Wrestling Lists Presents - The Life and Career of Rowdy Roddy Piper
Remembered as one of the greatest villains in the history of wrestling, and one of the most beloved legends in the industry, Roddy Piper was one of the most unique individuals to step into the ring. He was wild and unhinged, especially with a mic in his hand.
His greatest asset was maybe his ability to draw emotion from fans, either when working as a good guy or a heel. This is a skill that is sorely lacking in today's wrestling product.
Piper's character and style of promo, much of it reflecting true to the man behind the gimmick, would go on to inspire future superstars in the wrestling industry. This video looks at the life and career of Rowdy Roddy Piper.
This mini wrestling documentary looks at Rowdy Roddy Piper in the AWA, his time in Jim Crockett Promotions, his debut in the WWF and his journey to WrestleMania 1, his Piper's Pit segments, his work against Bret Hart with the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Piper's 1996 WWF return and the Hollywood Backlot Brawl with Goldust, his work against Hollywood Hogan and the Starrcade 1996 fiasco, Piper's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame and his return to the company, and much more.

Piper was great ahead of his time on the microphone the sad thing is he never won the World Championship. He was one of those wrestlers was great with or with out the belt but he should of had 1 run as Heavy weight champ it would of been wild. He was so great a great entertainer always had something going on. He did so much for wrestlemania 1 he was ahead of his time Pipers Pit!! He was great. He went through a very difficult life growing up he did great to were he reached in his life, and like he said I had a family and a house which I never had growing up.

In "They Live", the news network 'Cable 54' is broadcasting [spellcasting] a signal (& TV programming) that shapes & controls the minds & perceptions of the human population ... When you learn GEMATRIA (what Eye call the 'Matrix Code'), you wake up to/from the Matrix & learn how it works & who's running the show... You learn that "Jesuit Order" = 54 ... Also, "The Jesuit Order" = 201, a VERY important number to the Jesuits, which is significant when you realize that Roddy Piper died on the 201st day of his age. (Btw, the founder of the 'Illuminati' Adam Weishaupt was a Jesuit)... LEARN GEMATRIA TO LIFT THE VEIL & SEE THRU THE MATRIX. A good place to start would be 'Gematria Effect News'.

Roddy Piper was in a class all by himself. He was unpredictable before, during and after his matches. One of the most unique aspects of his career is that he never had a signature finishing move, until he used the sleeper move in WrestleMania 3. He was so talented on the mic that wrestling gave him his own interview segment called "The Piper's Pit". The only one that can hold a candle to him on the mic was the Macho Man. He not only raised the bar, he blasted that sucker to the moon. R.I.P. Hot Rod

Roddy was a huge influence on me in my teens and early 20's. In the early 90's I was training in L.A. to get into wrestling. I had already developed the Romeo Brawley persona which was somewhere in between Roddy and the Brooklyn Brawler, Steve Lombardi. I was big and fairly quick for my size (6'4 300 lbs.) and I tried to talk trash as well as Roddy. Every now and then I hit that mark. In some off the cuff talking just goofing around with the guys at the gym somebody mentioned that I sounded like Roddy. There was no bigger compliment. It was also that day that Bam Bam had showed up to work out with us and put some pieces of what we'd been learning together in the ring. He made me look like I knew what I was doing. Working with him was an experience I'll never forget. He told me on the side "Keep up the work and you'll work with Roddy some day.. maybe a tag team with the Big Boss Man." Which wasn't something I'd thought about even though we were similar size, build and look like I could be his brother (even today). Shortly before Roddy passed I had finally connected with him on Twitter. There was one insult that I use (mostly in fun) today that never left my mind after Roddy said it in the early 90's. "Did your mama put your swing in front of a wall?" I asked Roddy about this because I couldn't remember who he said it to. I tweeted it out and went to bed. I woke up the next morning to find a reply from Roddy.. "It was George the Animal Steele!" After all the years of trash talk and all the comments he made. He could remember one quote and who he said it to 20 years later. The reason I say all of this is because Roddy fought his own demons his entire life and into death. I want as many people to know that those demons were lying to him. He was respected. He was loved and he made a huge impact on my life and many others. He was a good, honorable, faulty man. I wish I could have worked with him. I'd be honored to call him my friend.

