somewhat justifiable given the potential to blackmail people with it, but even then, that could actually make blackmail easier by banning it.
I'm surprised you never mentioned Bob Lazar...of all the hoaxers throughout UFO history, this guy tells the most compelling and scientifically accurate story. Still bullshit, but you have to admit, he's a great story teller. Great content, uploader. New sub. :)
Beautiful video. Well researched, well presented, and well edited. Kudos on this masterpiece. I hope the views will reflect the exorbitant amounts of effort that you put into this video.
