I didn't know anything about the MIR until I Played a Roblox space game that allows me to build space stations and the MIR existed. I was surprised to find about this. Got me fascinated.
This brings back a lot of memories. When you were growing up you always heard about the russian space station. I watched the first shuttle dock live on TV. It took a while but was still pretty cool. Then the next awesome space station the ISS. Lets hope the next one they build is even bigger and more impressive. I would add a few modules for space hotels and get the ultra rich up there. They can help fund the future of space just like they did when Flying on airplanes started.
@@unitedterroristofamerica206 What propaganda? You do realise that in attempting of crafting "a new soviet man" the USSR ended up purposefully starving out "incompatible races" under the orders of Stalin? Missing their technological feats is one thing but whitewashing their history is comparable to holocaust denialism.
I know there weren't windows in the airlock doors but it would of been so surreal if you could look into the depressizered Spektr module and see a place once meant for life now hostile to it. Much like Chernobyl.
there’s no rocket engine or enough fuel to put it into a very far off place and it’s much better to make it re enter the atmosphere rather than leaving it off in space
They didn't show the monkey that, during training, got a banana each time he flew the MIR into the ocean. He got a lot of bananas all except the actual flight when MIR hit the ocean.
@@absolutetriad7714 Russia trained a monkey to fly MIR into the ocean. Each time in training when the monkey hit the water, he got a banana. But then during the real thing, he didnt get a banana.
@Wren Shockey yes, but something as big as a space station, like the MIR needs to be directed. There is a bunch of the station that survives re-entry.. Just leaving it up to orbital decay could mean large chunks rain down in densely populated areas.
@larrythielen5743 It's like there's some sort of propulsion technology that could work in space that could slow the vehicle down "But that's impossible, so it was a monkey." what.