As a Black woman I have to agree with the narrator. I do not believe in any way that Piper was racist or trying to offend Black people. Some people just can't take a joke or separate life from a show.
@loveblackpoem
@loveblackpoem 5 лет назад
As a Black woman, I disagree. His intention was to be offensive, as offensive as possible - that's a big part of wrestling, especially before this PG era. And as a Black wrestler, I wouldn't have wanted to wrestle him at all. We can separate life from TV, but there's a large part of this country that only experiences Black people via media. Therefore, it's very important that images of all marginalized groups are fair, thorough depictions - this includes Black people, women, Asian people, etc. And I have to say, while I enjoyed this documentary, I don't think a white man gets to dictate what is or is not offensive to non-white people.

Piper and Rude was the best match I had ever seen live in LA; the crowd went bizerk when he entered while interrupting Rude's theme music. They started brawling before ever making it to the ring. The match looked better than a real fight. That's because they were really hitting each other with verocity. Will miss both of them!

When I first heard of Roddy, back in the 1970's, I didn't think much of him; however, by the time he started wrestling in the WWF for Vince Jr , you couldn't help but take notice of his greatness. He was destined to be the great foil for professional wrestlers, Face or Heel. God allowed Rod to experience some things in life that mist people can't possibly imagine, but He also gave him the talent to excel at being one of the greatest characters ever to step into the squared circle.

I first discovered Roddy Piper in 81 as color commentary for Georgia championship wrestling,alongside commentator great,Gordon Solie.It is my opinion,that the rowdy one was in his prime,at least verbally.I saw stellar promos,quick wit without equal,charisma,charm,unparalled showmanship/entertainment; everything an impressionable,growing 13 year old like myself needed.

I remember that Match with the Mountie, he had a shock stick, that he used on the opponents to put them down, and when it didnt work, on Hot Rod, who then jumped up and defeated him, he tore off the HotRod Tshirt, to reveal another one underneath that said Shockproof on it. one of the best moments ever.

I grew up watching him here in Portland as a child in the 80s on Portland wrestling. Alway my favorite wrestler and had the honor of speaking with him at a restaurant in Hillsboro, Oregon when I was about 11. Even though he was eating with his family he still took the time to talk to me.... great guy. Miss him.

+Charles Sedor...One thing for certain, wrestling fans are just as fake as the "sport" itself!..When he was alive everybody hated him, and were booing, swearing at, hissing, and Jeering him, now that he's dead everybody misses him!...LOL!

I was always a fan of his . I was never under the impression wrestling was real after I was around 10 years old . So , that's about 45 years . The heels were the entertainment .

@@charlessedor5901 ...To be honest, I don't think anybody loved pro wrestling more than I did!...I would kill for it!...Then the Internet came along where everything comes out in the open, and ruined it for me!...Now I couldn't care less for it!

I’m a proud fellow Canadian. Roddy always was, and always will be, my favourite wrestler. Hands down. I met him a couple of times doing cameos in a couple of movies he was in here in Canada. I’m a paramedic, and was used to play one in the movies he was in. I got to hang out with him at the local premieres. He was so gracious and humble. I’ll cherish those memories forever. I even have some pics with him - including one of him putting me in the sleeper hold. Such a gentle giant. Love him and miss him terribly.

When it comes to in-ring storytelling and promos he was a novelty, truly one of a kind and gifted beyond words. He set a very high bar, that only few had ever reached.

That Stone Cold drama at the end of his life still kind of pisses me off. I kind of wish you touch on that in this documentary. Totally missed mentioning that big, and public, drama situation he went through right before he passed away.
