Read this book for the first time last month and absolutely loved it! This may sound like a crazy thing to say but I really liked the brutality and violence because it felt like the stakes were way higher, and of course I loved all the things you talked about too Matt! Great review, keep up the good work 👍

The Lies of Locke Lamora was one of my first fantasy series which I found from Daniel Greene way back. This one made a true impression on me and to this day one of my favorite books of all time. The 2nd and 3rd are quite a step down but that is only due to a couple major flaws, there is still a lot to love. I really hope the 4th book is a return to form once it comes out.

Awesome book! It’s great in audio, too. I read this about 15 years ago and immediately harassed everyone I knew to read it. They all loved it though some I regretted recommending it to, because they never stopped harassing me about when the next one would be out.

I read this one via ebook and I couldn't put it down. I was going to buddy read it with your discord but it was so good I couldn't stop. If I ever do a re-read maybe I'll do the audio, just to see if I get the same feeling you did (I agree with you that Dungeon Crawler Carl was elevated on audio for example.) I need to pick up the next book in this series -- since I'm so behind, maybe Lynch will finish the 4th book by the time I'm ready for it :) Thanks for recommending this book, and thanks for the videos -- enjoying the content for sure. I loved listening to this audiobook. I haven't read the physical, only did the audio, so I'm not sure if it would have hit as well if I didn't do the audio. I remember a conversation happening between Locke and essentially the doorman on the crime boss' boat/lair that had me laughing out loud. It was like 5 sentences possibly, but just had me cracking up as to how good it was voice-acted.

I love this book. I think I’m the odd man out who also absolutely loves Red Seas Under Red Skies. I was so invested in our main characters and their friendship.

I LOVED Red Seas Under Red Skies. I really enjoyed the new characters introduced in the novel. The badass female pirates were so much fun. And Jean’s love story was amazing.

One of the few truly 10 out of 10 books I've read; to be fair, the next two aren't 'quite' as good, but they are fun regardless. Hope we'll see the series continued at some point.

Loved this book. Loved the sequels too even if a lot of people didn't. Its a real shame book 4 is on hiatus but I know I'll be reading that bad boy day one whenever it does release.

I read Lies a couple of months ago. I liked it, probably 4 stars if I was still rating books. I've been about 15% into Red Seas for over a month. Just can't bring myself to read it. I am liking it but it is an ebook (from my large backlog of ebooks I bought years ago and never read). I vastly prefer physical books. With what you said about the audiobook, I checked my library apps but they only have the ebooks and I don't want to get Audible again. Slippery slope. Lol I guess I'll just make myself read the ebook.

Love LoLL. Less so books 2 &3.I like to reread LoLL as a stand alone every few years but I have given up on 'popular' series on lengthy hiatus because there are so many other authors out there, especially new and indie, who are churning out stellar works that deserve attention (especially looking at you, pirateaba). Also, I am older and have finally chased all those damn kids off my lawn so that I can read in peace.

This was just a fun book to read, just don't analyse the heist too much and just let it happen. This is more true in the later books. And while this series isn't complete, the books are fairly self contained.and the first can easily be a stand alone.

I was really underwhelmed by this one. It wasn't bad; but I had to force myself to finish if I'm being honest. Just boring for me and I didn't care much for the story or the characters; so even when things started getting going I really didn't care all that much. This and Realm of the Elderlings (another one I know you love) are my two biggest disappointments since I started back reading in 2021.

I don’t get why people say they just “read” a book, when they listened to it. Its not the same thing. I know you’ve read it before but you didn’t “just read” the book when you only just got done listening to it, right? I think “readers” are fooling themselves. HOT take.

@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Thats for replying. : ) Scary to think that 90% of responders said listening is reading. When listening to music, do you/they consider themselves to be reading the music? When listening to driving directions on my phone, I’m definitely NOT reading a map. When smelling an apple pie, I’m certainly NOT eating it….I don’t know, I think people just like to justify their listening as reading so they can tell other people that the read more than they really do. Im not knocking listening to books. Everyone can do whatever they what want, just don’t call it something its not.

bought book 1 but I'm not really interested to start it. Heist stories are so boring to me, it's all set up with mediocre pay off. Mistborn is a good example, I dropped it after book 1 because it was so... mediocre.
