I met Lemmy after a concert in 2000, he was walking through the crown and I was face to face with him and I extended my hand for a handshake and he looked at my hand for a second, put his arms around me, gave me a big hug and said in my ear, "Handshakes mean nothing!"

I was a Motorhead fan from '78 and met Lemmy many times over the years. He was great. Once I was in a pub before a Motorhead gig, talking to some friends, when they stopped listening and their eyes popped-out of their heads. I turned around and Lemmy was stood there. He held his hand out and said "Alright Dave?". I smiled, shook his hand and said "Lem, good to see you, how's it going?". "Ah, you know. Mustn't grumble" he grumbled, and walked off looking for a gambling machine. I turned back to my friends and they were like "Holy shit, you know Lemmy!". I'd never felt so cool.

i met lemmy in 78. i'd never heard of motorhead but was a fan of hawkwind, especially the silver machine single (which he was the vocalist on). the gig was announced in the local paper and my dad pointed the article out to me... we peddled up to the hamilton club in birkenhead and heard music coming from it. we banged like mad on the side door and eventually it opened. we cheekily exclaimed that we wanna meet lemmy to the guy (roadie) who told us to stay there whilst the band continued soundchecking. about 30 mins later the door opened again, the guy said "yeah they're still here!"..a minute later out popped lemmy and phil taylor. phil taylor was holding a bar tray with 3 bottles of coke-a-cola on it.. he had great amusement saying want some coke kids!! we were all about 13 and didn't get the "joke" for about 3 more years.. haha.. lemmy gave us each a big motorhead skull poster and signed them (i still have mine!) . phil too.. eddie didn't want to know.. we chatted for about 10 minutes and then they went back inside. we were dumbstruck. that was it, i was an immediate fan.. bought the "motorhead" single from skellies and then caught them properly a year later in the liverpool empire on the overkill tour.. faaaaaantastic gig

I love Lemmy. Big fan. But, the reality is if you live your life like this you will end up on welfare or homeless. Lemmy clearly reminds of one of my uncles and a cousin of mine. I think this is what fascinates me about him. They were both a step above being bums and homeless. Whatever, I guess it's cool but always remember Lemmy is/was a rock star. Not a regular person. If his music wasn't accepted he likely would be destitute.

Huge fan of Lemmy...but I can't really say that I much care for Motorhead. It was his years with Hawkwind where his genius was brightest. And, sure, he was very bitter about how Dave Brock literally abandoned him on that infamous North American tour, but Brock did that to everyone who played with Hawkwind. Not that Lemmy was psychotic like Calvert, but the story of how Hawkwind ditched the sword-wielding, lunatic Calvert is both hilarious and very enlightening. And sad, of course. Despite everything, Lemmy was always what we used to call "a good egg." A kind, relatable, funny bloke.

I met and spoke with the legend twice in the late nineties at ozz fest. At that venue they had the merch booths next to the fenced in lot where the tour busses and equipment trucks were parked. What I was checking out was a booth that was raffling off one of blades 68 chargers and they had one of the stunt cars on display. I look up and see Lemmy outside his bus so I hollered his name and waved, to my surprise he walked over to the fence and started a conversation with me. We spoke of the pro baseball teams chances of going to the world series, they were in first place at the time and if I ever went to any of the clubs that he played at back in the 80's that were wild places and now no longer existed, one story of a blonde bartender with amazing oral skills that was the only reason he played at that club, this went on for about 15 minutes till some one called him away.
@scottvincent3062
@scottvincent3062 6 месяцев назад
The second time was a few years later at the next ozzfest, motorhead wasn't originally on the tour but filled in when one of the bands dropped out. Same as the last time checking out a booth with some skull rings, necklaces and ear rings for sale, can't have too much skull jewelry now can we, when I spotted him smoking next to one of the trucks, I yelled out his name and waved and he walked over to the fence and the first thing he said was do you come to every ozzfest, blew my mind he remembered me from a few years previously. Later that day when he played he gave one of the best shows ever, he was playing the second stage and when his time was up nobody left we all just kept yelling more so they came back out and played some more, then some guys on the side of the staged called him over , he spoke to them then walked up to the Mike to tell us the suits aren't happy that they were still playing and they would have to stop, he goes you know what fuck them let's rock and roll and launched into more songs. They literally cut the power after a few more songs to get them to stop. The sad thing is there is no more Lemmy and no more ozzfests, glad I am old enough to have seen the greats live and in there prime the kids today will never understand what they are going to miss.
