In this interview, I spoke to Peter McGuire, a multi-award-winning features and news journalist who primarily works with The Irish Times, Noteworthy.ie (the community-led investigations platform for TheJournal.ie) and commercial clients.
He won the Mary Raftery Journalism Prize for his work on the experiences of sexual abuse survivors for Noteworthy.ie.
Peter attributes his ability to maintain a freelance journalism career to several factors-such as the importance of having good contacts, knowing how to pitch the work and being adaptable to different styles of writing.
While he appreciates the ability to impact policy through investigative journalism, he also has concerns about the diversity of the industry and the range of perspectives it produces.
