The Life in Gated Communities - It’s the new housing trend. Entire private neighbourhoods - sometimes spanning several hundreds of hectares and complete with luxury facilities, private schools and shops - all under extreme security and banned to non-residents.
The Life in Gated Communities (2018)
Director: Gila Nazari
Genre: Documentary
Country: France
Language: English
Also Known As: Gates and Ghettos: Residence of the Future?
Synopsis:
In gated communities like MacDonald Highlands, residents can dine at private restaurants, play a game of tennis or enjoy a round of golf. They have their own personal trainers permanently on-call. But life here isn’t cheap. Just the obligatory gym and club memberships come to over $700 a month. And, in addition to the high maintenance charges, residents are expected to adopt a certain lifestyle and comply with strict regulations. At MacDonald Highlands, among the many rules, it is forbidden for children under 14 to walk around alone. Also banned is the use of skateboards and scooters and making noise after 10pm. Offences like not taking down Christmas lights within the required period or having a less than immaculate garden are all punished with a fine.
It used to be that these gated communities were home only to super-rich Americans but now they’re appearing across the globe and are shaping new residences of the future. Over in Marseille, security-conscious real estate owners have petitioned the City Council to erect barriers and close off entire neighborhoods. The first gated community has opened in Sofia, Bulgaria.
But as more and more people take refuge behind walls, will the remaining public space be turned into a giant ghetto?

A gated community is basically a minimum security federal prison camp with work release priviledges.

I live in a gated community, it doesn't feel like that at all. You either love it or hate it I guess. Its not for everyone. When I lived in a regular neighborhood I was constantly solicited by people selling cookies, or magazines, trying to get petitions signed, or trying sell some sort of service. That is all gone, none of them get past the security gate in my current community, its great.

One thing I learned about life after 26 years alive. Is not the places that are bad… it’s the people. 😳😬😉

Unfortunately, in my daughter’s family gated community, the service entrance allows access to anyone. And, obviously there was someone who obtained a USPS key and robbed the bank of mailboxes for her block.

So what...? You know that wealthy people usually are busy, have better things to do than to bother neighbors...?

Yes, Gates and Ghettos is how it is in all Third World Countries. I lived in two and worked for the U.S. Government. Your standard of living is just like in the U.S., but with servants. The local well-to-do also live in gated communities, surrounded by poverty and ghettos.

That $6 mill house. If you even have the down payment go buy a small house by the beach or mountain and go surf or ski every day, no need to work. To me, that place is like a prison, very unhappy. If they really want it, I wish them well. I don’t think they do though.

Yep. S.A. Homes in S.A. have multiple barriers that one has to cross to gain access.

I live in an HOA and it's safe enough although there are no security guards . The worse part are the neighbors but I keep to myself and don't allow neighbors to intrude.

Sounds kinda stupid to live in gated community and pay extra. Much better to own your private land (and you buy land araund it so no1 can build) and have your own security if rich.

Getting your car stolen and having your house broken into and having to pay extra for insurance is worse than living in a gated community with better community and safety standards. The cost of HOA fees is worth it, the only downside are the extra rules.

Well I don't blame people for wanting security and comfort but how about thinking of others also- like in France, why don't they think of the school children and their parents? Selfishness and self centered Ness plagues all humans for sure!

I don’t blame them society is full of haters if you can purchase a place of paradise away from it all I definitely recommend it. Count your blessings and don’t look back society is getting wicked and evil you can’t walk among even if you wanted to, in a matter of time you will be targeted or envy will be upon you I’ve seen it before people start doing well and go back to help the community or friends or even family and end up demise you have to protect your life first It sounds selfish etc but I’m telling you in most cases you have no choice now or at some point find a place away from it all or it’s going to catch up to you

It seems some of it is clashing with the other side of society I can understand I’m not rich so I can understand I’m from the islands a lot of beach is private seem unfair but which side of the fence your on I’m not knocking society but the world is drawing conclusion and have always between rich and poor the president don’t live down the street and drive in a regular walking down the street and it’s for a good reason it’s not an easy thing to say but the rich can’t live just like that Blessings and respect It’s just two worlds that’s all it is

This is framed so badly....these people simply can see that their society has stopped punishing crime and these men would prefer it if their wives could go out in the garden without the risk of being snuggle snuggled by (?).

I would advise the man to have the lady pay for the house, because in case of divorce she is going to keep it, so it is better if she pays for it

Watch the futur's going to more and more like this with all the jobs being replaced by AI and robots, it might look like Hunger Games with the rich in their protected cities and the rest in poor ghettos

Don’t forget that they are trying to impose 15 minute cities on the poor, those are going to be gated communities in the name of environmental protection.
