Imam Malik madhhab is in North Africa (except Egypt) and West Africa. East Africa, from Egypt down to Sudan Ethiopia Somalia Kenya Tanzania to Mozambique is shafi madhhab.

What the wahabis and other Muslims say about Imam Malik that he prayed with hands at his side because of the torture he was subjected to is totally ridiculous. Firstly, if he was so weak that he could not pick up his hands, how did he manage the rest of the prayer, since in the Maliki madhab standing up from sajda is done by first lifting the knees, then pushing off with the hands. So he couldn't lift his arms in qiyam, but he was able to support the weight of his body when standing from sajda??? Secondly, how could it be that one day, he just started praying with his hands at the sides, without giving any explanation, and also none of his followers asked him why. They just blindly followed his actions without uttering a word?
Praying with the arms unfolded is also a sunnah. People just seek excuses. Ibn Zubair, who learnt his namaz from Abu Bakr, used to pray with his arms unfolded as welk if i'm not wrong.
