Peanuts are great and easy even though they take a while to mature. The person in the video picked them way to early. If you grow them I suggest once you harvest and cure them would be to roast them and turn it into peanut butter. If you do that you can collect peanut oil to cook other stuff in. The oil will slowly gather at the top of the peanut butter.

Bonsais "grow slower" because human modify them. I mean they actually grow normally. But human always cuts off some parts of plants that want to be bonsai-ed. like.. every week or every month maybe. So that plant looks like grow slower and like a miniature tree human is horrible.
I always wondered how peanuts grew, I knew they were legumes but couldn't figure out how they matured underground. It's a question I've been grappling with for more than 20 years, and NOW I KNOW!!! Cheers
I was trying to explain this concept to my younger sisters a while back. That before the internet, if you had a question, you had a question for a looooong time. ;'D Like, you could go to the library and try and look it up in an encyclopedia, or you could just wonder. Now they have a question for a fraction of a second and they ask Alexa or google it and instantly have the answer. Anyway, I'm totally with ya on not knowing how peanuts grew! And also wondering things for 20 years! :)
I've also grown two peanut plants few years back. They were so beautiful I like it's leaves. I used to see it everyday growing. The happiness of growing plants is ineffable. Ive also grown tomatoes potato onion and kidney beaNs. Plants gives us happiness😇
The squirrels planted a peanut for me in my garden years ago...it's 12 to 15 ft tall now...it grows up thru a rhododendron. Someday maybe I'll dig it up but I like it...it's quite the novelty...I live in the Seattle area where peanut's don't typically grow!
I had never seen peanut flowers in my life, i didn't even know they existed, but they're so pretty! The whole plant looks nice, and the fact that the leaves close when they "go to sleep" it's so cute!

Hah! I didn’t know that Peanuts grow down in the ground like potatoes. Now that’s interesting. I’m a big fan of Peanuts. Whenever we went to the Ballgame here in Cincinnati a bag of peanuts was always first on our list. Many years ago when we had seats that were above the next row down we never considered the folks below us with the peanut shells and skins. So we’re busy working our way through the peanuts and a breeze blew up and when we looked down the poor lady below us had her hair filled with peanut skins. My buddy Bobby was overcome with embarrassment and he climbed down and apologized over and over and he even offered to buy all those folks some drinks and food. So at the end of the game everyone was in high spirits since the Home Team Won. As we were leaving Bobby once again ran into the Lady with the peanut skins in her hair. Would you believe they began to date and within about a year they were Married. That was 1968 and they’re not only still going strong but their kids and grandkids now play Baseball.
I spend part of my year in Cyprus and saw the peanut plants in the fields. I was told the peanuts grew underground but always missed the harvest. It is really nice to see the process. Lovely video 😀
I grew up in the southern US. We had fields upon fields of peanuts all around us. We always knew which crop was in the field by the flower color first. I've never grown any and now live in a climate that is too cold and the growing season too short, but you give me hope that I can grow them in containers at some point. Thanks!
@@Tylerm1013 I'm not a farmer but in my opinion, peanuts are treated as a side products, they are mainly grown for the nitrogen fixation in between crops.
In Florids they plant these in the median between the right and left lane of the highways.the yellow flowers are spectacular and they mow them just like grass, they make a beautiful ground cover. I use them in my flower beds
My parents were obsessed with feeding the squirrels. You could walk through the fields or woods at their house and randomly find stray peanut plants in the oddest of places. Some were dropped by birds that lost the second or third nut when they popped the shell.
Most peanuts are roasted, which probably kills them. I've recently had several sprout and they were clearly planted by birds, so I might be wrong about that. It might also be the local climate isn't warm enough as I moved the planet indoors recently.
@@fl7886 It wouldn't surprise me. We feed the birds too and those seed go everywhere :) If I tried to grow them, I couldn't :) I could kill plastic plants.
i knew it since 25 years ago when my late father grow some and harvest it, boil and give to me when i just a child.. he is a farmer but no one follow his footstep.
I actually saw plenty of these in our neighborhood when I was young and just plucked the flowers for fun. And I just knew today that they were peanuts.
Actually is probably that they weren't. There is another plant that is used as grass that looks like the peanut plant I think is called pinto peanut, but the leaves and flowers are the same but don't produce peanuts

This is great. I need food for my little squirrels. They bury me walnuts and trees grow sometimes😊❤ The oak trees come from them, too. (I think they're trying to soften the shells by burying them) Thanks.
They bury them to hide them from other predators, and rain. They have a natural "GPS" brain, and can go back to each one. They can "remember ", over 1 million locations. In winter when they can't get enough to eat, they dig them up and never run out of food.
It's pretty cool actually, they have flowers above ground which when pollinated basically digs themselves down into the soil where they develop. They're like beans except they burry their fruits. I wanna grow them, but I can't find seeds where I live. It's also a bit too cold.
@@trygveevensen171 when I'll have my garden I want to plant many veggies and legumes😍 where I live isn't super hot but many still grow a lot of stuff. Maybe order them online and bring them inside?
Question. If you pop off the mature ones immediately after removing it from the ground and replace the plant in the soil with the immature ones attached will some of them finish the process? Just an idea because it wouldn't take much effort if it means a few extras.
I was wondering this. Just about removing the more mature pods but not disturb the root stock.. I would try using a blac bag as a membrane with extra soil on top so the roots of the plant are not disturbed as the pods are exhumed

Very interesting video and a lovely looking plant. This winter I've been finding peanut pods in my garden, probably dropped by birds, unfortunately my son is very allergic to them, I hope I can now recognise the plant if they self seed so I can safely remove them. My grandfather he grew peanuts. It is important to "step on" the plant, to make it completely creed. The more of it is on the ground, the higher the production of peanuts.
I remember when i was a kid I usually go with my late grandmother to our land where we had a separate space for peanut plants and when they were ready I picked and that was fun , miss those days on our beautiful land
How do you know when it's time to harvest? And instead of pulling out all the plant, can take outside the root of each flower after some time? By the way, great video 😄 never saw peanut grow 😯
Hi Roberto You can easily find out the time of harvest in peanuts. When the seeds are fully matured, the plant will die (becomes yellow coloured) leaving the seeds underground.
I know the feelings of care for the plant which you planted yourself..you have cared the plants with such love and warmth..I know how happy were you at last when you get fruit of your hardwork.. 💞
